Top 25 Girls Names Review?

What do you think of:

I love these (and would use them myself):

[name]Caroline[/name] -timeless classic!
[name]Daphne[/name] - lovely mythological/botanical name.
[name]Eleanor[/name] (only spelled [name]Elinor[/name]) - A gorgeous classic. I prefer the literary [name]Elinor[/name]/[name]Elanor[/name], having known several nasty Eleanors in my lifetime. But [name]Eleanor[/name] is gorgeous as long as it’s not on my kid.
[name]Elsa[/name] - sweet, simple & refreshing. Feels a bit nicknamey to me but does stand fine on it’s own, ala [name]Molly[/name].
[name]Elspeth[/name] - One of my favorites! Stylish, sweet & feminine but not soft. I absolutley love [name]Elspeth[/name]! I’d nickname an elspeth of mine, [name]Elsa[/name].
[name]Esme[/name] - Twilight notwithstanding, [name]Esme[/name]'s a variation of a family name for me and figures among my top favorites. I think it’s simply elegant and perfectly feminine.
[name]Jane[/name] - simply lovely and really timeless.
[name]Rose[/name] - as a first name, outstandingly simple and lovely. As a middle, a bit dated and somewhat boring.
[name]Rosemary[/name] - One of my favorite [name]Rose[/name]-variants, [name]Rosemary[/name]'s beautiful. Strong, sweet and with her mulitple nicknames ([name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosie[/name]/[name]Mary[/name]/[name]Romy[/name]) a real winner of a name!
[name]Vera[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name], warm and comfortable. I’ve known a few [name]Vera[/name] in my lifetime, all lovely, warm, wonderful women.
[name]Violet[/name] - My favorite Aunt’s name and one of my Mom’s favorite flowers. [name]Violet[/name]'s loaded with significance for me and figures in several of my top combos for those reasons. She’s going to be super hot in the ears to come though, so if top 20 isn’t a comfortable place for you, use it as a middle.

I like these on someone else’s kid:

[name]Ada[/name] - charmingly sweet. I just prefer her as a nickname for [name]Adeline[/name].
[name]Annabel[/name] - I’m rather tired of all the [name]Bella[/name] names and while [name]Annabel[/name]'s undeniably pretty, she’s too popular for me.
[name]Audrey[/name] - I love the [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn assocation. But all I can get my brain to do with [name]Audrey[/name] is rhyme “[name]Audrey[/name], Tawdry”… and because of that, she’s a “lovely for anyone else” sort of choice.
[name]Eden[/name] - Not a fan of place names, Biblical or not. And I prefer [name]Edith[/name] as a way to get to [name]Edie[/name]. I think [name]Eden[/name]'s going to be dated in the future too.
[name]Etta[/name] - it would be a love/use name for me if it were a nickname for [name]Henrietta[/name], but is far too unsubstantial and nicknamey alone.
[name]Kate[/name] - [name]Just[/name] tired of [name]Kate[/name], really. I know sooo many between the age of 55 and 4. She needs a break!
[name]Katherine[/name] - a lovely classic, really. I prefer [name]Katherine[/name] over all other varieties but still, I think I’d rather see anything else on a girl. katherine’s beginning to feel like a cop out name “we couldn’t think of anything else so [name]Katherine[/name] she became” Kind of thing. Maybe reviving some of the older [name]Katherine[/name] nickmaes? [name]Kay[/name], [name]Kitty[/name]/[name]Kit[/name]? [name]Elizabeth[/name] is on that list too.
[name]Ilsa[/name] - I love [name]Ilsa[/name] but fear the “oh your folks were Casablanca fans” thing she might get her whole life.
[name]Iona[/name] - This one just doesn’t appeal to me. I find it too simple & a bit trendy (because it’s a Celtic name). [name]Iona[/name]'s not my cup of tuna.
[name]Maeve[/name] - is undeniably pretty. I find her meaning “intoxicating” a bit offputting myself (but then, alcoholism looms rather large in my family and it’s something we all are careful of. I really like [name]Maeve[/name] despite that, on anyone’s girl but mine.

