1 [name_m]Harry[/name_m] - this name just doesn’t work in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] where its pronounced “hairy”.
2 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - This name still retains its British sophistication. Perhaps that’s why this Anglophile finds it so appealing!
3 [name_m]Jack[/name_m] - so spunk for a boy and really cool for a man! It has it all!
4 [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] - I should say something like “only as a nickname” but [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] just feels so friendly and approachable that I can’t resist it. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] would be a gorgeous brother duo.
5 [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] - My great love for [name_m]Jake[/name_m] spreads all the way to the longer version of the name.
6 [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] - Classic, traditional and timeless. It’s trend proof so it never goes out of style.
7 [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] - much too childish for a grown man. The film character wasn’t that great either.
8 [name_u]Riley[/name_u] - better on a boy than girl
9 [name_m]William[/name_m] - Never a favourite of mine
10 [name_u]James[/name_u] - A fine name but not a fave
11 [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] - I had a huge crush on a TV character named [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] when I was a girl so I guess somethings don’t change over time!
12 [name_m]George[/name_m] - a fine name but not a fave
13 [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - strong and classic
14 [name_u]Noah[/name_u] - A great name that ages well from spunky childhood to maturity
15 [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - classic Biblical boys name
16 [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] - Nothing wrong with this Biblical name but it just lacks the appeal of [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] for some reason.
17 [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - I read [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] Wilde as a child so I love this one!
18 [name_u]Max[/name_u] - OK but I like longer versions like [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] or [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m].
19 [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] - I’m not Muslim so this choice would be strange for me.
20 [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - majestic and inspiring
I love [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_m]George[/name_m]. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is a long held love of mine.
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u] should be [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] nn [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] imo.
Same for [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]/[name_m]Charles[/name_m].
I’ll start off by saying I’m not massively into nickname names as given names
1 [name_m]Harry[/name_m] - probably my one exception to the NN rule, as its a well established name in it’s own right. I also adore cheeky [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. I can’t used unfortunately as it would be too similar to my nephew [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
2 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - I think this name works well on children and adults alike. A good choice.
3 [name_m]Jack[/name_m] - Now technically [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a NN for [name_m]John[/name_m]. But I do like this. It has a laid back vibe.
4 [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] - Cute on a baby, but not suitable for an adult man. Prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
5 [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] - I love this name!
6 [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] - Apart from it being my ex’s name, I do quite like it.
7 [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] - see [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. Prefer an [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] any day.
8 [name_u]Riley[/name_u] - I don’t like this, can’t put my finger on why. I think its because of the word ‘Rile’. It riles me. ha.
9 [name_m]William[/name_m] - Classic. Okay.
10 [name_u]James[/name_u] - A family name for both me and my husband, we may well use it.
11 [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] - I love J names, but the name sounds a bit clumsy to me when spoken.
12 [name_m]George[/name_m] - My nephew’s name. He came along just before [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m], my sister in law was a little miffed when the royal baby was born. I love the name.
13 [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - I do really like this, although I know its an established name with history etc, it just feels a little more modern but still solid and traditional.
14 [name_u]Noah[/name_u] - I don’t like this. Makes me think of the ark.
15 [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - A nice name, but I don’t like [name_u]Sam[/name_u], and undoubtedly this would end up being what most people refer to him as.
16 [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] - My brothers name. I like it. He gets [name_u]Danny[/name_u] a lot, but I don’t mind.
17 [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - Now this is cute. Although my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] does have a dog called [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] :S
18 [name_u]Max[/name_u] - I like this, but again prefer a longer form like [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m].
19 [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] - Popular with people of Muslim heritage for obvious reasons, so I wouldn’t personally use it as I’m from a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] background and people may see it as offensive. We have an athlete called [name_u]Mo[/name_u] [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] (short for [name_m]Mohamed[/name_m]) and I like it on him.
20 [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - I love this. Getting to love a lot of short three letter boys names. I’m a massive fan of [name_u]Rex[/name_u].
1 [name_m]Harry[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Harry[/name_m] better in a British accent than an American one! I prefer it as a nickname, but nephew Henry goes by Hank which I like a touch more.
2 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - I really like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], but it’s one of those names that feels less “special” now that it’s popular
3 [name_m]Jack[/name_m] - My nephew, named after my grandpa, is a [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. It’s popular but I can’t hate.
4 [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] - Another nephew is a [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] (spelled differently), not [name_m]Charles[/name_m], so I can’t hate this either! I do prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m] as a given name, myself.
5 [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] - Yawwn.
