My husband and I have agreed to take a list and meet our daughter before deciding on her name. I am in my 31st week of pregnancy. Right now we have a list of four names that I am really starting to doubt. None of them feels right and I am hoping for fresh ideas, so please share any names that come to mind and feel similar in tone or style.
The current list:
[name]Georgia[/name] - his favorite and our top contender. If I don’t find something better, I feel this will be her name.
[name]Iris[/name] - my favorite originally but I find I am liking it less.
[name]Alice[/name] - most likely to be cut form the list. I love it’s crisp simplicity but dislike the nickname [name]Ali[/name] and fear my in-laws would use it.
[name]Margot[/name] - a name I love but also the name of a friend’s daughter. Newest on the list.
I know we are not interested in variations on these names (no [name]Georgiana[/name] or [name]Allison[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name]). I like classic/established names that are easily recognized but fairly uncommon. I also tend to stay away from frilly names that end in ia or ella, although [name]Georgia[/name] obviously breaks that rule.
Her middle name will be [name]Eleanor[/name] (family namesake) and the last name is 2 syllables and similar to [name]Nelson[/name].
U could spell [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Jorja[/name] instead? Personally it’s not on my faves list but it’s a nice name… [name]Ivy[/name] is nice and [name]Jordyn[/name] is close to [name]Georgia[/name]…what about similar sounding names? [name]Leah[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Rhea[/name], or [name]Greta[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Norah[/name], [name]Gretchen[/name], [name]Laura[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Frances[/name], [name]Portia[/name] or [name]Lydia[/name]. [name]Margot[/name] is my Grandmas name. All the best
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] (and the thought of someone shortening [name]Alice[/name] to [name]Ali[/name] makes me cringe), but [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Nelson[/name] is an amazing and gorgeous name. I would go with that.
But you asked, so here are the names that came to mind when I saw your list:
[name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Katharine[/name]/[name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Sabrina[/name] ([name]Sabrina[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] has a great flow)
[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] (thought of this when I saw [name]Iris[/name] for some reason) (nn [name]Cleo[/name])
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name] (nn [name]Millie[/name])
[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
Thanks for great suggestions. A few suggestions won’t work (already my name, my mom’s, my cat’s etc.) but I will be considering a number of these. I love [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Celeste[/name], and [name]Rose[/name].
I love both [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Alice[/name]. And I think you will both know exactly what she is meant to be the second you see her.
If it helps - my niece is named [name]Alice[/name] and never in her three years has her name been shortened to [name]Ali[/name], or any other nickname :). If anything, it gets “lengthened” by her being called [name]Alice[/name] [name]Jean[/name]! (her middle name)
Goodluck, can’t wait to hear what you finally decide
[name]Virginia[/name], nn [name]Ginny[/name] or no nn
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]June[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
I love the sound of [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]!
Other names I hope suit your style:
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] - although doesn’t sound nice with [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]/[name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Janie[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] are both names that I loved but couldn’t use for my daughter. It looks like you have many excellent suggestions, but I just wanted to weigh in on your dilemma. When I went to the hospital, I had a boy name picked out, but had an extended list of girl names that I was unable to narrow to one ([name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Helen[/name], [name]Louisa[/name]…). Of course, she was a girl, and I spent three days calling her “baby” because I felt like no name felt right. I finally just picked the one that I liked the best, even though it felt really weird calling her that name. But now she is six months today and is 100% my [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Bea[/name], [name]Honey[/name] [name]Bea[/name], [name]Queen[/name] [name]Bea[/name], Bumble [name]Bea[/name], Sweet [name]Bea[/name], Bug, whatever.
So, I guess my point is… You’re going to pick a lovely name for your daughter. [name]Don[/name]'t drive yourself crazy while doing it. (Because I did, and I wish that I had saved myself the stress!)
