We’re not TTC just yet, but I’m always thinking of names for our future kiddos. The only girl name DH & I have [name_u]EVER[/name_u] agreed on 100% is [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. But, now I’m worried it’s going to be too popular by the time we have kids (within the next 2-3 years is our target).
What do you think? Is it popular where you are? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s trending? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any alternative suggestions?
I only know two people named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]- a lady in her 90s and a girl about 9 years old. I do know two cats named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], but I don’t think it is necessarily a pet name. I love it and think you should use it if you two both agree that it is the one!
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is familiar but not wildly popular. I know a few [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]'s, all different ages. This is a good indicator of a name having a consistent popularity- meaning I don’t think it will skyrocket in the next few years and it’s unlikely to be majorly trendy when you have have a baby.
What is your definition of too popular? There were 90 Rubys (ranked #65) born in [name_u]Tennessee[/name_u] last year, compared to 435 Avas (ranked #1). To me, how much you love a name is more important than popularity- if it’s the name you agree on, there is a reason why!
I think what matters is that you love it. I don’t know anyone named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] personally, but I know of a 1 year old named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. I don’t think its too popular, and I doubt it will ever be on the top 20.
I think it’s a classic, well-known name but isn’t too popular, I’ve never met anyone where I live named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] (Southeast US). [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you do find it to be too popular, if it’s the name you really want then you’ll regret not choosing it when the time comes.
