Too Popular

I am about 75% sold on [name_u]Luca[/name_u] for this baby… and while its not on any top 100 lists in the last few years, it is on the climb this year… is it popular where you are?

I am afraid hell be one of too many… like how Jasons were when I was in school. I think I had 5 in my class alone and I am from a small town.

And if I go with [name_u]Luca[/name_u] do you like [name_u]Brett[/name_u] or [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] better for a middle name? Last name Voeltz. Big brother [name_u]Keegan[/name_u].

Thanks for any input.

I have personally never met a [name_u]Luca[/name_u] of any age and I don’t see it rising to mega-popular levels. I think you shouldn’t worry about it. Also, I think [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_u]Brett[/name_u] sounds much better than [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] - I sort of trip over my tongue trying to say it.

[name_u]Luca[/name_u] is popular but not anywhere near as popular as the top 10 names (which is what [name_m]Jason[/name_m] was when we were growing up). I highly doubt he’d be one of five in his class. There might be another but at the same time, there could be two [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]'s in his class, too.

I don’t hear [name_u]Luca[/name_u] much and I also think because people are choosing from a wider range, even names on the popular list will never be like [name_m]Jason[/name_m] was.

I heard [name_u]Luca[/name_u] called out once a couple years ago on a Fourth of [name_f]July[/name_f] weekend when I went to go see fireworks. I wouldn’t be too concerned–I think [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]/[name_m]Luke[/name_m] are both really popular (as well as [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]), but [name_u]Luca[/name_u], not so much. Besides, popularity isn’t what it used to be, so it only averages that there will be about one [name_u]Noah[/name_u] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] (the top name for each gender) per grade (not even classroom, per grade per school district!), so I doubt he’ll have 5 [name_u]Luca[/name_u]'s in his school district, much less his class!

Thanks for everyones input! I feel better about it.

With my son [name_u]Keegan[/name_u] he was the only one in the land of Kaidens and Aidens and Jaidens 10 years ago… so it was nice that he was different without being odd… now there are 2 Keegans (one boy and one girl) in the 1st grade, my son is in 5th… I liked when he was the only one.

I like that he could call someone and be like this is [name_u]Keegan[/name_u] and they know who he is… where as I am a [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and there are so many my name doesnt stand out.

But my boyfriend is not going for anything too weird… so I kinda got to rein it in a bit. lol.

I like [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and very rarely hear it from where I’m from (Australia). If it’s very popular where you live, though, I think it would be worth a second thought; but this is coming from someone who has a very popular name and is quite adverse to calling her own children that.

[name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_u]Brett[/name_u] is great!

Unless you’re in [name_f]Italy[/name_f], I think you’re safe. I would consider a middle name that works better w/[name_u]Luca[/name_u]…[name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_m]Matteo[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_m]Cesare[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_m]Paolo[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_m]Marco[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_u]Jordan[/name_u]?

Never met a [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. It foes seem feminine to me.

[name_f]My[/name_f] boyfriend wants the middle name to be [name_u]Brett[/name_u] or [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] after his uncle that was killed in Iraq and he doesnt seem to be budging on that point. I dont like either of them, but [name_u]Luca[/name_u] was a name from “my” list so he feels he should at least get the middle name.

[name_u]Luca[/name_u] has been a girls name in the past but according to everything I have read it is making a big push as a boys name recently.

I wont even consider something that has been in the top 100 in the last several years… and so far [name_u]Luca[/name_u] hasnt been even though it moving up the list in 2014.

I can’t see [name_u]Luca[/name_u] getting mega popular. I have never met a [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and I only know one [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. I think [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_u]Brett[/name_u] sounds better!

I like [name_u]Brett[/name_u] for middle name better than [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] as well because of the strong c/ca sounds… I just dont think [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_u]Brett[/name_u] has a good flow to it. But may just deal with it so that I get the name I like and my boyfriend still honors his uncle as he seems to not be up for negotiation on that point.

[name_u]Luca[/name_u] is very handsome.

But here’s my top recommendation :):

[name_u]Keegan[/name_u] {and} [name_u]Brennan[/name_u], [name_m]Bryant[/name_m], [name_u]Grady[/name_u]

{Irish surname names}

I love the name [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. Here in [name_f]England[/name_f] its been getting steadily more popular but I still haven’t met any in real life. I like the middle name [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] but agree that the ca - K sound might seem off to some. I don’t think [name_u]Brett[/name_u] sounds bad either to be honest and since its important to baby’s dad then I would probably go with it.

I love [name_u]Luca[/name_u], especially for a boy. I know in my state in Australia it did make top 100 boys names last year, but I still don’t think it will ever rank as high as the traditional classics like [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. Definitely [name_u]Brett[/name_u] to avoid the double ‘ca’ sound.

I’m from [name_f]Italy[/name_f], so I shouldn’t even be bothered to reply, but I’m telling you, even here it’s not as popular as [name_m]Francesco[/name_m] or [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] are these days. You hardly find two [name_u]Luca[/name_u] in the same class here, at least where I live, so it’s a very familiar name, but not an overused one. I agree with the others though, I’d go with [name_u]Brett[/name_u] too as a middle.

I only know one [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and he is 14 yrs old. As for a middle, [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] is kind of a tongue twister with the hard c and the k, so I would go with [name_u]Brett[/name_u].

I have worked with kids for 4 years and have only met one, spelled [name_m]Luka[/name_m], who was about 5, so I think it’d be safe. I also vote [name_u]Brett[/name_u] because of the ca/k sounds

Thanks for the input everyone… [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_u]Brett[/name_u] is our strong front runner, but still holding out on making it official as I am afraid there might be one more name out there we just havent heard that would be perfect. This is such a hard job.

I love [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. It’s rising in popularity, but I don’t think it’ll ever be top 10
