I have composed a list of my top 20 boys names and I was hoping you all would help me narrow it down. I am looking for a name that is uncommon but still familiar.
My list consists of (in no particular order):
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Holden[/name]
[name]Kellan[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name] ([name]Gabe[/name])
[name]August[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Edwin[/name]/[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Keaton[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Abram[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Noah[/name] - its on my favorite names list too!
[name]Levi[/name] - its cute! not something i would ever consider… but its still very cute.
[name]Holden[/name] - I like the sound of it, it sounds strong and masculine.
[name]Silas[/name] - not sure how to pronounce, but i like it. its different.
[name]Gabriel[/name] - Cute! love the nn [name]Gabe[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] - Cute too! But [name]Miles[/name] nn [name]Milo[/name] would age well in my opinion.
[name]Jasper[/name] (its cute but i’m not sure if this would age well…)
[name]Josiah[/name] - Its nice
[name]Isaac[/name] - Its nice
[name]Simon[/name] - So cute! reminds me of a cute little nerd. Lol
The rest are either, OK , not my style or just strange. (in my opinion)
[name]Noah[/name] – love [name]Noah[/name]. You might also go with [name]Noam[/name], if you want something less common than [name]Noah[/name].
[name]Levi[/name] – I like [name]Levi[/name], prn the Jewish/Hebrew way, [name]Lev[/name](short e)-ee or [name]Lay[/name]-vee. [name]Do[/name] not like it prn [name]Lee[/name]-vie.
[name]Malachi[/name]-- [name]Love[/name] [name]Malachi[/name]. It’s a strong Biblical name and still rather rare. There’s also the Irish [name]Malachy[/name] with a different prn.
[name]Atticus[/name] – this is way too trendy. He was a great character, but honestly.
[name]Holden[/name] – again, [name]Holden[/name] Caulfield was a whiny brat. I don’t care for naming children after obvious fictional characters.
[name]Kellan[/name] – this is very trendy right now. [name]Keir[/name] might be a more uncommon choice.
[name]Silas[/name] – while also trendy (at least on this site), it fits with the Biblical names. You could also go with [name]Silvio[/name] or [name]Silvano[/name].
[name]Gabriel[/name] ([name]Gabe[/name]) – This is fairly common where I live. I still love it.
[name]August[/name] – This is a great name. I’m so tired of hearing [name]Austin[/name]. And there’s [name]Gus[/name], [name]Gusty[/name], Auggie, [name]Augusto[/name], [name]Augustine[/name], Augustino, etc.
[name]Arthur[/name] – I have always loved [name]Arthur[/name]. The one semi-fictional name I really like.
[name]Milo[/name] – This is a terrific name. It’s not a nn for [name]Miles[/name], although [name]Miles[/name] is a good name too.
[name]Gideon[/name] – I wanted to name my son this but my husband said no. [name]Gidon[/name] is the current Israeli version.
[name]Jasper[/name] – is a great name, making a comeback. Other more uncommon J names could be Joram, [name]Jotham[/name], or [name]Jarvis[/name].
[name]Edwin[/name]/[name]Edmund[/name] – I much prefer [name]Edmund[/name] to [name]Edwin[/name]. It’s a strong, classic, royal name.
[name]Josiah[/name] – is a great Biblical name. [name]Joss[/name] and Jossi, even [name]Sy[/name] for nns if you don’t like [name]Jo[/name].
[name]Isaac[/name] – again, another favourite of mine.
[name]Keaton[/name] – as in [name]Buster[/name] [name]Keaton[/name]? No.
[name]Linus[/name] – I prefer the Royalist [name]Lion[/name] or the medieval [name]Lionel[/name] to [name]Linus[/name].
[name]Abram[/name] – I prefer the Hebrew version, [name]Avram[/name], with its nn [name]Avi[/name].
[name]Simon[/name] – I love the name [name]Simon[/name]. There’s also [name]Simeon[/name], which is even more rare in the US.
