What are your thoughts on the UK top 20, again, trying to take popularity out of the equation. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like them? What do/ don’t you like about them? [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to skip the ones you’ve already commented on in lieseysmom’s thread.

  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f]
  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f]
  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f]
  20. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f].

I quite like everything except [name_f]Emily[/name_f] (I’m neutral) and [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] (I dislike it). I’m not crazy about any of these names, though. My favorites are [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].

  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] – I love this name so much
  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] – I love just about any name that has a V in it
  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] – Seems a bit dated to me
  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] – I love the sound of the name, though I feel I’ve heard too much of it
  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] – Can’t go wrong with a lily
  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] – Pretty, but blends in with the other [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f], etc
  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] – Pretty, but too short for me
  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] – I love the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Vintage and pretty
  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] – [name_f]Love[/name_f] the meaning, and sound of [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. It’s feminine without going over the top
  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] – So many different nicknames that can be made of this name. I love the sound and meaning of it
  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] – [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is great by it’s self or as a nickname
  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] – I have an Aunt with the name [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], and I can’t stand her. So I don’t like this name
  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] – I think the name is cute and pretty, though I couldn’t ever bring myself to use it. I tried to name a cat this, and couldn’t even see myself name a cute this. But I’d love it on someone else
  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] – This name always just bored me
  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] – I like it just the same as [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] – I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name, it’s on my list of girl names, and normally I don’t like popular names, but [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is so beautiful to me.
  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] – I like this a little bit more than [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], I think if I named a baby [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]… I would just end up calling her [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] – Simple and pretty, though not my taste.
  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] – I like it pronounced “Fray - uh.” I think it’s super pretty for a girl.
  20. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] – I have an Aunt named [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] that is awesome. So I really like this name

[name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] - I’m a bit surprised these are still ranked so high, particularly [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]. A lot of the time people say that name trends start in the UK and move to the US, but that’s oversimplifying. I have seen names like [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] stay popular in the UK after their popularity has slipped stateside.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - Talk about a fast riser! My comments about [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] notwithstanding, this makes me think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] will get even bigger than it already is in the US. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] really does have a lot of broad appeal - I get it. Sweet and sophisticated at the same time.

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - I like seeing [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] ranked ahead of [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are pretty, but the image that [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] conjures up for me is much nicer than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - I guess I prefer [name_m]French[/name_m] to Latinate forms, because [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] sounds so much fresher than [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] to me!

[name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - Holy Nickname-Names, UK! It’s so funny that a lot of (non-name-obsessed) Americans think that typical British names are posh royal names, when your average little British girl is FAR more likely to have an old fashioned, comfy-casual nickname. I prefer [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as a nickname, but these are both sweet.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - Another surprise - I knew it was more popular in the UK, but not by this much - I expected to see it further down the top 50 or 100. When I bring [name_f]Freya[/name_f] up to non-name-nerds in the US, I’m usually met with a puzzled look and a halting “that’s… nice,” unless maybe they’ve heard of [name_f]Freja[/name_f] Beha. It’s a pleasant surprise to see a consonant-heavy name (that heavy FR- blend!) highly ranked. I like these more grounded, “clunkier” names, but so much of the charts is made up of the super-smooth [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Ayanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] type names.

Interesting how most of these names aren’t the ones/the type that come to mind when I think “British names”- I think more along the lines of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], etc. I do see a lot of that kind in the Telegraph birth announcements though, when I have the time to let myself get sucked into reading them!

And I’m not fond of nickname names (but personally I wouldn’t use nicknames for future kids at all unless they asked to be called one when they were old enough).

