I updated an old post but decided to make a new one specifically about [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
After avoiding it for a long time, I decided [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is the only name that feels right to me. It feels classic but modern. Not too tough but not too soft. It fits a lot of personalities - bookish, artsy, athletic, etc.
And I think it sounds like a nice fit with my dd [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
The reason I didn’t even want to consider it at first:
One of my good friends and work colleagues has a son named [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. As do many other people in my field of work. I guess it appeals to the librarian sort. I know it’s popular overall, but it feels especially popular in my work circle.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are a bit My Fair Lady / that dumb hole in the bucket song that old people bring up about my dd already.
Those 2 things, especially the first, give me pause. But our last name is tricky- no 1 syllable names work, which are the boy names I find most handsome. Nothing that ends in S works, like [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Silas[/name_m]. I’m really not fond of biblical names that are very on-trend, but I would like a name with some historical substance.
I actually think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is fine with a sister named [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I didn’t make either of those connections, but now that I have it almost makes them fit better in my opinion. They seem to go naturally together. I would be hesitant to use it if I knew a lot of people with little [name_m]Henry[/name_m]'s. Here are some names you may like:
I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] make a perfect sibling set. I did not make those connections. That said, I do not think the connections are a negative.
Personally popularity doesn’t bother me. You could pick a different name, one not as popular around you at the moment, and end up knowing more of them in the future. Same is true in the reverse.
Thanks for everyone’s feedback so far! It all helps to get a variety of opinions.
As far as other names (I’ve been through the top 1000 list 4 times now), I’m really just lukewarm on a few that are plausible with my last name. I don’t think I’m at a point where I’m going to run across the “perfect” name. I’ve seen them all and just have to pick one. Or just decide not to care and let my husband pick one.
Go with [name_m]Henry[/name_m]! It’s terrific! The connection with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] isn’t a negative one and most people will not jump to it anyways.
I did not make the connections at all either, and I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] fit beautifully together but if it bothers you maybe
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_m]Roland[/name_m]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Percy[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_m]Leon[/name_m]
I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a great name. Unfortunately, I’m not super familiar with My Fair Lady so I can’t comment on that connection. As far as friends/colleagues with babies with the same name- I would definitely just mention to them that you really like it and plan to use it.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a strong classic name. It is popular but I don’t think overly so.
