all of a sudden i am loving [name]Toby[/name]. i saw here on nameberry that it is considered a “unisex” name. I have never thought of [name]Toby[/name] as a girls name, so this worries me - since im not into unisex names on boys. what do you guys think? do you like the name? would you assume he was a boy if you heard the name? it doesnt seem that popular for boys either, (#771 )which i like. but I think of the actor tobey maguire - so maybe THATS why i think its all boy?! Also do you think [name]Toby[/name] can stand on its own as a given name? im not a huge fan of the more formal tobias, and my first son has a “nickname name” as well.
I love [name]Toby[/name]! I always thought it needed a fuller name like [name]Tobias[/name] or [name]Tobin[/name], but lately I’ve been thinking it could stand on its own, especially if your first son has a more nicknamey FN. I prefer [name]Tobin[/name] nn [name]Toby[/name] personally, but I think something like [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Toby[/name] or [name]Max[/name] and [name]Toby[/name] would work really well.
For what it’s worth, [name]Toby[/name] is 100% boy to me, I can’t even imagine it on a girl.
If I heard [name]Toby[/name], I’d think boy. A lot of names are listed as unisex on here, but I’ve never encountered a girl with the name. I’m not that fond of [name]Toby[/name], as I have a hard time picturing it on a boy ([name]Tobey[/name] [name]Maguire[/name] notwithstanding). But I love [name]Tobias[/name]. If not that, what about [name]Tobin[/name]? It would fit in well with a lot of the other “n” ending names that are popular.
I love [name]Toby[/name]! While I knew 2 female [name]Toby[/name]'s, it is all boy for me. It is totally out for me though, because I had a dog named [name]Toby[/name].
I graduated with a male [name]Toby[/name] (full name [name]Tobin[/name]) so it’s all boy for me. I have heard of a girl named [name]October[/name]…nn [name]Tobi[/name]. I say, go for it.
I love [name]Toby[/name]. Makes me think of [name]Toby[/name] [name]Keith[/name]. I can’t imagine it on a girl but then again I think a lot of “unisex” names are way too masculine to be used on females.
[name]Toby[/name] is all boy for me, I’ve never heard it even be considered for a girl. Like a previous poster said, I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the names that are sometimes listed as unisex because the reality is maybe one or two people have used it for a girl and somehow it got classed as unisex when it’s still 99% boy.