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]- nice, classic, but doesn’t do much for me
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]- I love the Shakespearean connection and the fun, upbeat sound
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]- numerical popularity doesn’t bother me much, but I personally knew/know at least six or seven so I’m kind of tired of it
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]- I know a lot of Emilys too, but since it’s classic and literary (and I knew a really cool girl named this, who went by [name_f]Emily[/name_f] half the time and an unrelated nickname the other half) I quite like it
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]- sweet and dainty, but I’m not fond of “mini-names”
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]- spunky and a bit sassy
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]- this always seemed a bit dumpy to me for some reason
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]- fun, modern, feminine with just a bit of frill
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]- [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] feels more complete, but both are classy and graceful
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]- pretty, frilly, girly
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]- again, not fond of mini-names or names ending with the “ee” sound, they seem childish to me
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]- same as [name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]- a cute nickname for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], but I don’t think it stands well alone
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]- for some reason this sounds harsh to me, even though it has a nice meaning
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]- see [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]- I have a huge aversion to a lot of names with a long O sound, especially the “lo” sound which makes me think of the word “slow”
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]- a more buttoned-up and prim [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]- sweet as a nickname, rather insubstantial on its own
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]- the goddess is a nice reference, but I’m not fond of the sound
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]- my favourite on the list  classic (perhaps even “core classic”); elegant and royal but also down-to-earth; tons of great namesakes and associations from a variety of fields

  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] – I love this! I’ve always loved this, even more than [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. It’s so dainty and feminine, but still has a bit of spunk taken from [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Earhart[/name_f].
  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] – I’ve never liked this name. I have only bad associations from trashy to bossy.
  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] – I would like to find this pretty, and I used to as a kid, but I am realizing I just don’t like the J sound very much.
  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] – Pretty.
  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] – Pretty, but a little too cutesy. Plus, I knew of a cat named [name_f]Lily[/name_f] so it’s permanent a pet name to me now…
  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] – I love this! [name_f]Love[/name_f] it, love it. (I wish it wasn’t so popular in the States.) I like it the most from the [name_f]Ave[/name_f]/[name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Eva[/name_f] bunch.
  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] – Adorable, but I think I think I prefer it as a nickname to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. But I like it.
  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] – NO. I do NOT get this name. AT ALL.
  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] – I know it’s a name on its own, but I prefer it as a nickname to [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. But I also new a dog named [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], so it’s kind of a pet name to me as well…
  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] – It’s pretty, but too cutesy. I feel this way about most -belle names, and I prefer the -bel versions.
  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] – No. Only a nickname, and I don’t even like it at that.
  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] – Super adorable. But I’m biased since it is my grandmother’s name which I would like to use someday.
  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] – I really like this as a nickname to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I proposed it to my fiance, and he couldn’t get past its similarities to papi and papa.
  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] – [name_f]Love[/name_f] this, but, like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], it’s a dear dear family member’s name which I would love to use to honor them.
  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] – I like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. Well, no I don’t. I don’t know. I want to like Sophia? But I find it cutesy like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I think Teen Mom ruined it for me.
  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] – I like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. Not enough to use it, but it’s cute. I find it a bit unsubstantial on a person, though. (But maybe that’s because I almost named a pet [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]…)
  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] – Eh. See [name_f]Isabella[/name_f].
  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] – Only as a nickname. And it’s kinda overly cutesy at that.
  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] – See [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
  20. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] – LOOOOOOVE [name_f]CHARLOTTE[/name_f]!

Overall, I find the UK top 20 way more exciting than the US’s!

I would take the UK top 20 over the US top 20 any day.

Not fond: [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f]

Neutral: [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (mainly because I love [name_f]Eve[/name_f] so much), [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/a, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

Really enjoy: [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]

My faves are in bold below.

  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - still a lovely choice but I’ve gone off it lately
  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - nothing excites me about this name anymore
  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] - dated
  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] - a fine name but overused
  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - too sweet to resist this flower name!
  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] - pretty but trendy
  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - flighty
  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] - ok but trendy
  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - I think this [name_m]French[/name_m] version is more friendlier than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].
  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I’m not into this frilly version of the name
  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] - too nickname-y and cutesy to use as a full name
  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - spunky and sassy
  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - better in the middle spot
  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] - simplicity is beautiful!
  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - I prefer just [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - ok but I wouldn’t use it
  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - I prefer other spellings like [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] - not a fan
  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] - soft, feminine and otherworldly
  20. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - a classic choice
  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - such a gorgeous name, I’m always surprised when I see longer names topping a list
  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I’ve never really been a fan of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] - the most surprising one, it still has got a 80s / 90s vibe
  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] - a bit boring
  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - sweet but has become boring
  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] - I don’t love it, it’s cute though
  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - Again, too boring
  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] - pretty, it’s sounds very sophisticated
  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - love this and prefer it over [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - while beautfiul this is overused in every country (same goes for [name_f]Lily[/name_f] & [name_f]Emily[/name_f])
  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] - the first real nickname, I’m surprised it’s [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and not [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - love it
  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - screams [name_m]Britain[/name_m] to me (not in a bad way), it’s quite nice
  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] - never really been a fan
  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - not a fan
  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - beautfiul
  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] - love it, even if it’s so uber popular everywhere
  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] - not a fan
  20. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - nice but nothing too special (to me)

I much prefer the British top name to the American list

Kind of fun for me as I am in the US, so some are popular here, while others are not.

