Too similar?

Are [name_u]Arlen[/name_u] and [name_f]Irene[/name_f] too similar?

I don’t think they’re too similar with different beginning and endings sounds if [name_u]Arlen[/name_u] is said Ar-len, not Ar-leen. If it’s Ar-leen then yeah they’re too close.

I don’t think so!

For siblings, yes. For family members/family friends, I think it’s fine.

They are very similar. Perhaps [name_u]Arley[/name_u] or [name_u]Aven[/name_u] instead?

Ditto.

I agree :joy: I can’t unsee it now. [name_u]Arlen[/name_u] is my #2 boy name and I’ve been recently liking [name_f]Irene[/name_f] but I have two girl names I love way more than [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. So, it’s very unlikely I’d have to choose between the two unless I have 5+ kids which I don’t plan to  Was just seeing other opinions on this.

Yes.

I think they are fine together unless [name_u]Arlen[/name_u] is pronounced ar-[name_f]Leen[/name_f].

I’d be hesitant to use them as sibling names because the ‘r’ sound is very strong in both names. It’s not ideal, but it definitely isn’t a total no-go - I wouldn’t find it too weird to meet siblings with these names, and it definitely would be fine for cousins or other extended family members. :relaxed: :white_heart:

I find them quite similar myself. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Arden[/name_u]? The hard D in [name_u]Arden[/name_u] makes it more punchy than [name_u]Arlen[/name_u].

I like [name_u]Arden[/name_u] a lot and [name_u]Auden[/name_u], but our last name starts with a D so I don’t want to use names with a D in them. I love [name_u]Arlen[/name_u] way more than [name_f]Irene[/name_f] if it ever came down to choosing between them. Thank you!
