I’m currently TTC. My husband and I have been using this time to figure out boy and girl name options. We found out this weekend that his grandmothers middle name is [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and we were astonished that no one in his (rather large) family has used this name yet. I mean he has three aunts, 4 female cousins, and three nieces. As soon as my husband told me how beautiful he thought [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] was I about died on the spot. It IS beautiful but is it too popular ??? Our first girl choice is [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] would go perfectly if we happened to have two girls. What do you berries think ? [name_m]How[/name_m] often do you actually hear [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]? I know it’s in the 60s of the social security list… Which is a huge bummer for me. Help nameberries !
To be honest I’ve never met a [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] in real life. If you love it I don’t think the popularity should keep you from using it, especially if it’s meaningful. If you’re concerned look up your state or area statistics for baby names which will give you a better idea of how popular it actually is in your area.
Not too popular at all. It’s such a beautiful name and sounds perfect with [name_u]Eden[/name_u]. I love the family connection too. I know one [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] in her 70s. I say use it
[name_m]Little[/name_m] girls? I know one. But she’s the daughter of a friend/coworker, and I suggested [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] to her when she asked for name help, and her name is [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]!a nn [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], so I don’t know if that counts lol. I’ve met a couple little old lady Hazels, too. I adore the name. I have it on my list, too. I would totally still use it! [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is gorgeous, and the family tie makes it all the more special.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is adorable! I haven’t met one in real life yet, but I have heard of several acquaintances using it it’s because of The Fault in Our Stars (which was a stupid movie/book anyhow…and it takes a lot for me to dub a book stupid!). On that note, why can’t writers use names that are already common…like [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] lol. Then names like this wouldn’t raise up so high on the list I digress though lol.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is a great choice and that’s awesome it is up for grabs for you guys!
Thank you so much for the positive responses ! It’s really popular in my state but I’m sure by the time I have a second girl (if I have a second girl) it will have dropped down in popularity because the pop culture reference will have faded a. It. That’s what I hope anyway ! Now I’m just crossing my fingers that someone doesn’t use it before I can !
I think it’s a gorgeous name, and you should definitely use it if no one in your extended family has used it yet! That said, it’s not a rarity where I live (I know 2 young Hazels), and based on the rate that it’s jumping on the SS list (it’s one of the fastest rising girls names in the top 100), I wouldn’t bet on it going down anytime soon. It is probably a good bet to go top 10. I don’t think that should deter you, but I do think that in a couple of years, you will probably meet some Hazels!
In 2014, it was #137 if you rank popularity by various spellings. See here
I’m not around many children, but I haven’t seen any Hazels yet. It really depends on your circle and your area. For example, I know of a [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and a [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], but no Noahs.

It also depends on your state and your own friend group. Although I’m not around many children, I don’t know any Noahs, but I know of a [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m].