I love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] (but more as a nickname), [name_f]Freya[/name_f] (SO would never go for it), and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
I like, but probably wouldn’t use [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Mia[/name_f] as a nn for it), [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
I don’t care for [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].
I really dislike [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f].

I knew this was a good idea!

  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] – Sweet and pretty, though not something I’d use.
  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] – I have never liked this name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] not see the appeal at all.
  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] – I’m US, so this is terribly dated to me.
  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] – Sweet, yet little girly. I got tired of it.
  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] – Very pretty and sweet. I understand why it is popping up everywhere.
  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] – Really just not the type of name I like.
  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] – I don’t get this name. I said in my thread it sounds too much like ME!!!-uh
  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] – I think if I knew one it could grow on me, but I’m not sure about it.
  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] – I prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but this does have a cute spunk.
  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] – Overblown to me, and I usually like long names. [name_m]Just[/name_m] sounds like you are trying too hard.
  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] – Cute but not my style.
  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] – Have loved this since I was a little girl. So charming!
  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] – This is a dog’s name to me!
  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] – It’s so gorgeous. Overused in the middle spot in the US, but I picture a beautiful little girl who grows into a strong confident woman.
  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] – Beautiful, warm, and smart!
  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] – I liked this years ago, then got bored with it, but am starting to like it again. It’s cute.
  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] – I like it better than [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], but for a name that should be my style, it just isn’t.
  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] – It’s pretty but I always feel it’s missing something.
  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] – [name_f]Love[/name_f] this!
  20. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] – Sweet name.
  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a fine name, but it’s boring and lackluster to me now. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is my favorite variant of the name. It adds that [name_m]French[/name_m] flair that I love. (6/10)

  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is a nice name that I actually like. It’s feminine and sweet, with a little edge to it. The only down-side is that it’s the name of that little pig on TV (8/10)

  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] is a name that I don’t like, and I never have. It’s just very boring and bland. And it’s got the “sick” syllable (3/10)

  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is sweet and girly, but it’s just too plain. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] & [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] are similar names that pack a much stronger punch (4/10)

  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f]'s cute. It’s sweet, soft, short, and very girly. However, I’m not too in love with it because, again, it’s very simple. Maybe it’s the double “l” sound as well. I do like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] & [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] a lot more. (6/10)

  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] I like, but I don’t love. It’s very sweet and pretty, feminine and elegant. My only qualm is that it’s too short. [name_f]Avia[/name_f], on the other hand, is gorgeous. I love it. (6/10)

  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] I love. I’ve always had a thing for this name, since day 1. My fiance and I would totally use it if it weren’t so overused. (9/10)

  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is okay. It’s feminine and sweet, and didn’t really make an entrance until a few years back. The only problem I have with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is how common it is in my own life. I know, like, 10 people named [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. I can’t use it. (6/10)

  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is an alright name, but reminds me of “soapy.” I’m not too big of a fan, even though I love the [name_m]French[/name_m] AnneSophie & [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. (5/10)

  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is an okay name with a rich history. The only thing preventing me from liking it too much is that it sounds like “Is a [name_f]Bella[/name_f],” like “Is a beauty.” I don’t know, I’m not a fan. (5/10)

  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is ADORABLE. It reminds me of the lovely [name_f]Evita[/name_f] Peron, who I’ve loved since I was little. (8/10)

  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]'s okay. I’m not really a fan of gem names (except [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]) and I had a girl named [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] in my class and the teacher kept calling her “Rubby.” Really ruined it for me. (4/10)

  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is a name I love. Super fresh, spunky, fun & exotic. (9/10)

  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is alright. Another virtue name, a filler name. (5/10)

  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] I love. Very feminine and soft. I love the “-ph” spelling, too. I’m not a fan of “[name_f]Sofia[/name_f].” (9/10)

