Too famous?

Are there names you feel aren’t useable because they’ve been made famous by a celebrity or a movie/tv show? [name_m]Even[/name_m] though they are great names, I think these names are not useable:

[name_f]Cher[/name_f]
[name_f]Beyonce[/name_f]
[name_f]Sia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u]

[name_f]Shakira[/name_f]
[name_f]Madonna[/name_f]
[name_f]Buffy[/name_f]

I wouldn’t say most of these are unusable but I do think people will make the connection.
Also, I know a little girl named [name_f]Sia[/name_f] and and I think it’s a super cute name.

[name_f]Miley[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_m]Thor[/name_m]
[name_f]Oprah[/name_f]
[name_m]Elvis[/name_m]
[name_m]Tiger[/name_m]
[name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Barbie[/name_f]
[name_m]Casper[/name_m]
[name_f]Leia[/name_f]

On the other hand I think [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is going to see a rise in 2020 due to a certain famous person

[name_f]Sia[/name_f] is the one celebrity I would 10/10 name a child after! [name_u]Love[/name_u] her and the name. I fully support more babies being named [name_f]Sia[/name_f].

In addition to the names others have given, I’d suggest:

[name_f]Ivanka[/name_f]
[name_f]Melania[/name_f]
[name_f]Khloe[/name_f] - Though [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is fine
[name_f]Kourtney[/name_f] - Though [name_u]Courtney[/name_u] is fine
[name_f]Alanis[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlize[/name_f]

[name_m]Donald[/name_m]
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]
[name_m]Kirk[/name_m] - We all know our first association is “Captian”!
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_m]Cullen[/name_m]
[name_m]Idris[/name_m]

None of these are necessarily bad names nor necessarily bad associations, depending on your perspective, but the associations to one or two particular figures are strong enough to make the names unusable to me.

Top one for me is [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. I love that name but Frozen is just way too popular.
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Katniss[/name_f]
[name_f]Nala[/name_f]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] (I feel like it’s still usable for some people, but [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_f]Star[/name_f] has totally ruined it for me)
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_m]Sigmund[/name_m] (I wouldn’t really want people to think my kid is named after [name_m]Sigmund[/name_m] Freud)
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] (I named my cat [name_m]Phinneas[/name_m] and everyone is constantly asking me if I have another one named Ferb so I can’t imagine naming my child that)

People often say this about my first daughter’s name, [name_f]Juno[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and know a little one! I also looooooove [name_m]Idris[/name_m].

[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]? A bit “out there” but it’s got such a fierce, beautiful sound and meaning, if only it weren’t for the character…

[name_u]Pepper[/name_u] (Peppa Pig)
Estée (my [name_m]SIL[/name_m]'s name, but mostly associated with Lauder)
[name_f]Ismay[/name_f]
[name_f]Winslet[/name_f]
[name_m]Dougray[/name_m]
[name_m]Inigo[/name_m]

(I’d still use some of these)

I’m not sure I would rule out a name based on whether it was famous if I loved the sound of it. Of course I’m not able to have kids, so if I was I might feel differently, but for me the sound is the most important part.

[name_f]Angelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Barbra[/name_f]
Beyoncé
[name_f]Cinderella[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f]
[name_u]Hilary[/name_u]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Madonna[/name_f]
[name_f]Meryl[/name_f]
[name_f]Miley[/name_f]
[name_f]Oprah[/name_f]
[name_u]Paris[/name_u]
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]
