Top 15

I think I’ve managed to narrow it down to my top 15 names for boys. Thoughts and opinions?

  • [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - “immortal one” - I had known of this one before but never heard it on anyone until I watched The Chilling Adventures of [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]. I really like how it sounds.

  • [name_u]Arden[/name_u] - “valley of the eagle” - The [name_m]Forest[/name_m] of [name_u]Arden[/name_u] is where one of my favourite [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] plays takes place and I also love its nature meaning.

  • [name_u]August[/name_u] - “great” or “magnificent” - A name I used to dislike until I heard it on a boy for the first time. He was a nice, handsome guy I sat next to in high school English class and whenever I see this name around I think of him. I love that its a more masculine month name – also my own birth month!

  • [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] - “hollow” - I’ve liked the sound of this one ever since I first saw it here on Nameberry.

  • [name_u]Corin[/name_u] - “spear” - The name of a character a good friend of mine played when we performed together for the first time. I like the play a lot, the character and how it sounds.

  • [name_u]Darren[/name_u] - “little great one” - This was the first boys name I ever fell in love with and shared with my family (they like it too!) and always planned to give it to my first son.

  • [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] - “universal” - My main association here is Legally Blonde and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is such a great character but aside from that, this name also sounds very handsome and I like its meaning.

  • Emre - “friend” - I fell in love with this name as soon as I first heard it on someone. I looked up the meaning and surprise, I love it! It’s also a nod to my maiden surname and I much prefer this spelling over [name_u]Emery[/name_u].

  • [name_u]Everett[/name_u] - “brave as a wild boar” - I just love everything about this name. [name_m]How[/name_m] it looks, how it sounds, what it means…

  • [name_m]Forest[/name_m] - “woodsman” or “woods” - I love the forest. I grew up hiking and camping with my family and [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] Gump is one of my favourite movies. And there’s also the [name_m]Forest[/name_m] of [name_u]Arden[/name_u] connection.

  • [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] - “strong lord” - A more recent addition to my list, I just like how it looks and sounds.

  • [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] - “dark red” or “fire bird” or “remarkable” - [name_m]Just[/name_m] a cool one I really like the meaning and association of.

  • [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - “little redhead” - I love unisex names for boys and this one might be my favourite of them all.

  • [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - “house steward” or “dispenser of provisions” - While I’m not crazy about the meaning, I love how it looks and sounds. I also love a lot of characters who bear this name.

  • [name_f]Valen[/name_f] - “strong” - I love how elven this one is. It is listed as a girls name here on Nameberry but I like it a lot better for boys.

I really like [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_f]Valen[/name_f].

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is one of my favourite male names. It’s soft and unassuming but still has Greek god undertones from the ambrosia root.

Nameberry also says [name_f]Valen[/name_f] is a variation of [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], so it should be of [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] too, which is a unisex name. It reminds me of [name_u]Van[/name_u] Halen, and Valinor from LotR. That’s a pretty cool combination.

  • [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - “immortal one” - I really like the meaning and sounds, plus the potential nn [name_u]Bo[/name_u]

  • [name_u]Arden[/name_u] - “valley of the eagle” - great literary connection and name

  • [name_u]August[/name_u] - “great” or “magnificent” - love it! Summery and brighr

  • [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] - “hollow” - I really like it pronounced [name_u]Cass[/name_u]-ee-un, less so of [name_m]Cash[/name_m]-un but it’s a great name

  • [name_u]Corin[/name_u] - “spear” - it’s interesting, one I’ll have to think about. There’s something quite mystical and warriorlike about it

  • [name_u]Darren[/name_u] - “little great one” - I really want to like it but it’s one of those where I can’t shake the dates feel (sorry)

  • [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] - “universal” - [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is so cool and soft and intelligent sounding

  • Emre - “friend” - interesting spelling and look! I like the sounds

  • [name_u]Everett[/name_u] - love it! It does sound and look great, all soft but wild

  • [name_m]Forest[/name_m] - "love the earthy feel!

  • [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] -the sounds are lovely and it sounds so gentle

  • [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - I like the literary vibe and the modern feel. Not my fave on your list but a nice enough name

  • [name_f]Valen[/name_f] - interesting surnamey and distinctive feel

  • [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - “immortal one” - I like a [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] reference, and the Greek mythology reference. No would be a sweet nickname.

  • [name_u]Arden[/name_u] - I like it, but don’t have much to say about it

  • [name_u]August[/name_u] - I do like this on a boy, but I prefer it in the middle spot.

  • [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] - [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] is really nice, but I do have a preference for [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. I love how both names look and sound.

  • [name_u]Corin[/name_u] - Not particularly a fan of this name. I can’t really pin it down, it just doesn’t feel right. Maybe as a middle.

  • [name_u]Darren[/name_u] - It’s nice, but maybe a little dated. I’ve never met a [name_u]Darren[/name_u], and all those I know of are American, so maybe it’s not actually dated. It just seems to me like it is.

  • [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] - It reminds me of the main character from the Lego movie. Though that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

  • Emre - Seems like another middle name to me. I like that it’s a nod to your maiden name.

  • [name_u]Everett[/name_u] - I prefer this to [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. Seems a bit more unique and has a nice charm.

  • [name_m]Forest[/name_m] - It’s not my style, but I do really like [name_m]Forest[/name_m], as a first or middle name.

  • [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] - Looks and sounds great. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the mythology association

  • [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] - I prefer [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], as they’re similar themes, but do also like [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]. It reminds me of [name_m]Felix[/name_m], which is sweet.

  • [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - I really like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]

  • [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - Has an association with a not particularly nice person to me, but otherwise it’s a nice name. Though might go up in popularity as people thought it was a possible name for a royal baby, so it might gain some attention.

  • [name_f]Valen[/name_f] - Can’t really same I’m a fan of this one.

Your list is amazing! An incredible compilation of names with fabulous meanings. [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_m]Forest[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] (slightly prefer it for girls or as a middle name), [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] are fantastic. The only names I’m not an huge fan are [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_u]Corin[/name_u] and [name_f]Valen[/name_f]. I would like to suggest: [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], [name_m]Emry[/name_m], [name_u]Amory[/name_u] and Valente/[name_m]Valiant[/name_m].
