Too Much of a Stretch?

We’re due with our third baby in a few weeks and have been discussing whether we’ll stop after this one or try for one more. At the very least it’s fun to speculate over names when I’m so uncomfortable!

We have considered many names for a potential second girl but have come down to [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. My question is: since both incorporate the -el sound, and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] could be a nickname for [name_f]Elena[/name_f], could [name_f]Belle[/name_f] work as a nickname for it as well? Sort of like how [name_m]William[/name_m] shortens to [name_m]Will[/name_m] or [name_m]Bill[/name_m]? This way we could use them both! What do you think?

Sibling names would be [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. Another boy would most likely be [name_u]Calder[/name_u]. Also I’m leaning towards either [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f] or [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f]–thoughts?

Thanks for your help!

I think it could work - I’ve heard girls with [name_f]Ell[/name_f]-names being called [name_f]Elle[/name_f]-belle ot [name_f]Ella[/name_f]-brlla before, kind of like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]-posie -that could be a way to [name_f]Belle[/name_f]?

I am sorry to bring up a pet name but my mum’s dog is called [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and I call her jokingly/affectionately BellyElly.

As well as what you mention with [name_m]William[/name_m] I feel it can work.

I think an [name_f]Elena[/name_f] could be called [name_f]Belle[/name_f], it’s a stretch but not a huge one.
That said I 100% prefer [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f] to [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f], it’s a beautiful combo.

Hmm, my first reaction was “no — it feels too forced”, but reading the other responses, I’ve heard little Ellas being called [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Bella[/name_f] from time to time, so I guess it could work.

I’d be inclined to go straight for [name_f]Belle[/name_f], though. It works beautifully with [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f], and your [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f] combo is just lovely.

Personally, I don’t think that [name_f]Elena[/name_f] to [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and then affectionately named [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is too much of a stretch. I love the middle name combo of [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and love the sibset!

I completely agree with everything katinka said!

Thank you everyone! You’ve given me a lot to think about as to whether we go the [name_f]Elena[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Belle[/name_f] route or just straight to [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. I’m happy everyone thought either worked with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and with the other children’s names. It seems like we’re on the right track! As to whether we have another baby, or another girl, remains to be seen, but it’s fun to think about anyway!

I think that since [name_f]Belle[/name_f] means “beauty” in [name_m]French[/name_m], it could definitely be used as an affectionate pet name for [name_f]Elena[/name_f]

Like you pointed out with [name_m]Will[/name_m]/[name_m]Bill[/name_m], we also do that with [name_m]Rob[/name_m]/[name_m]Bob[/name_m] and I think Ellabella is a common enough nickname for girls with the bell/elle sound in their name so it works just fine.
