[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - it’s a nice name, but I’ve never been a huge fan. I’ve always found it to sound really fusty and dusty and old-fashioned. I adore [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], though.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - already commented on this, but [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]‘s one of my favorite names in the whole world. I would love to have a little [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f] - ugh. It’s so beyond dated and overused in the US that I still don’t see how it’s still popular in the UK. I’m so tired of hearing it that I can’t really see it apart from its popularity. I remember in middle school that I went to school with a [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], though, and I’d never before come across it, and I remember thinking it was one of those trashy made-up African American names (I’m ashamed!). I thought it was pretty, but I just can’t stand it now. It’s just had too much use here.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - it’s sweet, but I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] more. I’m getting over being tired of it, though–it’s a lovely name.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] - it’s popular, but I still adore it. [name_f]Lilies[/name_f] have special significance with my grandmother, so it’s the most sentimental name I’ve ever come across. I’d love to have a [name_f]Lily[/name_f] one day, but I rather think I won’t. Maybe one day I’ll fit it in the MN spot.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - already commented on this, so I won’t go as in-depth, but I find it both really trendy and too overtly sexy/exotic. I much prefer just [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - pretty. Already commented on this one, too.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - I’ve been thinking about this today, about how lovely it is, and wondering if I could find room for it on my own list. I do really love it, but I have always found it really hard to imagine someone with the name.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - love the meaning, and I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] as a nn (or as a part of the double-barrel [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]), but I am not really a fan of it on its own. I vastly prefer [name_f]Zofia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]/[name_f]Zosia[/name_f].
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I already commented on this one, too. I like it a lot, but I like the more toned-down [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
[name_f]Evie[/name_f] - I can’t see it standing alone, but I do love [name_f]Evie[/name_f]! I have [name_f]Eva[/name_f] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] on my own list.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - I like it quite a bit. My grandmother is [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], and I don’t like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] at all, so I’ve considered [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] as a way to honor her. It seems to have a similar old-fashioned vibe, and sounds so similar ([name_f]Ruthie[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] could be mistaken for each other when said aloud!), but it never makes it to my list. Still like it, though.
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - och, dear, dear [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]! I adore her. Her association with Veteran’s [name_u]Day[/name_u]/Remembrance [name_u]Day[/name_u], the symbolism of veterans (my grandpa, dad, and brother are all USAF veterans), the flowers (which have a sentimental tie to my mom), and Papi is what I call my dad. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though we’re not Hispanic at all.
I would love to use [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], but my dad wants to be called [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] by his future grandchildren, so I feel like this is a no-go. I would love to have a little [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f].
I think it’s so spunky and girly and unexpected. I adore it. I suppose I’ll have to settle for it as a mn with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] instead…
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] - I love it. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is my grandmother’s mn, and it’s the only name I’m 100% set on using. It would take a miracle for my first daughter NOT to have [name_f]Grace[/name_f] somewhere in her name.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - nice, but I like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] even less than [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] and [name_f]Zofia[/name_f] and [name_f]Zosia[/name_f], though…
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - I hate it, honestly. I went to school with a [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] that was quite mean to me most of my way through middle school and high school, and I just always associated it with her. It’s not a bad name, but I don’t like it as a FN at all, and I only like it as a middle in very special occasions (I remember liking [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] once, but I can’t think of another time where I liked [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]!).
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - adore, adore, adore, adore! [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is my favorite girls’ name, and I would be so heartsick if I never got to have a little [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. I love it so much, and I adore the nns [name_u]Issy[/name_u] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] (even [name_f]Ella[/name_f]). I adore everything about her. I’m so shocked at the difference in population here and there, though. #17? It ranks #126 here. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any statistics, as far as numbers go? Like how many Isabelles were born in 2012 in the UK? There were nearly 2500 Isabelles born here in 2012–I wonder if it correlates at all to the numbers there?
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] - love it. If [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] wasn’t my favorite, [name_f]Ella[/name_f] would for sure be on my short list ([name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]). I love it.
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - I have never understood the appeal of this. I know some names just catch on in the UK that don’t here, but I just don’t find [name_f]Freya[/name_f] appealing in the least. Then again, I don’t like a lot of “F” names…
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - love it. It’s on my own short list. I adore the nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f].
