From the time I was a little girl, I had always dreamed of having a little boy and naming him after my daddy. I never told anyone this, just in case when the time came, I either could not imagine naming a baby boy [name]Forrest[/name] (my sweet daddy’s name) or my husband did not like the idea and I did not want to hurt his feelings.
My question for you is, do you like the name [name]Forrest[/name] for a sweet baby boy? I’m afraid all anybody will think of is [name]Forrest[/name] Gump and that is not what I want my boy to be associated with. Is it strange to name my son [name]Forrest[/name] but call him by his middle name? Should I just keep [name]Forrest[/name] as his middle name? I am so lost as to what is best. I have always wanted to name a baby boy [name]Forrest[/name], but I don’t know if I can do it.
Does anyone have any suggestions for his first/middle name that flow well with [name]Forrest[/name]? I’m lost with this aspect of naming as well. To give you an idea of the type of names I love, I have two different styles. First, I love traditional names with spunky nicknames, like [name]Catherine[/name] nn [name]Cato[/name], [name]Kit[/name]/[name]Kitty[/name], or [name]Cricket[/name] (may be a stretch), [name]Elisabeth[/name] nn [name]Lila[/name], or [name]Lucia[/name] (LOO-sha). Second, I love trendy names that most people don’t approve of like [name]London[/name], [name]Britton[/name], [name]Sloane[/name], and [name]Harper[/name].
I can see a sibling set of [name]Forrest[/name], [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Elisabeth[/name], but I can also see a sibling set of [name]Forrest[/name] and [name]Sloane[/name] (the trendy names will be the hardest to match - nothing TOO trendy but maybe classic/spunky AND ALSO trendy would work?). I say go with it. [name]Forrest[/name] is a great name, and what a lovely namesake for a child to have, your father will be proud and your child will have a someone to look up to and live up to.
I have to say, I love the NNs you listed. “[name]Cricket[/name]” reminds me of those old dolls with the tape player in her back. I was obsessed with mine when I was little.
About the [name]Forrest[/name] Gump connection, I didn’t even think about it until you pointed it out. The first person I thought of was the lead singer of hellogoodbye, [name]Forrest[/name] Kline (I’m 27 by the way, just really into alternative music LOL). If the name is special to you, and it sounds like it is, I would go for it.
Well, I do like the name [name]Forrest[/name], and I [name]LOVE[/name] that you are wanting to carry on a family name and honor your daddy, that is so sweet! But… the firs think the popped din my mind was [name]Forrest[/name] Gump. I think it could be used as a great middle name. I have similar naming taste too… For a boy I like
[name]Carson[/name] [name]Forrest[/name]
[name]Anderson[/name] [name]Forrest[/name]
[name]Jackson[/name] [name]Forrest[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Forrest[/name] ([name]Rhett[/name])This sounds so handsome to me… like a southern lawyer.
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Forrest[/name] ([name]Charlie[/name])
[name]Daniel[/name] [name]Forrest[/name]
[name]Alec[/name] [name]Forrest[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name] ([name]Gabe[/name]) [name]Forrest[/name]
For girls go with a classic first as use the trendy as a fun middle name! like…
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Harper[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Hayden[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]London[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name] [name]Sloane[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Britton[/name]- This is so pretty!
First off, thank you all so much for your helpful comments! The name [name]Forrest[/name] is sounding sweeter and sweeter I am also loving the idea of a more traditional first name and a trendy, fun middle name.
I love:
[name]Anderson[/name] [name]Forrest[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Forrest[/name] nn [name]Rhett[/name] (too T heavy?)
[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Forrest[/name] nn [name]Gabe[/name]
[name]Forrest[/name] [name]Lincoln[/name]
[name]Forrest[/name] [name]Reuben[/name] (my great-grandfather’s name was [name]Rube[/name]!)
Thanks, again, everyone! You all have been so helpful.
[name]Meg[/name]
P.S – Cosmicmama, I love [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Harper[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] [name]London[/name], [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Sloane[/name], and [name]Grace[/name] [name]Britton[/name]!
I also really like [name]Forrest[/name] for you, and agree it would be refreshing on a little guy. Yes, occasionally he may get “run, [name]Forrest[/name], run!” comments, but as another poster pointed out nearly all names have a pop culture reference now. If you love the name you should use it. I’ve always found something so charming about boys named after their grandfathers.
[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Forrest[/name] is a great name if you aren’t sold on [name]Forrest[/name] as the first name. Other ideas for [name]Forrest[/name] as the first name (sorry for repeats):
I think of [name]Forrest[/name] [name]Whittaker[/name] (sp?) when I hear the name. I like the name [name]Forrest[/name] and love that it honors your father. It’ll pair easily with many names to make a nice combo.
My father-in-law’s name on his birth certificate was [name]Forrest[/name] [name]Glenn[/name], but he used the spelling [name]Forest[/name] [name]Glen[/name]. It makes for scenic name.
A different possibility: there are many names out there that refer to forests and trees. Perhaps investigate other names that link to [name]Forrest[/name] yet are unique to your son?
Thank you all so much for the sweet comments about [name]Forrest[/name]. I am really loving the name I have thought about giving my son a name that is either nature inspired or has the meaning forest, and the only name that I found that I love is [name]Silas[/name]. [name]Silas[/name] means forest.
Yep, [name]Forrest[/name] Gump is likely gonna pop into peoples minds. UNLESS, they never heard of or seen the movie. It was a pretty old movie so your babies generation won’t think of it. There’s another movie called “Finding [name]Forrester[/name]” with [name]Sean[/name] [name]Connery[/name]. Really good movie! Maybe less kown than [name]Forrest[/name] Gump. [name]Forrester[/name] maybe?
I didn’t even think of [name]Forrest[/name] Gump until you pointed it out. I’m only in my late teens, so [name]Forrest[/name] Gump was never a very popular movie for my age group. For your babies age group, I doubt it would come up very much. I like the suggestion of [name]Forrester[/name] if [name]Forrest[/name] just isn’t an option in the end. Still, I think a baby [name]Forrest[/name] would be adorable, and like people said, refreshing.
