A lot of my favorite names end with ‘s’ or have an ‘s’ sound in them. My last name is Sn0w. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think these name pairings are too difficult to say?
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] Sn0w
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] Sn0w (if she were to go by [name_u]Jo[/name_u]/[name_u]Joey[/name_u]? [name_u]Jo[/name_u] Sn0w?)
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Sn0w (if he were to go by [name_u]Theo[/name_u] Sn0w)
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] Sn0w?
I love my last name and want to use it for my kids instead of my fiance’s last name, but I hate that it can be difficult to pair with. Our favorites don’t tend to be names that end in ‘a’. Opinions or suggestions?
The only girl name that doesn’t work is [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] doesn’t work but for a different reason (both nature names, the combo sounds like a perfume). For boys, I think they all work except for [name_m]Otto[/name_m], but it’s not the worst. I’ve also heard of girls named [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] T@bor and [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] McC@be so bad first-last name flow isn’t the worst thing in the world.
I agree with everything said above! [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] doesn’t work so well, and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] (because of the nature/color association). All the others seem alright to me! Also, I prefer [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] to [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f].
My favourite one of the names with your surname for the girls is [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]~ Though, unlike the pp’s I kind of like [name_f]Iris[/name_f]~
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] makes me think of the Friendly ghost because [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and White. Not sure what you think about that. That said, my favourite with your surname from the boys is [name_m]Oscar[/name_m].
To my ears most of them sound fine- with maybe the exception of [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f]/a, [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_m]Linus[/name_m], and [name_m]Otto[/name_m].
A lot of the names you have picked out contradict your last name! [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_u]August[/name_u] paired with the last name Sn0w. Of your girl’s names, [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] Sn0w or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] Sn0w sound best. Of your boy’s names [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] Sn0w sounds best.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] going off of sound:
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] work for the girls.
[name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] work for the boys.
I would try to avoid names that end in an S or O sound.
I break my own rule in a negative posting but I agree with your thoughts of too much ‘s’ or ‘o’. Sad - they are the names you love.
But, e.g. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] just sounds so much cleaner to me. I am but one.
Best wishes.
From your list, I think the only names that would work are [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (because the s makes a z sound) and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] (the s is far enough away from the S to not blend into the sound).
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] also makes the z sound, but it also has the repeating o problem. And I think it makes the name too [name_m]OTT[/name_m] nature-wise.
There are so many beautiful names that would pair really well with [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. I like a pp suggestion of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], for example, or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] / [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] / [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]… the list is endless, really. For a boy you could use [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], which is similar to [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], or [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], which is similar to [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] while avoiding the “white ghost / white snow” connection.
The only ones that don’t work for me are [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u]. [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is too descriptive, and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is hard to say and a bit descriptive also.
I don’t think there is a problem with the others. You have a beautifully evocative surname, I envy you
I think the only ones that don’t work are [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Linus[/name_m]. The others are fine, and I especially like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f].
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] work. [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] sounds like strange weather.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] Sn0w - yes too much o!
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] Sn0w - makes me think of xmas!
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Sn0w - it’s ok
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] Sn0w - too much o!
I wouldn’t worry about too much “O” sound - all of those names sounded fine to me, as did all of the boys’ names. I definitely think the variations ([name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]) sound better with [name_f]Snow[/name_f] than their counterparts, and I’d probably avoid [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] works just fine.