And I dislike these:

[name]Charlotte[/name] - it’s me, mainly. All is see when I look at [name]Charlotte[/name] is the “harlot” in the middle. It’s a fine name, but not one I could ever get behind.
[name]Isla[/name] - Trendy, trendy, tredny, thanks to [name]Isla[/name] [name]Fisher[/name]. Pretty but I think it’ll date in the future.
[name]Liv[/name] - okay but strikes me as nicknamey. I wouldn’t mind [name]Olive[/name]/[name]Olivia[/name] , nn [name]Liv[/name].
[name]Lotta[/name] - Again, strikes me as nicknamey. It’s the yank in me. [name]Charlotte[/name], nn [name]Lotta[/name] or [name]Lottie[/name] would be lovely, though.

My two cents:

Names I”d consider using:
[name]Caroline[/name]”a classic I never get tired of hearing
[name]Daphne[/name]”uncommon enough to get attention, lovely
[name]Eden[/name]”I think it”s so pretty, even though [name]Marcia[/name] [name]Cross[/name] made it trendy
[name]Elsa[/name]/[name]Ilsa[/name]”these go together for me ; remind me of Casablanca, which is a good association
[name]Esme[/name]”I love this name, even though I”m afraid it causes problems; I had a well-educated acquaintance whose dog was called EES-muh, and I finally asked her to spell it” oh yeah, she was butchering the crap out of [name]Esme[/name]. I could have cried.
[name]Isla[/name]”[name]Lola[/name]”s right, it”s trendy, but I”m willing to live with that. ?

Names I”m down with other people using:
[name]Ada[/name]”simple and pretty, an alternative to the increasingly tired [name]Ava[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]”like [name]Lola[/name], I prefer the [name]Elinor[/name] spelling, don”t know why
[name]Jane[/name]”pretty, but a wee bit plain for my tastes; almost an afterthought of a name
[name]Vera[/name]”fortunately, kids her age have never seen ”[name]Alice[/name],” so this name works for me
[name]Iona[/name]”I like it, but I think there”s bound to be some teasing with this one ([name]Iona[/name] Carr, etc.)

Names I just can”t get excited about:
[name]Annabel[/name]”tired; the beloved name of those who can”t decide between [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]”Hepburn is an icon, but the name by itself just doesn”t thrill me
[name]Charlotte[/name]”a bit stuffy
[name]Elspeth[/name]”it”s interesting, but it sounds like a witch name
[name]Etta[/name]”I love [name]Etta[/name] [name]James[/name], but as a stand-alone name it feels like something is missing
[name]Kate[/name]/[name]Katherine[/name]”tired. Very, very tired.
[name]Liv[/name]”like [name]Etta[/name], feels like it got chopped off. [name]Liv[/name] as a nickname works, but not a stand-alone
[name]Lotta[/name]”[name]Zeppelin[/name]: I gotta whole lotta love (guitar riff), I gotta whole lotta love. Can”t get past it.
[name]Maeve[/name]”I feel like I”m supposed to like this name a whole lot more than I do.
[name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosemary[/name]”[name]Rose[/name] is tired, and [name]Rosemary[/name] hasn”t made its old lady revival for me just yet; I still automatically think ”[name]Rosemary[/name]”s [name]Baby[/name].”
[name]Violet[/name]”Everyone”s going to assume you got it from [name]Jennifer[/name] [name]Garner[/name].

You have great taste! All of these names are pretty, but here are my personal favorites:

[name]Daphne[/name] (cute, but I like the French [name]Delphine[/name] even more)
[name]Elsa[/name] (I think this one needs to be revived!)
[name]Jane[/name] (would need more unusual surname though)
[name]Lotta[/name] (best as a nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name], but really sweet)

I really love the sound of [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name], but I think they’ll probably be mega-popular soon. But if that doesn’t bother you then go for it.

