Timothy

Hello,

My wife and I are expecting our first child in [name]March[/name] and wanted to seek the advice and input of all of the wonderful folks on this board - we both really like [name]Timothy[/name] and are having a bit of trouble with a middle name although we both like [name]Joel[/name] that would give our baby the TJ initials and we’re not sure if we’d like this or not so what do you think?

Any suggestions for a middle name to go with [name]Timothy[/name] or input would be so greatly appreciated! Thanks.

[name]How[/name] many syllables is your surname?

[name]Timothy[/name] is a great choice!! My second son is [name]Timothy[/name]. I love the name even more now than I did when he was born!

I think [name]Timothy[/name] [name]Joel[/name] is a very handsome name! It seems [name]Joel[/name] can be pronounced as either one-syllable or two. As indicated by Unicorngal, the middle name is best determined in light of the number of syllables in your last name. [name]Do[/name] you have any family names you would like to use???

[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Joel[/name] – as noted, very handsome!

or

Some one-syllable options:

[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Bruce[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Craig[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Ross[/name]

Some two-syllable options:

[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Aaron[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Adam[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Eric[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Franklin[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Leon[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Marcus[/name]

[name]Edit[/name]: I realized [name]Matthew[/name] does not work - due to the repeated /m/ and /th/ sounds in the names. Adding:

[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Paul[/name]

[name]Hi[/name]! I think that [name]Timothy[/name] is really handsome, too, and I love the flow of [name]Timothy[/name] [name]Joel[/name]. ([name]Even[/name] though J will be his middle initial, that doesn’t mean people will call him TJ. I know of a [name]Thomas[/name] [name]James[/name], and he’s [name]Tom[/name], not TJ.)

[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]George[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]

(Sorry for repeats!)

Good luck!

Wow - thanks for the prompt responses! Our last name is two syllables and ends with “tow” as in tow truck.

With the two-syllable surname ----tow, any of the one-syllable and four-syllable middle names are likely to flow best. You can test how they sound with your specific last name.

[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Paul[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Mark[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]

If you really love a two-syllable name instead, these could be nice:

[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Aaron[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Adam[/name]
Tmothy [name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]David[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]

I still love your tentative choice of [name]Timothy[/name] [name]Joel[/name] (as long as you are okay with the long o sounds in both [name]Joel[/name] and your surname). It may sound fine depending on the emphasis in your last name and the sounds in between. Your son would not be nicknamed T.J. unless you wanted him to be.

If you want input on new ideas or on opinions for narrowing down your choices, let us know! It will be fun to see what you choose.

[name]Timothy[/name] - fantastic choice! We’re almost definitely going with [name]Timothy[/name] for baby boy due in [name]April[/name] (unless he turns out to be a girl!). I live in [name]Scotland[/name] and was ever so pleased to find out that last year there were only 3 babies here given then first name [name]Timothy[/name], and 3 given the first name [name]Tim[/name]. Totally classic name with a great meaning and which wears well in all circumstances in my opinion.

We are also avoiding ‘J’ middle names because of the whole ‘TJ’ potential. I was put off TJ as a nickname when a social worker friend of mine told me a story a couple years back about a young mom who got some hassle at the registry office while attempting to register her son’s official name as simply ‘TJ’, not wishing it to stand for anything. They had to let her do it of course, but seriously!

All the best with your little [name]Timothy[/name]