  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is one of my top Anglo names. I love it so much. So very [name_m]French[/name_m], adorable, fun, mysterious, and very sharp. If only I could use it, it would be the name of my firstborn. (10/10)

  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is alright. Again, same associations as [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] but I do like this one more when spelled “[name_f]Isobel[/name_f].” (6/10)

  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] looks like a fella. I’ve never had a thing for this name. It’s too short, it’s bland. It’s everything I don’t want. (2/10)

  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] charms the pants off of me. Very, very, very cute and sharp. I adore it. The first time I heard this was on a TV documentary, and just recently a dear friend of mine delivered daughter [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]. I adore it. (9/10)

  20. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is very sweet and elegant. A true classic. That said, I’m not too big of a fan. (7/10)

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - it’s a nice name, but I’ve never been a huge fan. I’ve always found it to sound really fusty and dusty and old-fashioned. I adore [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], though.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - already commented on this, but [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]‘s one of my favorite names in the whole world. I would love to have a little [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f] - ugh. It’s so beyond dated and overused in the US that I still don’t see how it’s still popular in the UK. I’m so tired of hearing it that I can’t really see it apart from its popularity. I remember in middle school that I went to school with a [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], though, and I’d never before come across it, and I remember thinking it was one of those trashy made-up African American names (I’m ashamed!). I thought it was pretty, but I just can’t stand it now. It’s just had too much use here.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - it’s sweet, but I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] more. I’m getting over being tired of it, though–it’s a lovely name.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] - it’s popular, but I still adore it. [name_f]Lilies[/name_f] have special significance with my grandmother, so it’s the most sentimental name I’ve ever come across. I’d love to have a [name_f]Lily[/name_f] one day, but I rather think I won’t. Maybe one day I’ll fit it in the MN spot.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - already commented on this, so I won’t go as in-depth, but I find it both really trendy and too overtly sexy/exotic. I much prefer just [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - pretty. Already commented on this one, too.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - I’ve been thinking about this today, about how lovely it is, and wondering if I could find room for it on my own list. I do really love it, but I have always found it really hard to imagine someone with the name.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - love the meaning, and I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] as a nn (or as a part of the double-barrel [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]), but I am not really a fan of it on its own. I vastly prefer [name_f]Zofia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]/[name_f]Zosia[/name_f].
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I already commented on this one, too. I like it a lot, but I like the more toned-down [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
[name_f]Evie[/name_f] - I can’t see it standing alone, but I do love [name_f]Evie[/name_f]! I have [name_f]Eva[/name_f] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] on my own list.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - I like it quite a bit. My grandmother is [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], and I don’t like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] at all, so I’ve considered [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] as a way to honor her. It seems to have a similar old-fashioned vibe, and sounds so similar ([name_f]Ruthie[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] could be mistaken for each other when said aloud!), but it never makes it to my list. Still like it, though.
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - och, dear, dear [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]! I adore her. Her association with Veteran’s [name_u]Day[/name_u]/Remembrance [name_u]Day[/name_u], the symbolism of veterans (my grandpa, dad, and brother are all USAF veterans), the flowers (which have a sentimental tie to my mom), and Papi is what I call my dad. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though we’re not Hispanic at all. I would love to use [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], but my dad wants to be called [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] by his future grandchildren, so I feel like this is a no-go. I would love to have a little [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]. :frowning: I think it’s so spunky and girly and unexpected. I adore it. I suppose I’ll have to settle for it as a mn with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] instead…
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] - I love it. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is my grandmother’s mn, and it’s the only name I’m 100% set on using. It would take a miracle for my first daughter NOT to have [name_f]Grace[/name_f] somewhere in her name.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - nice, but I like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] even less than [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] and [name_f]Zofia[/name_f] and [name_f]Zosia[/name_f], though…
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - I hate it, honestly. I went to school with a [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] that was quite mean to me most of my way through middle school and high school, and I just always associated it with her. It’s not a bad name, but I don’t like it as a FN at all, and I only like it as a middle in very special occasions (I remember liking [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] once, but I can’t think of another time where I liked [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]!).
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - adore, adore, adore, adore! [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is my favorite girls’ name, and I would be so heartsick if I never got to have a little [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. I love it so much, and I adore the nns [name_u]Issy[/name_u] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] (even [name_f]Ella[/name_f]). I adore everything about her. I’m so shocked at the difference in population here and there, though. #17? It ranks #126 here. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any statistics, as far as numbers go? Like how many Isabelles were born in 2012 in the UK? There were nearly 2500 Isabelles born here in 2012–I wonder if it correlates at all to the numbers there?
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] - love it. If [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] wasn’t my favorite, [name_f]Ella[/name_f] would for sure be on my short list ([name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]). I love it.
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - I have never understood the appeal of this. I know some names just catch on in the UK that don’t here, but I just don’t find [name_f]Freya[/name_f] appealing in the least. Then again, I don’t like a lot of “F” names…
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - love it. It’s on my own short list. I adore the nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f].

