DH and I are having a baby girl. We have very little overlap in style but have found one name that we both like, isn’t too common and fits with my Scandinavian heritage: [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. The issue is that we are planning to give my last name as her middle name and his as the surname. Mine starts with [name_m]Berg[/name_m] and his ends with -man. So the name would be [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_m]Berg[/name_m] -man. I don’t want my baby’s name to be a joke or think we named her after the actress. I also don’t want to erase my last name from hers but my husband doesn’t really like the idea of giving her a hyphenated last name, -man-[name_m]Berg[/name_m]-.
My understanding is that [name_m]Berg[/name_m] will just be her middle name and she would use [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] (Hoffman/[name_m]Redman[/name_m]/[name_m]Sherman[/name_m] just as examples). We are known by our first and last names so it wouldn’t be a problem at all having [name_m]Berg[/name_m] as her middle name. Definitely use it!
I don’t think it would be a problem even if your surname were simply Bergman as most people have no idea who [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] Bergman was. Anyway, I would stick with your preferred order since the names aren’t really [name_m]Berg[/name_m] and [name_m]Man[/name_m], but Berg___ ___man. The distance between the “problem areas” is great enough.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is lovely!
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is absolutely darling. I don’t think it will be an issue at all since she’ll usually be known as [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] ____man. Or [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] B. ____man.
However if you still don’t feel comfortable enough here are some other Scandinavian gems:
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_u]Dagny[/name_u]
Eiril
[name_f]Elida[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
Frigg
[name_f]Hedda[/name_f]
[name_f]Signe[/name_f]
[name_f]Sigrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Tuva[/name_f]
[name_f]Varda[/name_f]
Good luck!
I’m not sure who [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] Bergman is, but maybe you could toss in another middle name?
I love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and think it’s fine with the last name.
Honestly I’d use it because of [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] Bergman. She’s one of my favourite actresses!
