Too many E names?

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I finally settled on a name for our little guy - [name_m]Egan[/name_m]. We haven’t announced anything yet, but our family does know we’ve picked a name. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s cousin is due a month before us and they’ve announced their name - [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]. Now [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are worried that these are too similar, especially for cousins born within a month or so of each other. [name_f]Do[/name_f] we stick with our name? Should we go back to the drawing board?

It really depends on how often the boys will see each other. If you live really close and you’ll probably carpool to school or have playdates weekly, I’d pick a different name - but I definitely wouldn’t go down without a fight. It’s true that you didn’t announce it so they had no way of knowing that the name they had picked out was so close to yours, but I’d still make it known. If they live across the country and they might see each other once or twice a year, then I wouldn’t care too much. It all depends on how they feel about it too! Personally, I think [name_m]Egan[/name_m] is a better name than [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]. [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] is insanely popular among children these days, and I have special meaning attached with [name_m]Egan[/name_m]. But hey, my opinion isn’t really relevant here, so I’ll shut up!

Totally stick with it if you love it.

I mean, they aren’t siblings. The MOST that could happen is they grow up best buds and are associated with each other, but I’m guessing that probably isn’t even the case (I mean going to the same school, same class, etc). Like I said, not sibling names so I wouldn’t worry a bit!

I’m gonna agree with @heytherepigeon I would go back to the drawing board only if they lived nearby and would see each other relatively often. Only thing I would do differently is that I wouldn’t think twice about changing the name as I wouldn’t want to have 2 cousins (provided they live nearby) so close in age with such matchy names.