[name]Ada[/name]-not wild about it. Good Nabokov novel. Actually I prefer [name]Ava[/name].
[name]Annabel[/name]-really like it
[name]Audrey[/name]-Mmmm, [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn, love it.
[name]Caroline[/name]-love and adore
[name]Charlotte[/name]-is one of my favorites, but [name]Lola[/name] just ruined it for me by pointing out the harlot in the middle : (!
[name]Daphne[/name]-love and adore
[name]Eden[/name]-gonna be trendy
[name]Elsa[/name]-the lioness although I do love lionesses.
[name]Elspeth[/name]-reminds me of a spelling bee, can’t get that out of my head as much as I try!
[name]Esme[/name]-like it, love [name]Salinger[/name]
[name]Ilsa[/name]-Casablanca, yes I love the character [name]Ilsa[/name]. Here’s looking at you, [name]Ilsa[/name]!
[name]Iona[/name]-I think it’s on my Body Parts Names List. If not, I need to put it on. That list is very silly with lots of puns. If you think of more names to go on it, tell me. To find the list look up [name]Armand[/name] (Arm) and scroll down.
[name]Isla[/name]-nice on somebody else’s kid
[name]Jane[/name]-love and adore. My cousin’s daughter and that’s why my daughter isn’t [name]Jane[/name].
[name]Kate[/name]-my husband loves it. I really like it.
[name]Katherine[/name]-I love [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Lotta[/name]-sounds really big, sorry!
[name]Maeve[/name]-love beyond description, but my husband hates it. He hates [name]Mavis[/name] even more!
[name]Rosemary[/name]-yum, yum, and so many cute nicknames-[name]Rosie[/name], [name]Romy[/name], [name]Roxie[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]-Ooohhh, nice
[name]Violet[/name]-This is a beautiful name, but I don’t like it because it was my aunt’s name. My Aunt [name]Vi[/name] never liked me, even when I was a little tiny girl. She liked my sister but when my sister got married Aunt [name]Vi[/name] didn’t like her husband so now she doesn’t like either one of us. : (.

I like

[name]Lotta[/name] -like [name]Lotte[/name]

[name]Ada[/name] - Does nothing for me.
[name]Annabel[/name] - I love this name, though the DH doesn’t, so we never used it. I would spell it [name]Annabelle[/name], though.
[name]Audrey[/name] - Elegant, very pretty.
[name]Caroline[/name] - All the Carolines I know are not very friendly, so for me it’s a bad association.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - Okay.
[name]Daphne[/name] - I think of the [name]Daphne[/name] from Greek Mythology. In the story, [name]Daphne[/name] begged her father to help her escape from [name]Apollo[/name]. He answered her wish and turned her into a laurel tree.
[name]Eden[/name] - Eh.
[name]Eleanor[/name] - It’s okay, though I love [name]Lenore[/name].
[name]Elsa[/name] - Nope.
[name]Elspeth[/name] - Nope.
[name]Esme[/name] - It’s pretty, but not my favorite.
[name]Etta[/name] - Nope.
[name]Ilsa[/name] - Nah.
[name]Iona[/name] - Nope.
[name]Jane[/name] - One of my best friends is [name]Jane[/name], and it fits her perfectly. It’s gorgeous and timeless!
[name]Kate[/name] - Alright.
[name]Katherine[/name] - Beautiful!
[name]Liv[/name] - Nope.
[name]Lotta[/name] - Short for [name]Charlotte[/name]?
[name]Maeve[/name] - I think of [name]Mauve[/name].
[name]Rose[/name] - Beautiful and sweet!
[name]Rosemary[/name] - Not my fave.
[name]Vera[/name] - Pretty.
[name]Violet[/name] - Nah.

Ones I would consider if I were having more children:

