I have posted quite a few topics on nametalk, and I’ve semi narrowed down the list of names, but added new ones too it so I guess isn’t really that productive.
My husband and I love original names, names that we know we wont hear in the store or see on the top 100 or even near it. We also want it to be beautiful, and not overly “trendy”. Im open to suggestions, but if you do want to suggest names, please refrain from listing names that are found on alot of other people’s posts.
Here are some of the name we are thinking of…let me know which ones you like and which ones are OUT!
Thanks!
[name]Nahla[/name] (I have another daughter with a “celeb name” so there is conflict with this one along with a few other names)
[name]Olive[/name] (celeb name)
[name]Lola[/name] (celeb name)
[name]Nefertiti[/name]
Nahtari
[name]Padma[/name]
Zivah
[name]Zahava[/name]
Xema
[name]Nuala[/name]
Nahja
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Alabama[/name] (celeb name)
[name]Teddi[/name]
If you like one of the “celeb names” I have picked out, can you recommend a mn to help make it our own?
[name]Nahla[/name] (I have another daughter with a “celeb name” so there is conflict with this one along with a few other names)-- one word [name]Lion[/name] [name]King[/name]. That was my favorite movie as a child. I just cant picture this one a child.
[name]Olive[/name] (celeb name)-- While this is cute. I have a hard time picturing as a name. It is a food.
[name]Lola[/name] (celeb name)- This is my favorite off your list. It is a lovely choice and something a little girl can really grow up with.
[name]Nefertiti[/name]- I dont like it. It is too out there for my taste.
Nahtari- Sounds like a comic strip.
[name]Padma[/name]- I dont love it but it could work.
Zivah- Is it [name]Zee[/name]-vuh or Zye-vah? I like it either way.
[name]Zahava[/name]- I prefer [name]Sahara[/name].
Xema- Reminds me of ecsema.
[name]Nuala[/name]–What about [name]Nola[/name]?
Nahja–Sounds like nausea kinda.
[name]Elliot[/name]–Too masculine and not that unique. [name]Ive[/name] met a few girls with this name.
[name]Alabama[/name] (celeb name)–Cute and spunky. I dont love it but its nice.
[name]Teddi[/name]–Too nick namey. What about [name]Theadora[/name]?
What is your others daughters name? It will easier to pick if I know what to pair it with. I like [name]Lola[/name] the best from your list.
[name]Lola[/name]… can’t think of a middle name, but something family related would help make it your own. I don’t think celebrity at all when I hear it.
[name]Nahla[/name]: while it is a celeb name it just has such a soft sound I love it!
[name]Olive[/name]: I’ve never really thought of this one as a celeb name, it’s cute, and quirky love it!
[name]Lola[/name]: I love this name, but personally I think it works best as a nn
[name]Nefertiti[/name]: too tied to the goddess for me
Nahtari: never heard this before, but it has a very pretty sound
[name]Padma[/name]: love the meaning behind this name, but not in love with it’s sound
Zivah: it’s ok, very straight forward in sound and spelling
[name]Zahava[/name]: Not my favorite
Xema: [name]How[/name] are you pronouncing these?
[name]Nuala[/name]: ?
Nahja: ?
[name]Elliot[/name]: cute
[name]Alabama[/name]: ok
[name]Teddi[/name]: like it best as a nn, but ok
[name]Nahla[/name] - too inextricably linked with [name]Halle[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] (celeb name) - love - I didn’t even realize it was a celebrity name. Any of the nicknames that are used for [name]Olivia[/name] would work, like [name]Liv[/name]
[name]Lola[/name] (celeb name) - I don’t think there are any good nn for this because I think of it as a nickname itself. Maybe you could name her the full name ([name]Dolores[/name] for example) and then go by [name]Lola[/name] as a nn? What about [name]Tallulah[/name] with nickname [name]Lula[/name] or [name]Lulu[/name]?
[name]Nefertiti[/name] - no, makes me think of the Egyptian queen
Nahtari - don’t like, sounds kind of from another world like an alien
[name]Padma[/name] - I really like this
Zivah - don’t like sounds like an aftershave or a drink
[name]Zahava[/name] - see comment on Nahtari
Xema - see comment on Nahtari
[name]Nuala[/name]- see comment on Nahtari
Nahja - see comment on Nahtari
[name]Elliot[/name] - LOOOOOVE this - I’m thinking about this for my own daughter as well
[name]Alabama[/name] (celeb name) - not a fan
[name]Teddi[/name] - don’t like . . . this is what [name]John[/name] Mellencamp’s oldest daughter goes by, too much of a nick name. If you really like this, maybe use full name [name]Theodora[/name]?
Since I posted this, my husband and I have talked and he has four names that he will consider, since he is so sick of looking for names. I put a middle name with each one, which doesn’t mean it has to stick, its just an idea. Let me know what you think, these are the top contenders…but Im sure it will change again
Oh btw our last name rhymes with cook.
My favorite name is Liviana, it definitely has a celebrity chic feel. [name]Even[/name] just [name]Liv[/name] on it’s own makes a great name.
The names that stand out to me on your list, are [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name]. I think [name]Olive[/name] has a fresh feel to it. And it too like Liviana has the potential for [name]Liv[/name] as a nickname. [name]Elliot[/name] is a great name, but if someone were to tell me they knew someone named [name]Elliot[/name] and I didn’t know that person they were talking about I’d automatically assume that it was a male. So there is that to consider.
It’s interesting that some of these are from commonly used linguistic origins ([name]Zahava[/name] - Hebrew, [name]Nuala[/name] - Irish) but feel almost as unusual as the ones I can’t place (Nahtari, Zivah, Nahja, Xema).
Because [name]Padma[/name] is at least familiar, I expect it’s quite common in [name]India[/name]. Not that that’s enough to make it not unusual elsewhere.
