I am currently loving “dated” names that were common in the 40s/ 50s; such as [name_f]Sharon[/name_f], [name_f]Francine[/name_f], [name_f]Trudy[/name_f] and [name_f]Mildred[/name_f]. What are your opinions on “dated” names? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think these names are ready for revival?
I’ve been told that they wouldn’t fit in with the [name_u]Riley[/name_u]'s, [name_f]Ava[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]'s in their class.
What do you think of the combos:
[name_f]Sharon[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Francine[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f] [name_f]Amaya[/name_f]
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Viola[/name_f]
I love them too, theyre really cute, especially on little girls. However, I don’t think they are ready for revival in the sense that they will be at the top of the lists but i do think that they are usable
I really like [name_f]Francine[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Viola[/name_f] from your list
Agree with the pp that these names aren’t ready for revival yet, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t useable! The only one I would see as dated would be [name_f]Mildred[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Francine[/name_f] will be the first to come back, the nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] feels similar to calling [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
[name_f]Francine[/name_f] seems very wearable considering it fits in with some of the vintage names that people are choosing. The others feel too dated to me to wear well right now, but none are unusable. I love the idea of nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] for [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] (in fact my great grandma was a [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f]!), but the dred part of the name seems unpleasant as it reminds me of “dread.”
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f] is my favorite of the bunch. I know a few [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] in their 30/40’s too, so I feel like it’s still kind of in use. [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] is older and on the cusp of cool again, though, like a pp said, the “dred” is a bit heavy.
[name_f]Francine[/name_f] and [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] seem usable to me!
And I’ll admit that while I don’t think it’s ready for a revival, I really like [name_f]Sharon[/name_f]!
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f] could work as a nickname to something fresher than [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] maybe
I like [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Viola[/name_f] and [name_f]Trudy[/name_f] from your list! I’d like a different middle name for [name_f]Trudy[/name_f] like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or [name_f]Louise[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Francine[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] - very similar to my [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] so that’s probably why! [name_f]Trudy[/name_f] [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] is darling. My oma’s name was [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] but went by [name_f]Trudy[/name_f] 99% of the time, I could def. see [name_f]Trudy[/name_f] on a young girl.
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] is also a GP of mine since I love [name_f]Millie[/name_f] so much. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see I’m not alone!
Honestly, I think they’re all pretty usable. Sure, they’ll be different, but no more so than the kids with foreign names.
I don’t mind dated names but that is really dependent on the name itself. I tend to prefer classic names that have been popular forever rather than a name that a certain generation fell in love with. I don’t think there is anything wrong with them but I do have that feeling of, “there are so many beautiful underused names, why would anyone name their little girl [name_f]Sharon[/name_f]?!” I know that’s judgmental and harsh and blah blah blah, but I would [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to meet an [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] or [name_f]Viola[/name_f] rather than a [name_f]Sharon[/name_f], [name_f]Trudy[/name_f], or [name_f]Mildred[/name_f].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think these names are ready for revival?
I like [name_f]Francine[/name_f], though my kids watch a lot of [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] so that name is sort of tied to that character for me. I adore the nn’s [name_u]Frannie[/name_u], [name_f]Francie[/name_f], and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] though! The others don’t feel fresh enough to use yet, though [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] is still in the top 1000.
I’ve been told that they wouldn’t fit in with the [name_u]Riley[/name_u]'s, [name_f]Ava[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]'s in their class.
Any name will fit in just fine with every other name in a classroom. Most people WANT their kid to not be one of many in their class!
[name_f]Sharon[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]: [name_f]Mae[/name_f] makes [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] waaaay too dated. [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f] maybe? Have you considered [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]?
[name_f]Francine[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u]!
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f] [name_f]Amaya[/name_f]: Not a fan.
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Viola[/name_f]: [name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] would work well.
The only one I would consider too dated is [name_f]Sharon[/name_f], just because it was extremely popular so I know quite a few older women with that name.
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] is my favorite of your list. I think the nickname [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is precious. The only one I wouldn’t use is [name_f]Sharon[/name_f]. For whatever reason, that one really does seem too dated to me.
I like [name_f]Francine[/name_f], and I can see [name_f]Trudy[/name_f] working, along the lines of [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] or [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] or [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]. As an aside, I know a little 2-year-old [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] and it’s adorable on her!
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] and [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] aren’t my cup of tea at all, though [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] would be an extreme take on the retro/vintage trend happening now. [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] is not the right era to be cool again yet, but it may well have its day again in a few decades’ time!
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f] [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] is very cute…[name_f]Sharon[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is very nice also.
Like [name_f]Millicent[/name_f]/[name_f]Milly[/name_f] much more than [name_f]Mildred[/name_f]. I’m not too fond of [name_f]Viola[/name_f] either…would much prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