[name]Ada[/name] - A little insubstantial, but sounds nice…
[name]Annabel[/name] - As long as it’s not [name]Annabelle[/name] I’m down! nn [name]Annie[/name] is lovely!
[name]Audrey[/name] - I love it, but it’s soo trendy!
[name]Caroline[/name] - too boring for me, [name]Carolina[/name] is much better!
[name]Charlotte[/name] - This one always seems tacky to me, a wannabe classic that just never measures up to [name]Katherine[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]Daphne[/name] - I like it for the history and meaning, but the sound is somewhat unpleasant
[name]Eden[/name] - I like it, but it’s really trendy again… The Norwegian [name]Idun[/name] or [name]Iben[/name] might appeal to you? [name]Idun[/name] was the goddess of [name]Eternal[/name] youth in Norse mythology!
[name]Eleanor[/name] - Prefer [name]Eleanora[/name] with the nn [name]Nora[/name]! [name]Leonora[/name] is also lovely
[name]Elsa[/name] - I love it! [name]Love[/name] [name]Love[/name] [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Elspeth[/name] - My favourite version of [name]Elizabeth[/name], next to [name]Eliza[/name], Beautiful! And gets the [name]Elsa[/name] nickname
[name]Esme[/name] - I can feel it climbing the charts like isla, and prefer [name]Ismay[/name]
[name]Etta[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, as a nickname for [name]Rosetta[/name]
[name]Ilsa[/name] - I love [name]Elsa[/name] more, but [name]Ilsa[/name] is slightly more exotic!
[name]Iona[/name] - I prefer [name]Ione[/name], to avoid the ‘I own a’ jokes
[name]Isla[/name] - [name]Future[/name] chart-topper, too soft for me
[name]Jane[/name] - A bit dull, but I like it better than [name]Caroline[/name]!
[name]Kate[/name] - [name]Kate[/name] is lovely, but prefer it as a nickname for [name]Katherine[/name] or [name]Katharina[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name] - I like [name]Katherine[/name]!
[name]Liv[/name] - [name]Liv[/name] sounds so wonderful and exotic in English and it’s so refreshing to see since it’s considered very dated here in Norway… The ‘life’ meaning is also magnificent!
[name]Lotta[/name] - [name]Lottie[/name] would be better, [name]Lotta[/name] is a whole lotta name!
[name]Maeve[/name] - I want to love [name]Maeve[/name], but I always reach the conclusion that she’s too abrupt for me with her one syllable…
[name]Rose[/name] - I have problems with mono syllabic names, they feel incomplete… I like it as a nickname for [name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name] or [name]Primrose[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name] - or as a nickname for [name]Rosemary[/name], which I think is charming!
[name]Vera[/name] - Makes me think of [name]Pink[/name] [name]Floyd[/name] and smile to myself… [name]Lovely[/name] name!
[name]Violet[/name] - I always read Violent so I could never use the name myself… Also, I prefer [name]Lilac[/name] or [name]Lavender[/name] or [name]Viola[/name]…

I’m sorry if I seem a bit harsh, I really love a lot of the names, it’s just easier to point out the things I don’t like about a name. I’m also telling you what I think about them, and I would never use one of the ‘classics’. Most of the names I like aren’t even in the top 1000 which of course colours my opinion!
My favourites are [name]Liv[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name]/[name]Elsa[/name]/[name]Ilsa[/name], [name]Vera[/name], [name]Etta[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name]…
If you turned [name]Annabel[/name] into [name]Amabel[/name] (which I [name]ADORE[/name]) you’d get a better meaning, more unique and historic name and not have her be one of many future Annabels, since the name will become more popular… She’d probably have to explain that her name isn’t [name]Annabel[/name] a lot though, but if you gave her the nn [name]Amy[/name] it might be less of a problem… [name]Bell[/name] is also a lovely nickname!

[name]Ada[/name]-[name]Ava[/name] ruined this one for me
[name]Annabel[/name]-pretty but way too trendy
[name]Charlotte[/name]-see [name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]-love it, great sub for the popular [name]Chloe[/name].*
[name]Eden[/name]-ok but trendy
[name]Elspeth[/name]-love it, not brave enough to use it
[name]Etta[/name]-not for me
[name]Ilsa[/name]-I prefer [name]Elsa[/name]
[name]Iona[/name]-not sure how to pronounce it, sorry
[name]Kate[/name]-I prefer [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name]-see [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Liv[/name]-as a nn for [name]Olivia[/name], yes
[name]Lotta[/name]-not for me
[name]Rose[/name]-I am obviously biased, but I do like it (not as a mn)
[name]Rosemary[/name]-not my fav
[name]Violet[/name]-pretty, but too trendy

Good luck!

[name]Elsa[/name] – [name]Elsa[/name]'s okay; seems very nickname-cute to me. Like [name]Etta[/name].
[name]Elspeth[/name] – [name]Elspeth[/name] is beautiful. It’s very darkly gorgeous to me; almost like a witch’s name.

My faves… good choices

My favorites from your list:

[name]Ada[/name]: nice alternative to the pretty but all too common [name]Ava[/name]… also means fairy in Spanish so I love that about it too (:
[name]Etta[/name]: I love this name…but think it serves well as a nn eg [name]Henrietta[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]: cute. soft.
[name]Rose[/name]: [name]Love[/name].
[name]Vera[/name]: although I could never come to using this name, I think it is very striking, original and would love to meet a baby girl named this!
[name]Violet[/name]: very pretty. I love the flower names…cant go wrong with them (:

I love so many of these!

[name]Ada[/name]- this is a wonderful variation to the popular [name]Ava[/name]. I prefer [name]Adelaide[/name] though.
[name]Annabel[/name]- I love [name]Annabel[/name] so much!
