My husband and I really like the name [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and had decided to use it for our baby girl who is due in a week. However, her last name is going to be [name_m]Little[/name_m]. Neither of us had seen My Fair Lady, so the similarity of the name that we chose to the famous character in that movie/play is totally a coincidence. We’re worried that the cultural reference will be the first thing that everyone thinks of when they hear her name and that it will be assumed that she was named after My Fair Lady.
Is that the first thing that you would think of? Is that necessarily a bad thing? If we love the name anyway, should we just ignore that cultural reference association that other people might make?
I agree with PP, I don’t think most people will notice. If your last name were Doolittle then that would be different, but as it is I think it’ll be fine.
I think it’s totally fine. The only reason I thought of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] Doolittle was because you were asking about My Fair Lady. I wouldn’t have automatically thought of it on my own if I just saw the name “[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_m]Little[/name_m].”
That movie is becoming less and less popular with age, I wouldn’t worry about it! I’ve seen the movie multiple times and I didn’t even remember the main character’s full name. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is lovely
I didn’t think of My Fair Lady, and even after you mentioned it I had to think for a moment. I wouldn’t worry about the it, it’s not a very strong connection: if you love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], go for it!
