I usually shy away from flower and colour names, because our last name is [name]Wood[/name]. They run the risk of sounding like hippy or porn star names.
But I keep coming back to [name]Violet[/name]. There’s something so pretty and different about it, I almost feel like I could get away with it.
So honest opinions… [name]Violet[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. Too hippy? Porn star? Or could it work?
I think it sounds interesting in a good way! [name]Violet[/name] is pretty. I think even with [name]Wood[/name] it’s fine. I mean people will realize the connection but I don’t think it sounds weird.
I think it’s pretty, but honestly at the same time, I picture a purple piece of wood. Not a hippy image or a pornstar image, just a mental image of a piece of wood, painted purple. I guess any colour name would have the same effect - [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Rose[/name] etc…However, I don’t necessarily think that this is a problem - it’s not a hugely teasable issue or anything.
I do think the name is a little noun heavy, and as pp’s have said, I get the image of a purple piece of wood straight away, followed quickly by violets growing in the woods.
Also, you mentioned you like [name]Violet[/name] because its different, but I’m pretty sure its in the top 100 names, or quite close to that, so it might be more common than you think.
well, I think with [name]Wood[/name] as a last name, any first name will sound like an unfinished sentence (i.e., [name]Violet[/name] Would…) at first. [name]Just[/name] pick a name you think is beautiful and don’t worry about the rest. Personally, [name]Violet[/name] is on my short list right now. It’s a great name.
I find the combination to be more nature-like than hippy. It sounds like a violet wildflower growing in some forest. So, I like it. However, I would suggest a non-noun middle. But, there’s nothing negative about it.
I love the name [name]Violet[/name]! I think you can get away with [name]Violet[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. It sounds interesting, like a name you’ll remember, but in a positive way.
I’m not too worried about the names popularity… at the end of the day that’s something you can’t control. When I say it’s “different” I mean in terms of the way it sounds. It’s such a unique-sounding word, and that really appeals to me
