I have a lead character named [name_f]Louise[/name_f]. [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is going to have her first child with her husband. [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
and her husband prefer classic names, especially those found in their family trees. The only problem
is that there is a limited amount of family names to choose from. The top choice is currently [name_m]Henry[/name_m], a name that fits with the couples own very well. But, I’ve already planned to name another character [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and I just can’t imagine [name_m]Henry[/name_m] with any other name. The other option for [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and her husband is [name_m]Louis[/name_m], but I fear it’s too close to [name_f]Louise[/name_f].
Is [name_m]Louis[/name_m] too close to [name_f]Louise[/name_f]?
Should I just use [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and find a new name for the current [name_m]Henry[/name_m]?
It seems like your character and that name are already linked. I wouldn’t break such a connection.
Also I don’t feel like [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] are too close, especially if [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is going to be her son. It is a different matter if the characters wouldn’t be related but to my opinion naming the son something similar to the mother is totally okay.
I can see your problem though. Would it be a possibility to change the spelling maybe to [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] (still a very similar sound but the confusion with the “missing e” would be avoided)?
Yes, I guess they are too similar. I mean, when a reader sees the names in the book he is very likely to be confused. Personally, I even confuse the characters whose surnames/first names start with the same letter
I agree with lillyart, you can change the spelling, or maybe choose another name that starts with L. [name_m]How[/name_m] about
[name_m]Leonard[/name_m]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
[name_m]Lorrence[/name_m]
[name_m]Louie[/name_m] at least?
I’m not quite sure whether these names are classic enough, though, but to my mind they fit [name_f]Louise[/name_f] well
And if you certainly want to name him [name_m]Henry[/name_m], can it be turned so that your MC names her child after the already existing [name_m]Henry[/name_m]? The little one can be called [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. Or you can give him another classic name with H like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] or [name_m]Harrold[/name_m].
