We are currently looking for a name a for younger brother to [name]Archer[/name]. We’ve been talking about the name [name]Deacon[/name] but I’m concerned that it is too close to our favorite girl name [name]Afton[/name].
I know [name]Afton[/name] doesn’t get much love on nameberry but we really do love it and plan to have more children after this baby.
Thoughts on [name]Deacon[/name] and [name]Afton[/name]?
I don’t like Deacon, as it is too literal in relation to the [name]Christian[/name] Church. Afton is too masculine for a girls’ name. Suggestions beyond [name]Deacon[/name] are Sawyer or Avery.
I like [name]Deacon[/name]. [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Deacon[/name] would be a great sibset! Also, I agree with dcbklyn, [name]Afton[/name] does sound a little too masculine for a girl’s name.
I don’t think [name]Deacon[/name] and [name]Afton[/name] are too similar. In fact, I think [name]Afton[/name] takes a little bit of inspiration from both [name]Deacon[/name] (the -on ending) and [name]Archer[/name] (A beginning).
[name]Archer[/name] and [name]Deacon[/name] work great as brothers. I actually like that [name]Afton[/name] takes something from both [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Deacon[/name].
I quite like [name]Afton[/name] and even though it and [name]Deacon[/name] rhyme, they don’t share the entire last syllable. [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Afton[/name] also sound quite different, despite the initial A. If you do have two more children, one of each gender, and then try for a fourth [lots of ifs] then choosing that child’s name could be a bit tricky. Nothing starting with A or [name]Deacon[/name] would be left out; nothing ending with -on/an/en or [name]Archer[/name] is the odd one.
I actually like [name]Afton[/name]! I’ve never heard that name before. It’s unique, while not sounding yoo-neek. And I’m totally sympathetic about the not-getting-love-on-Nameberry thing. My name is [name]Abigail[/name]. I love it, but Nameberry has lots of negative feelings towards it. [name]Just[/name] look at the description! But anyhoo, even though [name]Deacon[/name] is not my favorite, you should go with your gut. To me, the names don’t sound similar at all.