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I don’t mind [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

But I dislike these ones:

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] but really dislike [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. It just seems trendy and I feel it will become the next [name_u]Tracey[/name_u], [name_f]Sheila[/name_f], [name_f]Gladys[/name_f]…
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - I find them a bit bland. Not much to them.
[name_f]Evie[/name_f] - I adore, but as a nickname for something more substantial
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - ditto [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but even more so. I’m at a loss as to why it’s still so popular. Seems really dated to the 90s imo.
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - I don’t like the sound

And btw, UK ≠ [name_f]England[/name_f] & [name_m]Wales[/name_m]!

Yes, apologies for that, I released straight after I posted, but can’t alter the thread title now.

  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]- [name_f]Adore[/name_f]! Simply gorgeous.
  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]- Very pretty
  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]- Pretty, but I hate the nn [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] on a girl. I know too many [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]'s.
  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f]- Classic and timeless. [name_f]Love[/name_f] this one.
  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f]- Too cutesy on an adult
  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f]- Simple and sweet. [name_f]Love[/name_f] this one
  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f]- [name_f]Adore[/name_f]! I love this as a nn for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f]- Gorgeous, but I would be afraid of pronunciation issues
  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]- Prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] on its own sounds too much like “sofa.”
  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]- Never liked this one
  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f]- Too nicknamey. [name_f]Love[/name_f] it as a nn for [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]- Beautiful!
  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]- I have a love/hate relationship with this one. It’s cute I guess.
  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f]- My great-grandmother was named [name_f]Grace[/name_f], so I have a major soft spot for this one.
  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]- Pretty, but would never use it
  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]- Cute on a child, but I can’t see an old lady named [name_f]Chloe[/name_f].
  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]- I dislike all of the -belle/bella names
  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f]- Cute!
  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f]- Pretty
  20. [name_m]Charlo[/name_m]- Not a fan. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

Quite like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] are okay and I prefer [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], to [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. The rest I’ve heard so much I just can’t like them, even without considering popularity.

Some of these names I don’t like because I’m bored of hearing them, though I suppose that counts as being due to their popularity

  1. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - quite pretty but feels long to use as a full name all of the time and I don’t like the obvious nns ([name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Milly[/name_f])
  2. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - again kind of pretty but I struggle to look past popularity because I’m bored of it
  3. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] - very dated, I’m shocked it’s still so popular as I don’t know any Jessicas under the age of about 14
  4. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] - pretty but very juvenile
  5. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - pretty
  6. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] - love love love it! My top name if it wasn’t so popular. It’s just so short and simple and the letter V just makes it more exciting
  7. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - pretty but short (for some reason the length of [name_f]Mia[/name_f] bothers me but not some other names like [name_f]Ava[/name_f]). I don’t like that [name_f]Mia[/name_f] means mine, it seems kind of self-centred for a name
  8. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] - really like this one. It’s beautiful yet simple
  9. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - meh
  10. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - pretty but I much prefer [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
  11. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] - very cutsie, I prefer [name_f]Eve[/name_f] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]
  12. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - I have never seen the attraction of this name, apart from that rubies are pretty
  13. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - love the flower, but the name not so much. I just think of poop
  14. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] - nice but not overly exciting
  15. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - I prefer it to [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
  16. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - undecided
  17. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - again, prefer [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
  18. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] - pretty and sweet
  19. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] - I love it, but very disappointed and surprised that it is so popular
  20. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - can’t stand the nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] but [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] is quite cute