6 [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] - I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] but absolutely can’t use it. Shame.
7 [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] - So cute - but I like [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] so much that just [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] is sort of a letdown.
8 [name_u]Riley[/name_u] - I had no idea this was so popular as a boy name in [name_f]England[/name_f]/[name_m]Wales[/name_m]! It feels like a “kid name” to me, though, not a man’s name.
9 [name_m]William[/name_m] - OK
10 [name_u]James[/name_u] - I feel like every third baby boy I know is named [name_u]James[/name_u]. The other two have [name_u]James[/name_u] as their middle names.
11 [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] - [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] always feels like it belongs in the 90s to me.
12 [name_m]George[/name_m] - one of my favorites, if not my very favorite, on the boy list!
13 [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - OK
14 [name_u]Noah[/name_u] - OK
15 [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - Yes, I really do like [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]!
16 [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] - Like [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] feels boring and blank to me.
17 [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - I hope this doesn’t mean [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] will go to much higher in the US! Great name. Cute on a kid, rakish on a young man, dignified on an adult.
18 [name_u]Max[/name_u] - Yet ANOTHER nephew is a [name_u]Max[/name_u] (Maxwell, really). [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Max[/name_u].
19 [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] - [name_f]Do[/name_f] these countries combine spellings in their rankings? There are so many spelling variations of [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] that if one of them has risen to the top 20, the name is probably much more popular when you consider [name_m]Mohammed[/name_m], etc.
20 [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - Like [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], I hope this isn’t poised to skyrocket in the US more than it already has. Bouncy, short names ending in -o are some of my favorites for boys - [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m], etc.
For me the best out of those are [name_u]Noah[/name_u], maybe [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], and I quite like [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but only as a nn.
I would take this over the US top 20 any day. I adore [name_u]Riley[/name_u] on a boy, so seeing it at #8 is thrilling. I love [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
1 [name_m]Harry[/name_m] - The harry potter nerd inside me will always love this name
2 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - I love the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], It’s one of my favorites
3 [name_m]Jack[/name_m] - Despite [name_m]Jack[/name_m] being popular, I don’t mind the name, its very ordinary though
4 [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] - I love [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] for both boys and girls
5 [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] - I’ve never liked [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
6 [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] - Reminds me of [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] the train
7 [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like it, I always think of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Allen[/name_m]'s song alfie
8 [name_u]Riley[/name_u] - I don’t like riley either, I think its girly
9 [name_m]William[/name_m] - Eh, plain
10 [name_u]James[/name_u] - I love [name_u]James[/name_u], but hate all of the NN’s ([name_m]Jim[/name_m], jimmy, [name_u]Jamie[/name_u])
11 [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] - dislike
12 [name_m]George[/name_m] - I like [name_m]George[/name_m] a lot, I would call a little boy georgie
13 [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - not fond of ethan
14 [name_u]Noah[/name_u] - not fond of noah either
15 [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - I prefer [name_m]Samson[/name_m]
16 [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like daniel
17 [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - I think of the trash man from sesame street
18 [name_u]Max[/name_u] - I think of a dog
19 [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] - Not a fan
20 [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - I like leo a lot
1 [name_m]Harry[/name_m] - [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]!
2 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - so handsome, and somewhat unheard of where I live.
3 [name_m]Jack[/name_m] - classic
4 [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] - love this, [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]/[name_m]Charles[/name_m] is a family name for me
5 [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] - never liked this, I know about 9 [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]'s
6 [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] - one of my favourites!
7 [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] - wonderful! I often think of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] or [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Caine[/name_m].
8 [name_u]Riley[/name_u] - never seen the appeal here
9 [name_m]William[/name_m] - lovely, but I know too many little [name_m]William[/name_m]'s
10 [name_u]James[/name_u] - lovely!
11 [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] - one of my favourites!
12 [name_m]George[/name_m] - all I think of is [name_m]George[/name_m] of the Jungle
13 [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - I really like this
14 [name_u]Noah[/name_u] - forever banned in my family thanks to a few relatives
15 [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - adore [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]!
16 [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] - always been a favourite, had I been a boy, my MN would’ve been [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] after [name_u]Danny[/name_u] Zuko from Grease, haha
17 [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] - all I think of is the garbage loving, worm keeping [name_f]Sesame[/name_f] [name_m]Street[/name_m] character
18 [name_u]Max[/name_u] - I know of a few devilish little [name_u]Max[/name_u]'s so not for me
19 [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] - I can never spell this correctly…
20 [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - bit too bland for me.
