Top 10 Help

Hello all,

After a few months of gathering names I feel like I’ve come up with my top 10 girl names that I might actually use. However, I don’t feel like the list is finished yet, maybe it’s because I’m name obsessed :joy:.

Anyway here is my top ten. What name would you take out and what would you replace it with? I tend to like names that have a vintage feel to them.

[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Leora[/name_f] (or [name_f]Liora[/name_f] haven’t decided on sp yet)
[name_f]Nelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Regina[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]

Thanks for the help in advance!

Gwendolyn was the one that stuck out the most for me. It is very Welsh to me, almost medieval sounding, the rest have a vintage feel. [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] is a bit more modern than the rest.
Some names you may like
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethan[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
Endelion

I do like [name_f]Edith[/name_f]! Unfortunately my husband does not like it, he says it’s sounds a little too old lady for his preference. Oh well.

While I don’t think they all feel perfectly vintage, I actually think they’re a really good set! They have common elements without feeling homogeneous. [name_f]My[/name_f] only concern is that [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] are a bit matching.

Sylvia is a beautiful name. [name_f]My[/name_f] friend just named her little one [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] so it’s not really usable for us, but so pretty!

Great list! I really like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Leora[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], and [name_f]Sybil[/name_f].
It’s funny because I love [name_u]Lior[/name_u] for a boy, but [name_f]Leora[/name_f] for a girl.
The only changes I would make are: [name_f]Nelle[/name_f], I would prefer [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]/Nelly. [name_f]Regina[/name_f], not for me but maybe you’re just ahead of the game.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]

Lovely list!!

So, if you like names with a vintage feel, I’d take out [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]. [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] feels pretty dated compared to the rest of your list – it’s very '90s to me.

Odette doesn’t seem particularly vintage to me either, but it does fit well with the overall elegant, feminine style of your list. I personally don’t care for [name_f]Leora[/name_f]/Liora, but I still think it fits well with your list. And I agree with @anon68906791 on the spelling.

So, yeah, [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] is really the only odd one out here. Here are alternatives I’d suggest:
[name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Charity[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]

I definitely prefer [name_f]Liora[/name_f] to [name_f]Leora[/name_f]. [name_f]Leora[/name_f] looks like it would be pronounced lay-or-uh.

faves:
[name_f]Liora[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]

neutral:
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]

dislike:
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Nelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Regina[/name_f]

Hi there.

Here are my thoughts-

Bethany-There’s nothing wrong w/this, I just don’t like it. I think it sounds a bit 80s & a bit snobby. I like similar names of [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] maybe?

Cordelia-I like [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] slightly more, because it sounds sweeter & less dramatic. But [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is lovely.

Estelle-This is quite nice. I super love [name_f]Estella[/name_f], but I like [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] too & see no reason not to keep it on your list. It’s smart, elegant & classic.

Gwendolyn-Keep it, but to me [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] looks sleeker.

Helena-I don’t care for this one. The pronunciation seems like it’d be a headache, & I just don’t find it that pretty. I kind of like [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. [name_f]Helen[/name_f] is not my cup of tea either, but I think that it’s still a better fit for your list than [name_f]Helena[/name_f].

Leora-So lovely! I prefer [name_f]Leora[/name_f]. It just looks nicer, but either way. This is soft, a bit exotic, simple yet unique. Feminine, smart, all the good things.

Nelle-I definitely prefer this as a nn, & the ‘e’ at the end looks off. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] or [name_f]Helen[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f] works. I also love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] (hey!) or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].

Odette-I don’t much care for this one. It just sounds heavy. Similar names that I find more pleasant are [name_f]Colette[/name_f], [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] or [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f].

Regina-I don’t love it, but it’s different & not terrible. I can see the appeal.

Sybil-Same as above.

Hope this helps.

Bethany stood out a bit to me

Maybe [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] perhaps?

I’d take out [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] and add [name_f]Pia[/name_f]!

Maybe you would like:
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mable[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

I’m with most people here, [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] is too streamlined compared to the rest of your names.

Maude/Maudie were the first to come to mind. Following:
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
