Too common vs too unique

My husband and I are having our first baby in [name_u]August[/name_u]. We have been together for several years and have for the last few years planned to call our little girl [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. However [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] has become SO popular lately and we really want something less common.
Our current thought is [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], “[name_u]Lexi[/name_u]” for a nn when she is little. Both are quite uncommon, but we like [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] because she’ll be born in the eighth month.
What are your thoughts on the name? [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]? They are just so different in every way! [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to offer alternate recommendations. Thanks for your thoughts!

Whilst I like the sound of [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. One of the main reasons for this is that for me, the general rule of thumb is to always have a more common name in the middle of you plan on having a rarer first name.

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] sounds both sweet and sophisticated, which I really like.

Good luck on your decision!

I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. I always thought [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] was such a sweet name. You can’t go wrong with it.
I am not a fan of [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]. Not my cup of tea.

[name_u]Lennox[/name_u] sounds more masculine to me, to be honest. I just can’t see it working on a little girl.

I do love the name [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but I understand your concern with popularity, but it is a very sweet, feminine sounding name, and I don’t think you can go wrong with it.

I do love [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but it is one is the most popular names is the USA and is number 1 or 2 in Australia where we now live! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t want her to be one of five in her class.
Maybe we should go back to the drawing board. We’ve also considered [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Kira[/name_f]…

I like [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] but I don’t care for the two names together.

Suggestions: [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] nicknamed [name_f]Tavia[/name_f]

[name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]

[name_f]Lucienne[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Lucky[/name_u], Lucipy, [name_u]Lennie[/name_u], [name_f]Lux[/name_f], etc

[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] nn [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] or [name_f]Tavia[/name_f] would be awesome imo.

i think [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is just fine. It reminds me very much of a Southern name in the US, where girls are frequently given surnames as first names. It has a lot of presence. Sweet baby girls grow up, and I wonder how this generation will feel about their cute names that were previously nicknames. Everyone I know who has a common name hated being one of 5 in their class. Go with what you love.

I’ve met two little girl Lennoxs and two Lenis recently. It is not as uncommon as you may think!

I’d go with [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is so sweet! You could make it less common by coupling it w/another name, like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]-[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], nn [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. I dislike [name_u]Lennox[/name_u], because it’s so obviously a surname–is it in your family? Otherwise, seems cheesy to use it (even though everyone else is doing it). I say go with what you love.

I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] better as it’s more feminine. [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] sounds very masculine to me. I prefer [name_u]Lexie[/name_u] used as the first name - that sounds quirky & sweet to me. [name_u]Lexie[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] runs nicely together & I like it even more than [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], I think.

I’m torn here! [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is a gorgeous combo but [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is just so popular! I love [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] so much though!
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is one of my favourite names and I love the association with her being born in the eigth month, and although I do like [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] too I feel like the combo doesn’t work as both names are very unique. If you want to get to [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] as a nickname you could maybe you [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] or [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], or what about [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], or [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]? Good luck!

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is my choice also. However you could try [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].

I haven’t read all the replies, but has anyone suggested [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]? It’s such a gorgeous name and really underused - [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is too too popular for me, and Quinn always reminds me of ‘quim’, a slang word for female genitalia. Sorry.

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] would be sweet as well.
Yes, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is popular but it isn’t as common here in Australia to be ‘one of 5 in your class’.

I really love [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as well:)

If those names were my only choice, I would use [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] is great for a boy, not a girl. I don’t mind [name_f]Octavia[/name_f].

[name_m]Just[/name_m] had an idea:

[name_f]Alexia[/name_f] [name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]
[name_u]Lexie[/name_u] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_m]Lexin[/name_m] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]August[/name_u]

I love [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]! Such a strong, beautiful name for a girl to have.

I’d use [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], or [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] and [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] seem to be popping up everywhere–it’s not as unusual as you think. And [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] is just so off-putting to me. It sounds like it’s trying to hard, then there’s [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]…sorry. It’s just so “meh” next to [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f].

I think putting [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] in the middle is a nice compromise. You still get to use it, but she won’t be one of 5 in her class with a slightly less common first name.

In general, if you ask people to say whether they like a top 10 name or one that is less common, more people will vote for the popular name - even on a forum like this. So, the question is, what factors are most important to you? If popularity is a big strike against a name, I wouldn’t go for [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] is a fine name and it fits right in with many of the trends today. It’s a name that’s used for both girls and boys, and young people seem to be much more comfortable with that idea than many of us older folks. Both names are quite nice, as are many of the suggestions from other posters. Good luck with your decision!

[name_u]Lennox[/name_u] is my absolute favorite name for a girl so [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] easily gets my vote. While there is nothing wrong with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], i personally do not like any common name. Go with [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]!
