Too quirky? Betsi Eilleen ...

I love [name]Betsi[/name] [name]Eileen[/name] for my next girl but I am concerned it does not match her older sister [name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]. What do you name nerds think - any suggestions or comments? Is [name]Betsi[/name] quirky or unfashionable? Eilleen has to stay to represent the grandmother.

Is there any significance to the i ending? It just seems inescapably ditzy and demeaning to me. [name]Betsy[/name] Eilleen would be much better in my opinion.

I do think that [name]Betsi[/name] Eilleen and [name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] are very, very different in style. I don’t think that that’s neccessarily awful, but they do seem quite different.

Would you be willing to use [name]Betsi[/name] as a nickname for something like [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Bettina[/name], or [name]Beatrix[/name]? Honestly, even [name]Betsy[/name] as a full name, while still a tiny bit insubstantial, wouldn’t bother me as much as [name]Betsi[/name].

Yes, I’ve thought of [name]Betsy[/name] as a spelling option too, I am easy either way. I also like your suggestion of [name]Beatrix[/name] too as that name does sound more finished. I guess the i at the end came about from my thinking that the ‘tsy’ looks clunky to me. Thanks for your opinion : )

Nono, do you have a suggestion of a name to match [name]Isla[/name]?

Hm. I think that [name]Beatrix[/name] would probably match well with [name]Isla[/name].

Some other suggestions …

[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Pippa[/name]
Merit
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Julitta[/name]
[name]Vivien[/name]
[name]Alba[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Mirren[/name]
[name]Neely[/name]
[name]Freesia[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Dara[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Beryl[/name]
[name]Merle[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]June[/name]

I love nono’s suggestion of [name]Beatrix[/name]! [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Eileen[/name] sounds very nice. I do think that [name]Betsy[/name] in any spelling is a little too old fashioned for me. Makes me think of a cow for some reason. I think it is a different style from [name]Isla[/name] but [name]Beatrix[/name] with nn [name]Betsy[/name] would go nicely.

[name]How[/name] about:

[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Flora[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Willa[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]

[name]Isla[/name] and [name]Betsy[/name]? Yes, definitely. The -i spelling throws me off, though. I think [name]Betsy[/name] is adorable and so ready for a revival, just perfect with big sister [name]Isla[/name]. Also like the suggestion of [name]Beatrix[/name].

ThNks ladies for your considered replies. My other options are [name]Cora[/name], [name]Flora[/name], [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]. We will try on [name]Betsy[/name] with a ‘y’ for a little longer though : ) Cheers.

I love [name]Betsey[/name] spelled this way, but I don’t like it spelled [name]Betsi[/name]. I think the name is unique enough without the different spelling. I think [name]Betsey[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] are fine as a pair. [name]Betsey[/name] [name]Eileen[/name] is adorable!

I think [name]Betsey[/name] or [name]Betsy[/name] is great. I went to school with one who left a really good impression of the name, I dont think its too old fashioned for a comeback and I like it with [name]Isla[/name].

I much prefer the spelling [name]Betsy[/name]. It’s very retro next to the hip [name]Isla[/name] but I guess thats not a bad thing. I prefer [name]Elsie[/name] to [name]Betsy[/name] as a vintage nn for [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Elsie[/name] sound so sweet together but not sure about the alliteration of [name]Elsie[/name] [name]Eileen[/name].
