Too close to a junior?

I just found out we are pregnant with our second and I am starting my name list. We didn’t find out the gender for our first but still didn’t have a girl name when we went to the hospital. So I really want to find one this time!

Here is my dilemma: I have loved the name [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] for years. However, I feel it is a little too close to my name ([name_f]Kara[/name_f]) and I don’t want a junior. Am I being silly?

I am definitely up for suggestions too! I like elegant names that aren’t at the top of the popularity lists.

Close, yeah, but not the same. So I say use [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or anything but [name_f]Cara[/name_f]/[name_u]Caro[/name_u]/[name_f]Carrie[/name_f]. That should be enough to avoid the junior thing. Use the name you love.

I don’t think it’s too close at all! I think the similarity is a nice tribute to you as mommy! The spellings are completely different but with similar beginning sounds it’s nice! The only thing may be nn’s… if you plan on using one, you may want to think about something that’s different than your name since a nn for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] could be [name_f]Cara[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Lina[/name_f] or [name_f]Linny[/name_f]…??

Agree with @luneth. Close, but not the same, and not so close it will be confusing. If you do use a nickname, maybe go for [name_f]Callie[/name_f]?

Thanks ladies! I probably wouldn’t use a nn, but if we did, it would be [name_f]Linnie[/name_f] or CiCi.
I feel much better about this! My intuition is that this little one is a girl so I wanted a name this time.

I think there is a subtle nod to your name, but it’s just a connection rather than a namesake.

If you were thinking of [name_f]Keira[/name_f], [name_f]Karla[/name_f] or even [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] that might be weird, but [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is an established classic. It really stands on its own. ‘[name_f]Claire[/name_f]’ is an example of another name that would be close but stand well enough apart from yours.

[name_f]Helena[/name_f] is a beautiful name from your sig, one of my favourite names!

Suggestions:

[name_f]Constance[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]

Definitely not too close. As @anyagreenwich said, [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is such a classic name that the slight similarity of the first two syllables doesn’t really strike you - it’s just [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] choice, btw.