[name]Noah[/name] - love this one, but it has been getting a lot if attention/popularity recently.
[name]Levi[/name] - is alright. But is a potential trendy name as two-syllable names for boys are big.
[name]Malachi[/name] - no thank you. All I can picture is an old man.
[name]Atticus[/name] - love [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Finch[/name] the character, but I have a hard time seeing this one on a boy/teenager.
[name]Holden[/name] - love this one, though may be similar to the last name trend. I know a Holman.
[name]Kellan[/name] - love this one! Very off-the-beaten-path but in a good way. Though I do wonder if it sounds too feminine?
[name]Silas[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Silas[/name], and briefly considered it as a middle name for [name]James[/name], but it is a) not a family name and all our middle names are family names and b) too much “s” sound with [name]James[/name].
[name]Gabriel[/name] ([name]Gabe[/name]) - I don’t love this name, perhaps because it always makes me think of [name]Gabrielle[/name]/[name]Gabriella[/name]?
[name]August[/name] - is meh.
[name]Arthur[/name] - love this one! Very distinguished and doesn’t get much attention.
[name]Milo[/name] - a pet’s name
[name]Gideon[/name] - is growing on me
[name]Jasper[/name] - alright, but one of the Twilight crowd.
[name]Edwin[/name]/[name]Edmund[/name] - hate [name]Edwin[/name], [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]. He’s so hamdsome and distinguished. And the nickname [name]Teddy[/name] is adorable!
[name]Josiah[/name] - is a leetle out there for me. But I do love the nickname [name]Josie[/name].
[name]Isaac[/name] - I have negative personal associations wih this one, so I don’t feel right to comment on it.
[name]Keaton[/name] - I can see this one becoming attractive with the last name trend.
[name]Linus[/name] - was he kid who always carried his blanket around and sniffled on Snoopy.
[name]Abram[/name] - I love the sound of this one, but I can’t help but feel as if something is missing from it.
[name]Simon[/name] - I’ve grown to love [name]Simon[/name]. Great choice!
[name]Noah[/name] - Nice enough but very popular
[name]Levi[/name] - Although a Biblical name, it’s now become more of a brand or celebrity name.
[name]Malachi[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this underappreciated name from the Bible. It has a really jaunty sound to it that is appealing.
[name]Atticus[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the literary connection but this name is very trendy at the moment.
[name]Holden[/name] - Strong and masculine yet doesn’t overdo it! It’s also one of the few names I like that ends in “en”.
[name]Kellan[/name] - Trendy “K” names are not my taste!
[name]Silas[/name] - One of my favorite books is “[name]Silas[/name] Marner” by [name]George[/name] [name]Eliot[/name] so this name means a lot to me. It’s literary and Biblical. [name]Love[/name] it!
[name]Gabriel[/name] - The Archangel in the Bible and one of my faves.
[name]August[/name] - This name has grown on me and I like the nn [name]Gus[/name] too!
[name]Arthur[/name] - A old and wonderful name of a mythological king.
[name]Milo[/name] - Spunky, quirky and filled with energy! This one sparkles for me!
[name]Gideon[/name] - Ok but I always hear the horsey phrase “giddyup” .
[name]Jasper[/name] - I love this name. It sounds very British to me and I like British names.
[name]Edwin[/name]/[name]Edmund[/name] - Prefer the Anglo-[name]Saxon[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] to [name]Edwin[/name]. [name]Edmund[/name] is a great alternative to the more popular [name]Edward[/name].
[name]Josiah[/name] - A Biblical gem
[name]Isaac[/name] - Quite possibly my fave on your list. This name has everything - history, strength and masculinity.
[name]Keaton[/name] - See [name]Kellan[/name].
[name]Linus[/name] - Makes me think of [name]Charlie[/name] [name]Brown[/name] and the gang.
[name]Abram[/name] - [name]Abraham[/name]'s original name. Very cool. It can even be shorter with the nn [name]Bram[/name].
[name]Simon[/name] - I’m a recent convert to this name. Fine choice.
