What do you mean by too popular?
Is a kid named [name_m]Liam[/name_m] going to have to go by his last name at school? Probably.
Does that make it unusable, though? For me, personally, I’d say yes.
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] is very common where I live, but if you love it then that shouldn’t deter you from loving or using it. There’s a reason it’s popular: it’s a great name!
Honestly there’s no such thing as “too popular”, it really depends on the person.
[name_m]Will[/name_m] he have another [name_m]Liam[/name_m] in his class? It’s not certain but I’d say probably. If that bothers you then yes it’s too popular.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you want him to not know any other kids his age with his name? If not then [name_m]Liam[/name_m] is too popular.
Now if you’re asking for my personal opinion and if I find it too popular then yes, I do.
Without knowing what country or state you’re in I can’t really say. If you in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand or Australia it’s somewhere in the 30’s so you are less likely to meet another kid with this name whereas in [name_u]America[/name_u] it’s #1 so you most likely will
It was popular when I was in school - so 20-25 year olds now.
Not sure it’s that popular on babies anymore.

I would say most likely yes depending on our location, but if you really love it then you should go ahead and use it anyway. I’m partial to it as it’s the name of my eldest nephew, although he’s 13 now and it was a little less trendy then.
If popularity is something that bothers you but you want a similar feel, may I suggest [name_m]Callum[/name_m] as as alternative?
If you love it, use it. Our son is [name_m]Henry[/name_m], which is in the top 10 in our region; yet I’ve not encountered another [name_m]Henry[/name_m] in his classroom. We did pause in choosing his name fearing he would be one of many, but the name [name_m]Henry[/name_m] won out - I wasn’t willing to not use my all time favorite name just because other people used it, too.
Isn’t it the number 1 boys name? Think about it this way, you could literally not pick a more popular boy’s name.
I would have a look at other options, but if [name_m]Liam[/name_m] really has your heart, pick it anyway.
