It seems like every decade has a short list of a few popular two-syllable girl names that end with n. These names, although maybe too popular, are usually well-liked by all because of their versatility and familiarity. Some, like [name_f]Karen[/name_f] and [name_f]Kristin[/name_f], are too dated to use today. Others, like [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] and [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], are still usable, but I think most of us know too many people in “our generation” with the names to use them. What are the names from the 2010’s that can fit into this category that aren’t too trendy like [name_u]Madison[/name_u]…?
I really don’t get what the issue with ‘dated’ names is. It isn’t a crime to name a child [name_f]Karen[/name_f] or [name_f]Erin[/name_f] or [name_f]Kristen[/name_f] just because once upon a time they were popular. They’re all names people are familiar with and come with obvious pronunciations and spelling, all plus points in my opinion. The way people bandy about the word ‘dated’ here is as if it’s the worst thing you could ever do to a child O_o I can understand wanting to use a name that wasn’t extremely popular but I feel like openly declaring that legitimate names are completely unusable solely for that reason is a bit silly.
I am a [name_f]Karen[/name_f] born in the eighties. I didn’t suffer because it was popular in the fifties. No one squealed in horror or told me I had an ‘old’ name.
To answer your question, the super popular ‘n’ ending name where I live at the moment is [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and I can’t see it fading into obscurity again even if someone people might view it as ‘dated’ in ten years time.
I’m seeing or hearing these names a lot today…
[name_f]Adalyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] (sadly this spelling has surpassed any other)
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]/[name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] etc…
[name_u]Braylin[/name_u]
[name_u]Addison[/name_u]/[name_f]Addisyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaylin[/name_f]/[name_f]Caelin[/name_f] etc…
The thing about “dated” names is that they [name_m]WILL[/name_m] become fashionable again. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] et al were all considered dated names to use in say tge 70’s, now its the thing to do!
So anyone using [name_f]Karen[/name_f] and [name_f]Kristin[/name_f] et al is merely ahead of the curve today, if thats even important.
Todays versions;
[name_u]Seren[/name_u]? [name_u]Hayden[/name_u] [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] [name_u]Brayden[/name_u] and [name_m]Jaydon[/name_m]?
wow, I didn’t mean to offend. I really just couldn’t think of a better word to use. My name is right there with yours though. I’m [name_f]Erica[/name_f] from the nineties, a name popular in the seventies. I should have worded my post differently, but I honestly have no problem naming a baby [name_f]Karen[/name_f] or [name_f]Meghan[/name_f], or whatever it may be. I’m also not having a baby right now, and this was purely hypothetical. [name_u]Truth[/name_u] be told, if I were to have a baby tomorrow she would sooner be a [name_f]Kristin[/name_f] than a [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] anyways. The thought just crossed my mind and I was curious.
You didn’t
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry. The term ‘dated’ is just something that has always bugged me, mostly because instead of using it to mean - as you meant it - ‘a name that experienced a spike in a certain time period’, it’s now become synonymous with ‘bad name, don’t use it’.
I think names that fit this category that are popular now are - [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_u]Mirren[/name_u], [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], (does [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] count). Some that are becoming more popular are [name_u]Tegan[/name_u], [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f], [name_f]Morven[/name_f] (this was popular for my age group but is starting to become more popular probably due to the popularit of [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and [name_u]Mirren[/name_u]), [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f] and maybe [name_u]Seren[/name_u] and [name_f]Yasmin[/name_f].
good point, I agree!
These mostly have 3 syllables and a lot of these are really trendy:
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]/[name_u]Addison[/name_u]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Alison[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]
[name_u]London[/name_u]
[name_u]Reagan[/name_u]/[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]
[name_u]Peyton[/name_u]
[name_u]Jordyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f]/[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]/[name_f]Katelyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]
