Too Sing-Songy?

I’m pregnant with boy #2. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I had a heck of a time picking our son’s name ([name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]), and this round isn’t any easier. Our current favorite is [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] biggest concern is that our last name sounds like “Harkin”. Is [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Harkin too sing-songy?

Other names we like (though not as much):

[name_m]Graham[/name_m]/[name_m]Graeme[/name_m]
[name_m]Heath[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]

Thanks for your opinions!

I do not see any issue with [name_m]Simon[/name_m] “Harkin”. I think it is handsome. I love [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Miles[/name_m] make a very nice sibling set. All the other names on the list also go very well with [name_m]Miles[/name_m].

You have some awesome names there! You can’t go wrong. I love [name_m]Simon[/name_m]! I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Harkin works. If you are unsure about it you could use [name_m]Simeon[/name_m]. From your list, I really like [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] with [name_m]Miles[/name_m]. I haven’t seen this spelling for a while and I like that it has ‘gray’ in it. I also like [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]. [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] might go well with [name_m]Miles[/name_m] too? I’m not sure if you’re looking for combinations but these spring to mind :):

[name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_m]Simeon[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]

I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Harkin sounds lovely.

Thanks! I appreciate it.

I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Harkin is a fine, handsome name. I really love [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] Harkin. It sounds so perfect with [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] Harkin.

I like a lot of names on this list, but unfortunately DH has vetoed them. He’s so opinionated. We completely eliminated all names ending with “-in” or “-on” sound the first time around, but we both keep coming back to [name_m]Simon[/name_m] this time. Boys names are so hard for us, and I’m not looking forward to months of hashing this out.

I keep going back and forth on the sing songy thing, but I appreciate all the feedback.

I have the same problem with every name that ends with an -ee sound.

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] “Ohmbee”
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] “Ohmbee”
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] “Ohmbee”
[name_u]Finley[/name_u] “Ohmbee”

I think if you can avoid it then that’s good, but if the only name you love and can agree on is a name that sounds a bit sing-songy with your surname, then bah go with it! There are way worse things out there.

I don’t think it sounds too bad together, maybe a tad singsongy, but if it’s the name you love, you’ll regret not calling him that down the road (I know a couple in that boat, lol). I also like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] a lot!

It wouldn’t bother me, I actually think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] sounds handsome with your last name.

I also think that [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Harkin sounds remarkably good together. It has great flow and is a very handsome name!

[name_m]Simon[/name_m] is a fine name! I really love [name_m]Simon[/name_m] but my fiance doesn’t :frowning: [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Harkin sounds great, I don’t see any problems with it at all! [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is also a lovely name, and I would [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to meet brothers called [name_m]Miles[/name_m] & [name_m]Simon[/name_m]!! They’re both so handsome.

I’ve said [name_m]Simon[/name_m] ‘Harkin’ a few times, and I think it sounds fine, not sing-songy at all.
