I am usually not a huge fan of sibling names that start with the same letter, but the name [name]Mila[/name] has recently caught my attention. My son is named [name]Max[/name] and although I find myself adoring [name]Mila[/name], the “cutesie” factor is holding me back big time. Thoughts on names both starting with “M” or on the pairing of [name]Max[/name] and [name]Mila[/name]…
Why don’t you go with your first instinct and choose another name with a different initial? Your first choice of [name]Calla[/name] sounds so much better and is more unique. Let us know what you think of [name]Dinah[/name] or [name]Thea[/name]. If you have another child, you don’t want to be forced to go with another “M” based name and the child maybe left out if you don’t.
I am like you - I don’t like matchy sibling names! But I have to say that [name]Max[/name] and [name]Mila[/name] are amazing together! Yes they are matchy and cutesy but for once, I love it!!! My second choice from your list would be [name]Lila[/name], and I don’t care for [name]Calla[/name] or [name]Scarlett[/name] with [name]Max[/name].
I actually think [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Max[/name] sound nice together (they both seem like strong, simple, consonant-heavy names of equal weight). [name]Mila[/name] is pretty but sounds weak next to [name]Max[/name], I think.
If you don’t want the kids to have the same initials, I’d go with that instinct. At least in early childhood, a sibling stealing ‘my’ letter (as I’m sure [name]Max[/name] percieves his ‘M’) can be upsetting; also, you save having to buy 2 sets of letter stickers to have enough M’s for everyone to spell their names; and, your monogrammed backpacks aren’t the same initials.
I dont think it is a big deal. [name]Do[/name] you plan to have any more children? Two Ms is fine and most people will assume it was just a coincidence, but three would be over doing it. I also love the name [name]Calla[/name] though. It is so underused and very pretty (like a white calla lily). [name]Max[/name] and [name]Calla[/name] sound great together as well.
If you’re not going to have any more children, then [name]Max[/name] and [name]Mila[/name] would be fine as siblings. They both have a certain European charm to them and although they share a first initial, they have different sounds. If you’re thinking of expanding your family in the future, then go for [name]Lila[/name] (my first choice) or [name]Calla[/name]. I’m not a fan of [name]Scarlett[/name] and the name looks strange next to [name]Max[/name]. All the best!
I don’t think it’s too much of an issue. A couple of my siblings have names starting with the same letter (though we do usually call them by nicknames). When I was little I felt left out because my name started with a different letter, but I got over it. Other than that it’s never been an issue. [name]Mila[/name] and [name]Max[/name] are adorable together (and not too matchy, in my opinion). While I do like [name]Calla[/name] and [name]Lila[/name] too (you have a lovely taste in names!), I think [name]Mila[/name] goes with [name]Max[/name] the best. [name]Lila[/name] would probably be second for me as far as sibling names go.
Good luck!
My personal opinion is that I don’t like sibling names to start with the first letter or match in any way. I love love love [name]Calla[/name] and think it’s sounds fantastic with [name]Max[/name].
Thanks for the great feedback! I am still torn. We are open to having one more after this baby, so I am reluctant to use [name]Mila[/name] and be locked into an “M” theme. I can almost tolerate it with two because I love the name so much, but a third is just too “matchy” for my taste. As a few of you pointed out, maybe it’s best to go with my initial instinct. Leaning towards [name]Calla[/name] at this time… thumbs up? Down?
