Top 5

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Everyone!

So my husband and I found out we are having a little girl and now the hunt is on for a girls’ name! Wondering what you think of our top 5 and what your favourites are. We are having a terrible time deciding this pregnancy!

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] (not totally sure this is an option anymore due to it being so popular!)
[name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Neela[/name_f] (Pronounced "Nay-la)
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]

What do you like and why?
Thank you!!

*******Please note: We have ruled out Hadley and Neela, thanks to some feedback and more time to think about it! So please let us know what you think of Adelaide, Avalon and Gracelyn!

[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is my favorite from your list! [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] is a close second though I prefer [name_f]Hattie[/name_f].

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - I love this name. I have only met one baby named [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and everyone thought it was pretty unique, but liked it. Maybe it is more popular where you are from.
[name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] - I also like this name a lot. I usually go for more unusual names, but have always loved [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. I like that [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] gives it a little twist.
[name_f]Neela[/name_f] - I’m not as much of a fan.
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] - this is a nice name. I personally just wouldn’t want it shortened to [name_f]Ava[/name_f], but you might not mind if that happens.
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] - not a fan of this one either.

Thank you for your replies! You know, I actually don’t know many little girls named [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] but just see it so high up on all the lists and it scares me away! :stuck_out_tongue: So, being that it shouldn’t affect us directly I think it is still in the running.

I am happy to know that your favorites are mostly within my top three. I have never been quite as sure about [name_f]Neela[/name_f] or [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and my husband is even less sure!

Keep the replies coming!

Nameberry tastes tend to be a bit more sophisticated than the general population, and probably a good 5-10 years ahead. My eldest son’s name has been a Nameberry hit for years, and it just cracked the top 100 in 2014. I really do love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. It’s such a lovely name, and even if it gets popular, I don’t think it will ever “sound” trendy.

[name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f], on the other hand, sounds trendy to me. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is super-popular, and tacking “[name_u]Lyn[/name_u]” on the end seems like a feeble attempt to make it sound unique, IMHO.

[name_f]Neela[/name_f] sounds like a made-up name to me.

[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]–I really like this one. Not commonly heard, but easily recognized, with a pretty sound.

[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]–Too unisex for my tastes, and boring compared to your other choices.

So, [name_f]Adalaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] are my top two for you. HTH!

Definitely [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! I’ve never met one.

Thanks for your reply; some really good thoughts!! With some help, we have for sure ruled out [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and [name_f]Neela[/name_f]. So now to the three we have left! I am really torn between these:

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f]

So if anyone has any thoughts on these three specifically it would be great to hear them!
And, if it helps to know, our first daughter’s name is [name_f]Eliana[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] the best followed by [name_f]Avalon[/name_f].

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is gorgeous and I don’t think I’d consider it “popular” at all. Sure it’s ranked, but only about 1000 girls in the entire US were named this last year. (In comparison, over 20,000 girls were named [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (#1) last year. And that’s nothing in comparison to what popularity used to be, ex. at it’s height [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] was given to over 63,000 girls one year)

[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] would also be a great choice. It was only given to 150 girls last year, though nn [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is far more popular. I think it’s nice that it has both as options though.

I wouldn’t suggest [name_f]Neela[/name_f]. The pronunciation you want isn’t obvious/natural so you’ll end up spelling it a lot. And I don’t feel like it’s as lovely a name as the others on your list.

I know a little girl named [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]. It’s a nice name. Not really my cup of tea, but it’s pretty.

I absolutely love the name [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. It is very classic and elegant and feminine.

My favorite option is [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]! I just think it’s really beautiful and unique sounding.
second is [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], I think this is one of those names that seems popular on nb but i don’t think it’s nearly as possible in real life. it’s super classy and adorable
least fav is [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f], for no reason other than it’s nms whereas I really like the other two

I love both [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]! [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would be a nice middle name for either of them.

Thank you! We are definitely considering [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a mn for either of the “A” names, should we choose one of them. I love the sound of it as a middle name with either name. If we did [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] it would probably be [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] or [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].

I heard of a little girl named Avalin or [name_f]Avalyn[/name_f], maybe it sounds closer to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] then [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] thought I’d throw it out there for you.
Agreeing with most of the others so far, I like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] much more without the lyn(or maybe [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]?). And definitely great for a middle name with either of your other 2 choices!
