Too vintage or new and hip sounding

We’re expecting our 4th child in [name]October[/name]. We aren’t certain boy or girl so coming up with both gender names has been challenging. We’re thinking of [name]Hampton[/name] [name]Michael[/name] for a boy. I like it but not sure if I’m in love with it. [name]Hampton[/name] is my husbands grandfathers name and [name]Michael[/name] is my husbands middle name.
Can’t wait to hear if you all think it’s too old fashion or if it’s workable!
Thank you in advance

I like the family connection, I’d use it!!! [name]Just[/name] be prepared for his schoolmates to land on the nickname [name]Ham[/name], because that is probably inevitable. But as far as nicknames go, it’s a safe one!

I like it, especially with the family connection!

A possible nickname if you wanted one could be [name]Tony[/name] (from the -ton).

[name]Hampton[/name] [name]Michael[/name] is great! I like the family connections. [name]Hampton[/name] fits right in with current trends.

I like [name]Hampton[/name] and it’s a really nice family connection. And I personally love the NN [name]Ham[/name] for a kid - cheesy and adorable.

I like it! My church’s name has [name]Hampden[/name] (sounds quite close to [name]Hampton[/name]) in it, so I’ve always found it quite attractive as a name/place. I think [name]Hampton[/name] [name]Michael[/name] is really cool. The nn [name]Ham[/name] could be a bit unfortunate, though. :frowning:

I like it!

I am liking [name]Hampton[/name]- but not liking the nn [name]Ham[/name].
I am picturing every time books to do with pigs are read he would be prone to teasing, plus if he were chubby and named “[name]Ham[/name]” it could be rather unfortunate. A different nn would be better.
Despite the family link, I think of it as a place name- like using [name]Aspen[/name].

I don’t think its too old fashioned to work at all. And, maybe I’m the only one, but I sort of think the nn [name]Ham[/name] could work on the right child. Although I’d probably try to push for [name]Hamp[/name].

I will disagree with pp. I don’t care for it. I wouldn’t mind it in the middle name spot, but it sounds too surnamey and made up to me (even thought it isn’t).

I think it will be fresh and hip for [name]Hampton[/name]‘s generation, even if it’s more “grandpa” for his parents’.

Thank you all for your feedback!! We’re not typically ones to use much nn’s. We take forever to agree to a name that it usually doesn’t get shortened. But if [name]Ham[/name] is the worse they can come up with, I don’t think its to bad! Thanks again, I’m feeling better about using it

I actually like the nn Amp!
The name is a little…country club, but it’s not bad.

It’s so funny - I was watching ‘Definitely,Maybe’ last night and there is a character called [name]Hampton[/name] in it. I wrote the name down because I thought it was cool and interesting. So yes, I definitely think it could work!

I’m sorry but I really don’t like [name]Hampton[/name]. It’s not that it’s too old fashioned, its because I think it sounds very pretentious. And like a pp said, [name]Ham[/name] will inevitably become a nn kids will give him. [name]Hampton[/name] is also the name of the little pig on [name]Tiny[/name] Toons.

I am not a fan. It reminds me of the hotel chain

[name]Love[/name] the family connection! I think it’s very usable

It’s not too old at all! I like that it has a family connection. And if you aren’t big on nicknames, that works too (because [name]Ham[/name] is pretty unfortunate.) The only connection I have with [name]Hampton[/name] is a rich man in nautical garb saying “Well, the missus and I are going to the Hamptons. We’ll take the boat around, maybe eat some lobster. You must join us sometime.”
Pairing it with [name]Michael[/name] is great. Very handsome combination.

This is the first thing I thought of too. I should also note that I am the absolute last person to know whether something is hip, BUT I love the family connection and [name]Hampton[/name] [name]Michael[/name] is such a handsome name!! To be honest, if I met a little [name]Hampton[/name], I might roll my eyes and make a snap judgment that his parents were probably hipsters or “old money” or something like that, but when I know it’s a family name, that changes my opinion completely. I know – I’m a hypocrite. Oh well. I love it. Use it!

Really like [name]Hampton[/name] and the combo. That’s funny kala_way, but my first thought was that Amp would be a neat nn, too! I’d say go with it!
