To 'G' or not to 'G'...that is the question

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries!
My son’s name is [name_m]Garrison[/name_m], which I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]! We are having a girl and we’re stuck. I’ve always loved siblings that had names beginning with the same letter (not sure why that is so appealing to me but it is). My husband thinks that is silly and it’s cutting down on our options. The ‘G’ girl names that he loves are too common for me ([name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f]) but I’m not sure if a name like “[name_u]Gray[/name_u]” for a girl is too “out there” and isn’t a good fit with [name_m]Garrison[/name_m]. Any suggestions for a girl ‘G’ name that would match [name_m]Garrison[/name_m]? Or should I abandon my love of alliteration and go for a different girl’s name that still matches [name_m]Garrison[/name_m]? Either way, we’d love some suggestions please. My baby girl needs your help!

I like [name_u]Gray[/name_u], but I definitely prefer it for a boy.

You might consider these G names:
[name_f]Gaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]

If you’re having too much trouble finding the perfect G name, I would try to look at other letters. There’s a lot of great names out there!

My favourite ‘G’ names:

[name_f]Gala[/name_f]
[name_f]Gisele[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]

I like options like [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Gianna[/name_f] because the shared “G” is more subtle since it’s a different G sound. I also like [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and adore [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], but anything with an “r” starts feeling noticeably similar to [name_m]Garrison[/name_m].

Another G name is fine, though yes, extremely limiting. I would keep your options open, but still search for a couple G names you love for your short list. I think [name_u]Gray[/name_u] is too masculine and too similar to [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] (could almost be a nickname for [name_m]Garrison[/name_m]).

My favorite G names: [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] ([name_f]Gwen[/name_f]), [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. I think either of these would work well. Good luck!

I agree with pp about [name_u]Gray[/name_u] feeling too similar to [name_m]Garrison[/name_m]. If it’s really important to you, go with the G but as previously stated, an appealing G is hard to find for the girls.

I would tend to prefer the [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] G over the [name_f]Greta[/name_f] G partially because I’m not personally wild for alliteration. I think the pps gave you many viable options for baby girl G, here are some options if you choose to stray from G. (Perhaps you could draw on similar sounds to [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] such as r or s sounds or even the ay sound)

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Acadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_u]Navy[/name_u]

I don’t like [name_u]Gray[/name_u], but I do like:
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]

My favourites are [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] & [name_f]Greta[/name_f].

Your other option is to go with a J name. You still get your alliteration, but there are a lot more options.
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]
[name_u]Julie[/name_u]/a
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_u]Jayden[/name_u]

[name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] would be my pick of the Js, but I do prefer [name_f]Greta[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] actually.

I personally dislike matching initials on siblings. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you plan to have any more kids? What happens if you have a third, fourth, and so on? Would you then feel obliged to carry on the tradition? If you are set a two kids then I dont see a problem, but G is a very limiting letter (if it was say A or E or something then I’d say go for it.)
Its your choice though, obviously. I know you said you dont like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but I think it sounds lovely with [name_m]Garrison[/name_m]. I think [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]/[name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Gina[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], and [name_f]Garnet[/name_f] are quite nice. I actually really like [name_u]Gray[/name_u] on a girl, but I think it sounds a bit like a nickname for [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] and therefore too close to be his sibling.
Best of luck, whatever decision you decide to make!

So many awesome suggestions, thanks everyone! Now I have a new list to go over with the hubby!

Hmm…

I think [name_u]Gray[/name_u]/[name_u]Grey[/name_u] is a nice name but I prefer this for a boy or a middle name for a girl teamed with something like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].

Your G names…
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] ~ A pretty elegant name I do prefer [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] though I think it just has more of a kick
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] ~ A refreshing name outside the middle name slot. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is pretty. Works with [name_m]Garrison[/name_m].

Suggestions…
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Giselle[/name_f]
[name_f]Gia[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Gia[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Gaia[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Giana[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Giana[/name_f]
Gloriana ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & Gloriana
[name_f]Graciela[/name_f] ~ [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] & [name_f]Graciela[/name_f]

: )

I like [name_u]Gray[/name_u], but it’s too matchy imo. [name_f]Gia[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Graciana[/name_f], [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]?

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
