So dh really likes the idea of a junior. His name is [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Michael[/name], and he goes exclusively by [name]Ben[/name]. I don’t like the full [name]Benjamin[/name] for everyday use, nor [name]Benji[/name]. Another [name]Ben[/name] would be too confusing and there’s already a close relative who uses [name]Michael[/name]. This has had me stumped for years, until last night I had a lightning bolt moment. [name]Beau[/name]! What do you think? Could [name]Beau[/name] be a reasonable nn for [name]Benjamin[/name] or am I reaching?
Well, you can technically nickname your kid whatever you want. [name]Beau[/name] isn’t an intuitive nn for [name]Benjamin[/name], but if you introduce him as such to friends and teachers and the like, they’ll probably follow your lead.
I love [name]Beau[/name] and I think it works well with [name]Benjamin[/name]! Another idea is [name]Jem[/name], as in, To Kill a Mockingbird.
[name]Bo[/name] is my favorite nickname for [name]Benjamin[/name], even if it isn’t intuitive.
Southern maple, I was debating the spelling. I thought [name]Beau[/name] made a little more sense as it shares more letters with [name]Benjamin[/name] but it is the showier spelling. [name]Sister[/name] is [name]Phoebe[/name] if that matters
why not. My dad’s name was [name]William[/name], but he sometimes was called [name]Beau[/name].
I think it work. [name]Beau[/name] might be a stretch it would be far less confusing than a second [name]Ben[/name].
I personally think the [name]Beau[/name] spelling is better as it means handsome
I don’t think it’s reaching at all! And I agree that the [name]Beau[/name] spelling makes more sense. Good luck!
It works! People will understand why his nickname is a bit if a stretch, with your hubby’s name being [name]Benjamin[/name] as well. It is kind of like the old days when people had to be creative with nicknames because there were so few names being used. I rather see the nickname [name]Beau[/name] than [name]Junior[/name]. [name]Every[/name] single [name]Junior[/name] I have ever met went by the actual nickname [name]Junior[/name] which I HATE.
It’s a bit of a stretch, [name]IMO[/name], but could work. Another nickname you could use for [name]Benjamin[/name] is [name]Jamie[/name].
I think [name]Beau[/name] or [name]Bo[/name] works well. I know a [name]Benjamin[/name] who goes by Bin or [name]Binny[/name].
and I’m with [name]Kitty[/name] on this I hate [name]Junior[/name] as a nn. [name]Trip[/name] for the third I love but [name]Junior[/name] <shudder>.
It’s a bit of a stretch to me since they don’t sound alike except for the B at the start. My family has a lot of sons and fathers with the same name and we don’t use any nicknames but there’s never been any confusion. I think people assume it will be more complicated than it is.
No, we would not be calling him [name]Junior[/name]! Not an option. In fact, I have even considered “cheating” and calling him [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Michael[/name], II instead of [name]Jr[/name], just to completely remove [name]Junior[/name] from the equation, but my sister assures me that this is the height of pretension. =) I do know several Trips and Treys and even Quatros and Quints, so I think I am in an area where passed-down names are still the norm and creative nicknames accepted. I’ve even thought of [name]Chip[/name] (as in, off the old block), but [name]Beau[/name] just literally came to me out of nowhere and I thought ‘hey! that could work!’ As for all the other [name]Benjamin[/name] nns, I just can’t stand a one of them except for [name]Ben[/name]. [name]Trust[/name] me…I have thought about them all!
[name]Beau[/name] or [name]Jem[/name] are great nn’s.
I think it works. [name]Beau[/name] is a great nickname for [name]Benjamin[/name].
[name]Beau[/name] is a term of endearment so technically any boy/man with any name can be called [name]Beau[/name]. So you can call him [name]Beau[/name] but to say it’s a nn for [name]Benjamin[/name] just doesn’t make sense.
If you don’t like any of the [name]Benjamin[/name] nn’s what about [name]Micah[/name] or [name]Miko[/name]?
So his name would be [name]Benjamin[/name] and you’d call him [name]Beau[/name]? It is a stretch, but if you call him [name]Beau[/name] everyone else will, so it will work I think.
If the idea is “naming him after his father” but not naming him [name]Benjamin[/name] but [name]Beau[/name], I think the stretch is waaay to far.
I really like the name [name]Beau[/name]! And I think that if you wanna call your kid that, then go for it. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a “stretch” or not.
[name]Beau[/name] is okay, but I wouldn’t say it’s directly linked to [name]Benjamin[/name].
I like the idea of [name]Jem[/name] or [name]Jamie[/name] though.
