To keep or not to keep?

Thank you for the help on my previous thread. We’ve taken your feedback on board, logically gone through our names and have spilt them into two lists - definites and maybes. It’d be great to get some feedback on which you think would actually be issues and we should veto or what we (mostly I lol) are overthinking on.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] - Small issue, [name_f]IMO[/name_f], but we’re not fans of the potential nicknames, [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] and [name_f]Flo[/name_f]. We do use nicknames so we have briefly thought about them and would probably use [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and [name_u]Ren[/name_u] for these two.

[name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - A bit too old lady chic? Both names do chart here, in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] is very close in popularity to DD1’s name… It is also more popular than DD2’s.

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and Esmée - Pronunication issues? And spelling too for Esmée. We would want to use this spelling however as it’s the feminine form of the masculine [name_m]French[/name_m] name, Esmé. I have also seen that [name_f]Esme[/name_f] has Scottish origins and is pronounced as Ez-Me where as we’d want the Ez-[name_f]May[/name_f] pronunciation. Also, we use Irish middle names so would Esmée Clíodhna be a bit much?

[name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - Both our DDs have word names It wasn’t an intentional theme and I don’t think there’s an overly obvious link between them but I wonder if adding another would be? We do just seem to love word names (we had these, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]. [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], [name_u]Seren[/name_u], [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] on our list too - which we have vetoed for being too much and/or other reasons) but I don’t think these are as obvious in the ‘theme’ as others? I don’t know if that even makes sense lol.

and I’m just going to add our only maybe for a boy, to save making a whole new thread for it, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. We have a daughter who shares a name with a Disney princess so I’m worried people will make that connection between the two? DS and DD2 both have non Disney names, as far as I’m aware lol.

These are the names on our definite lists: [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_m]Zachary[/name_m], for boys. Thanks!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] - I think it would be easy to influence or enforce people using [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and [name_u]Ren[/name_u] for these. They’re very easy to derive from the names so it seems natural to me. It’s not like you’re asking [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] to go by [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] or [name_f]Florence[/name_f] by [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or something that makes people scratch their heads.

[name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - I love old lady chic so I’m a little biased. I don’t find them too crusty. Both are quite sweet, and for [name_f]Edith[/name_f], the nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f] livens it up a lot!

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Esmee[/name_f] - Pretty names, but yeah, I can see there being pronunciation issues or spelling for [name_f]Esmee[/name_f]. It just depends on how much you want to deal with that. But, people have the potential of messing up any name, no matter how simple it seems, so…

[name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - These don’t feel wordy to me, so I think you’re fine. Both are lovely.

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] - The only reason I might worry is if your daughter’s name is from the same movie as [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] then, it would not worry me much. Disney has so many movies that a lot of people are bound to have “used” a “Disney name” if that makes sense. I wouldn’t rule it out for that reason alone.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps some! I love the names you are considering.

No, she’s not [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]… I don’t think we could do those two together haha.

Thank you for your great feedback and help!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] - I love these two names together! [name_f]Bea[/name_f] seems like the most common and natural nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], I wouldn’t worry about [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. [name_f]Flo[/name_f] is a dated nickname so I doubt people would call her that too often, especially if you insisted on calling her [name_u]Ren[/name_u] or [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. Have you considered [name_f]Florrie[/name_f] and [name_f]Flossie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - I wouldn’t call them too old lady chic. If anything, if I met sisters [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] I’d admire the parents for being right on trend and a bit ahead of their time!
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and Esmée - Oh I love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]! Esmée is lovely as well, and I love the ez-may pronunciation, but I think it’d be too much of a bother to spell, especially with that é
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - I don’t think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is too obvious as a word name since it has such a long history of use and is a place name. That said I do prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] with it, though [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]'s adorable.

Since your DD isn’t an [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] then I don’t think using [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] would be a problem. Only big Disney fans might notice and it’s not a bad association. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it was, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is a common name, most would assume it’s a coincidence that it’s another Disney name. Have you considered similar names like [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]/[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]/[name_m]Bastian[/name_m]?

By the way, I love [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]! You have a great taste in girls’ names.

Oh sorry, these aren’t pairings we’ve made… I just grouped them together if they had the same/similar issues. We haven’t got that for yet with the girl’s names as we just have too many lol.

Thank you for your feedback and help!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] - I really love both of these, [name_f]Florence[/name_f] in particular. I think they are also both short enough that people won’t immediately give them nicknames and I think [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is actually the most obvious nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and one that seems popular on nb at least atm. [name_u]Ren[/name_u] is a little less obvious but if I met a [name_f]Florence[/name_f], I wouldn’t call her [name_f]Flo[/name_f] and of the two I’ve met, neither have used it.

[name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - I do really like both, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] in particular, and I think with the nickname potential of [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] neither have to feel too old lady.

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and Esmée - I prefer the [name_f]Esme[/name_f] spelling and I’ve seen it around enough that I think most people would know how it’s pronounced - and for what it’s worth, I think Esmée would get pronounced Ez-me too sometimes. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is a lovely name and my favourite of these two

[name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - I wouldn’t consider either of these ‘word names’ as such, so I wouldn’t worry too much

I don’t really see [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] as a Disney name and I think so long as your daughter’s name isn’t from the same film, it wouldn’t matter

Thanks guys… I’m not sure how we’re going to narrow this list down :-? lol

[name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] & [name_f]Florence[/name_f] are wonderful and I think (what I’m guessing your daughter’s name is [that thing that happens in the sky ;)] these names would all sound great together. I love all the word names you have too! If I ever have a [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] I would call her [name_f]Bea[/name_f] as well (maybe [name_f]Bizzy[/name_f]). [name_f]Esme[/name_f] + [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] definitely have my vote! I’m curious what your other kid’s names are. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] taste!

Some combos:
Florence Winter, Esme Seren, Beatrix Ivy, Emmeline Willow, Phoebe Hazel, Felicity Primrose, Imogen Willow, Margot Hazel

(Also on the boy’s name note: maybe only a Disney-crazed person would make the [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] connection with your daughter. And if they do, that’s their personal problem haha).

Best of luck xx

Awh, thank you! Yes, she is named after “that thing that happens in the sky” lol. Our other children’s names are in your signature too so we obviously share great taste

I’m seriously wondering how we’re going to narrow this down! The only way we’re going to is if we have two boys lol. There’s something so final about not using them as these are definitely our last especially when #4 shocked us and became #4 and #5! The only one we sure we’re going to veto is Esmée… I think most of the word names except [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and maybe [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] too. I hate to give up [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] but I think it’s a bit too out there especially with our children’s names and in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]. We can’t even use some as middle names as we’ve started an Irish theme with them… It started of as honour names with DD1 and DS then we used my favourite Irish name for DD2 (what was going to be DD1’s first or middle name) so we best stick with it now lol.

Thanks for that with the Disney thing lol. I personally wouldn’t have ever thought of it until having a child with a “Disney name”. The amount of times we’ve gotten “like the princess?” is unbelievable - not that she minds being called one, of course lol.

[name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] are my favourites of the maybes and my favourites are [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] in the favourites.
