Too old?

What do you think of the name [name_m]Saul[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too old or could work on a baby? I’m also thinking of the Hebrew original “[name_m]Shaul[/name_m]” pronounced Shah-ool. I’m not super worried about people mispronouncing it because it doesn’t bother me much. Which version do you like better? I also like [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] so he’s also a contender…

[name_m]Saul[/name_m]
[name_m]Shaul[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]

I adore [name_m]Saul[/name_m]!!! It can definitely stand alone, or make a great nn for [name_m]Solomon[/name_m].

It may seem a bit dated to some people, but theres many old fashioned names becoming popular nowadays.

Solomon is cool and is the most wearable of the lot, nickname Sol is appealing.

I’m meh on Saul but it sounds much better than Sha-ool.

I quite like [name_m]Saul[/name_m] and [name_m]Shaul[/name_m]. They sound calming and interesting.

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] though is fantastic! I love the flow and elegance

I don’t find [name_m]Saul[/name_m] too ‘old’ to use today. I think it’s a great name - short, sweet and recognisable, yet not so common.

I think [name_m]Shaul[/name_m] would work well for you, too. If I remember correctly, you love [name_u]Ira[/name_u]…[name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_m]Shaul[/name_m] would make for a nice, too (for that matter, [name_u]Ira[/name_u] [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] would be great, too).

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m], followed by [name_m]Saul[/name_m]

I do think [name_m]Saul[/name_m] is a bit of an “old man” name, but it’s one that’s ready for a comeback, in my opinion. It fits right in with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]/[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]/[name_u]Gus[/name_u], but with a Hebrew flair. Very usable!

I do prefer [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Sol[/name_m], but that’s a matter of personal taste and partly to do with preferring [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] as a namesake (although the meaning of [name_m]Shaul[/name_m]/[name_m]Saul[/name_m] is really nice).

In Australia we really don’t hear [name_m]Saul[/name_m] much at all, I certainly don’t associate it with “old” names. [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is lovely, that’d be my pick.

I’ve never heard of [name_m]Saul[/name_m] before, and would assume it to be pronounced like Shawl, rhyming with [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. Since I’m not familiar with the name, I dont have it linked to any age group. I think it would work on a child though

This is indeed the correct pronunciation in English - it’s [name_m]Paul[/name_m]-with-an-S, no “sh” sound.

I think all are wonderful. I like [name_m]Saul[/name_m] best of the three though. It’s fab and a perfect level of old to be cool again without being super trendy.

[name_m]Shaul[/name_m] is so handsome and striking but I find it a bit tricky to say. Something about all the vowel sounds immediately after a Sh-. Obviously a personal thing for me, and if it doesn’t bother you great. It reminds me a lot of Semuel / [name_m]Shemuel[/name_m].

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is also wonderful. Very ancient and cool again. [name_m]Solly[/name_m] is cute.

You might also like [name_m]Simeon[/name_m]?

Which is better [name_m]Sol[/name_m] or [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]? Or is [name_m]Saul[/name_m] the best? I like all of them!

Another question- [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce [name_m]Sol[/name_m] the same way as [name_m]Saul[/name_m] or do you pronounce it like “sun” in Spanish?

Which name would you choose?

Possible middles for each??
