Too similar??

My husband and I both like the name [name]Miles[/name] for a boy. We have a niece named [name]Maya[/name] and I’m worried the names may be a bit too similar for cousins (they will be together a lot).

What do you think?

i don’t think they’re too close. i like them. and they’re cousins, not siblings, so the repeated initial doesn’t bother me. they’re different enough so everyone will know who’s being spoken to!

in our family, because we used grandparent’s initials, my kids have initials in common with their cousins. we like it.

good luck.

Personally I think they are too close. It’s not just the same initial, but the bulk of the sound of the names are the same. We spend a lot of time with our nieces and nephews, I know it would be confusing for us. And, to be perfectly honest, I would be kind of upset if I had a [name]Maya[/name] and then my nephew was named [name]Miles[/name]. I am more sensitive about this than most though, so it just depends on what you’re comfortable with.

Heavens how could this upset anyone? If in fact the children find a similarity in their names this would bond them together.

I personally don’t think they are too close. They are not siblings after all and it’s okay for cousins to have names starting with the same initials.

My daughter’s name is [name]Maya[/name]…not sure I would have even thought about the names being similar if she ended up with a cousin named [name]Miles[/name]. They sound similar but it’s definitely not a big deal (and this is coming from a name nerd after all l so I think you’re fine!).
