I’m slightly obsessed with the name [name_u]Ever[/name_u] lately and my husband actually thinks its cute which barely happens. BUT I can’t convince myself that it wouldn’t be weird to name a child [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. It seems extremely out of place with our children’s names. His 2 daughters are [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] and my son is [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
It’s too weird to use, right? I’m just being crazy, right?
I just love the sound of [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]…hmmm.
As far as sounding out of place with your other kids’ names, yes it does. However as a name itself, I love [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. But alot of people might disagree.
The only name it sounds out of place with is [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. [name_u]Ever[/name_u] fits well with [name_u]Reece[/name_u] and [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f].
It does not sound so weird, for me it just sounds a bit unfinished - I would probably use [name_u]Everly[/name_u] instead since I like the sound better.
We named our children as individuals and didn’t worry about how they sounded together as long as they weren’t rhyming. Our naming choices had more to do with what we loved at the time and our relationship with that child, so for me, if I loved it, that would probably trump whether or not it ‘fit’ with my existing children’s names (I find it hard to tell anyway, classic vs romantic vs trendy vs hippie etc!). Fwiw, I think [name_u]Ever[/name_u] is cute. Good luck!
I really like it, but I can imagine the child being teased ‘forever [name_u]Ever[/name_u]?’ Etc.
Maybe [name_f]Eva[/name_f], Everdeen or [name_u]Everly[/name_u] (as pp suggested. Their is also [name_f]Neva[/name_f] or [name_f]Neiva[/name_f].
When it comes to opposite gender sibs, I don’t think they need to go together. [name_u]Reese[/name_u], [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] & [name_u]Ever[/name_u] work well together and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] isn’t out of place either.
I would just love to meet a little girl named [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. Far from crazy. And the fact that your husband is on board with this more uncommon name is good reason to just do the daring thing and enjoy it.
I don’t think it is too weird. I know someone mentioned a concern about being teased but I wouldn’t worry about that so much these days. I know we think about our childhood where there were far fewer acceptable names to use and kids were teased for it. These days most kids have unusual names. No one will even bat an eye at the name [name_u]Ever[/name_u].
I think it goes fine with [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is traditional compared to [name_u]Ever[/name_u] but it is also traditional compared to [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] so I wouldn’t be concerned. I also think it is nice for your to chose a traditional middle name ([name_f]Joanna[/name_f]) that way if she grows up and thinks you were nuts she can can go by [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] instead.
If you really love the name then I say go for it. If you are still concerned then maybe think of a few other options to have as backups if you change your mind after you see your new daughter.
I think [name_u]Ever[/name_u] is lovely and would make a great name. But like others have suggested it feels a little incomplete (though that’s just my personal preference) you could use it as a nickname for [name_u]Everly[/name_u], [name_f]Beverly[/name_f], [name_f]Genevera[/name_f], [name_f]Reverie[/name_f], [name_f]Severine[/name_f]. But again that’s just my opinion, [name_u]Ever[/name_u] could definitely work as a stand alone name.
My I know a family of six- are [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f], Avalie, [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_u]Tatum[/name_u], and [name_u]Echo[/name_u]. So name your kids individually. And the only name out of place is [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and it’s not that bad. I personally love [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. Some suggestions off of your style if you’re still not convinced-
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
Avalie
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
Thank you for all the responses! It makes me feel slightly better about the name, but i’m still not sure I could use it. I’m definitely not throwing it off the table though. I love it too much to completely disregard it and the fact that my husband likes it is a plus since we have a total of 4 names including [name_u]Ever[/name_u] on our list.
Looks like I am in the minority here, but [name_u]Ever[/name_u] doesn’t work for me. It just doesn’t sound like a name. I also think there could be real issues with the fn/ln combination, especially if the ln is another word name - be sure to repeat the whole name together and make sure you like how it sounds. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Everly[/name_u] nn [name_u]Ever[/name_u]?
I think [name_u]Ever[/name_u] is unique but not too out there.
I especially like the sound of [name_u]Ever[/name_u] with a middle name, like [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_f]Christine[/name_f], [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_f]Johanna[/name_f], etc.
However, I agree with the other berries, a brother and sister named [name_u]Ever[/name_u] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]…? I would probably wonder what happened between those two names.
If you love it then go for it! It is a really cool name.
I like [name_u]Ever[/name_u] too, but the suggestion to name her [name_u]Everly[/name_u] and use [name_u]Ever[/name_u] as her nn is a good one.
I too agree that everyone will have an opposite opinion than you and your husband no matter what name your throwing out there. “If you love it, use it” is a great motto!
I really love the sound of it - and if you guys love it, you should totally go for it.
However - in general, I am not a fan of names that are also words. There’s just too much confusion and you don’t want her first time meeting people to always be like: “[name_u]Ever[/name_u]? Like, the word ever? Hmm.” For instance, I once met a woman through work whose name was Radiance. [name_m]Prior[/name_m] to meeting her, I kept hearing people talk about her, and it threw me off every time. Radiance? Is that a person you guys are talking about? A man or a woman? Is she foreign? (The answer: No. Her parents were hippies.) Obviously there are words that are commonly known as names ([name_u]Mason[/name_u]), but outside of those I am a bit hesitant.
Also love [name_u]Everly[/name_u].
If you go with [name_u]Ever[/name_u], I would do a more normal middle name, so she always has the option of going to a more professional name in the future.
I do not like [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. It’s too trendy and I know it will start getting popular since [name_u]Channing[/name_u] [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] and his wife used it.
If it was up to just me I would use a very classic, feminine, frilly name that would sound wonderful with [name_m]Henry[/name_m] but my husband (who is not [name_m]Henry[/name_m]'s father) has completely opposite taste in names and really dislikes most names that I love. Which explains the extreme difference between [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_u]Ever[/name_u]…
