Interesting list. Both of my middles feature… surprise surprise!
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] were the middle names du jour for my peers; [name_f]Ann/name_f, Ja(y)ne and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Marie[/name_f] strike me as older; and [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f] are certainly the biggest contenders at the moment. [name_u]Rae[/name_u] is on the rise too, I’d say.
In my generation (born in the 80s) the most common middle names by faaaar were [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. I think those are the middle names of almost every girl I know. A variant spelling of my own middle name is on there, but lower down.
In terms of kids now, I know a [name_f]Rose[/name_f], a [name_f]Mae[/name_f], a [name_f]Grace[/name_f], an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but there are a few others that seem popular for babies now too, like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. I wouldn’t be surprised if [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] cracked the top 10 for middles in the not-too-distant future.
I love [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] for middles. In my opionon they can gussy up any name. I know a lot of girls whose middle name is [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. In terms of middles that are going to trend soon I agree with @cece84 about [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and I also think [name_f]Hope[/name_f] , [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] , [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/e and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] will make it on that list one day.
Not an altogether surprising list. I know of plenty with [name_f]Louise[/name_f] for a middle - often [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] - and [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f] seem pretty standard, at least with the people I (being born in the UK, in the 90’s) grew up around. I was always pleased to not have a middle because everyone seemed to have the same ones.
[name_u]Seven[/name_u] of the names are the first names of family members…ranging from born in 1905 to 1991…shows you how classic and timeless they are!
So what is the source for this list? I didn’t think there were stats kept for middle names. What year/years does it cover? It seems suspicious to me that it features so many ties.
It’s UK list, in case you miss it (not sure on that). Most of their data is buried under tons of text. Names that surprise me are [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (very high on the list) and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]…
Not from the UK either, but mine is on there–[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I know lots of people whose middle names are [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], or [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. Nobody with [name_f]Amy[/name_f] as a middle, though, only as a first.
