Hey everyone! Sorry it has been a while, but good news… I have a much shorter list for the boy possibilities. Care to help out with the boy combos for our team green number 3 set to likely appear in [name_u]July[/name_u]?
For anyone new to my posts, I’m using quite a bit of shorthand here (Metal [name_m]Ox[/name_m], for instance) that you might not have context for but could easily find in other posts of mine, but I’ll take your feedback at face value either way.
Tops in the Running:
Constantine [name_u]Jules[/name_u] - “forever youthful”
Some pros: Time-based meaning. Hard C/K sound. T heavy. [name_u]Jule[/name_u]/Julian honor. Dashing. Possible nicknames TinTin and [name_u]Kostya[/name_u]. One of my partner’s favorites for first name.
Some cons:
Endymion [name_u]Jules[/name_u] - ‘to plunge into youthfulness’
Some pros: 49/50 month [name_f]Olympiad[/name_f] cycle name. [name_f]Non[/name_f]-obvious -io to match siblings. [name_u]Jule[/name_u]/Julian honor. Mythological and literary.
Some cons: Not my partner’s absolute favorite as a first name. The uneasy bits about the mythological background.
Endymion [name_u]Jem[/name_u] - ‘to plunge into revolution’
Some pros: this is likely my favorite MEANING on the list. It takes the usually negative connotation to me of [name_u]Jem[/name_u] as a [name_u]James[/name_u]-based “supplanter” and turns it on its head. [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] is “to plunge into” but in the context of the stars as we make our daily revolution and they appear to plunge into the ocean horizon, which is just such a beautiful image of stars making ripples as they drop into the sea. So here I see the “supplanter” as a willingness to plunge into that daily, monthly, olympiadic, and ritualistic revolution… that everything is at once always changing and always staying the same. Other pros: the [name_f]Olympiad[/name_f] connection. [name_f]Non[/name_f]-obvious -io to match siblings. [name_u]Jule[/name_u]/Julian + [name_u]James[/name_u]/Jimmy mother-son honor combo.
Some cons: Not my partner’s absolute favorite as a first name, though [name_u]Jem[/name_u] is one of his absolute favorites for a middle. The uneasy bits about the mythological background. The face value of the name meanings (always uneasy about “supplanter” for the third boy… it feels like he is fated to create rivalry).
Ferdinand [name_u]Jules[/name_u] - ‘youthful, bold voyager’
Some pros: Such a dashing, sea-faring adventurer vibe. Metal ox. [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] the Bull. [name_u]Jule[/name_u]/Julian honor. Literary.
Some cons: Not my partner’s favorite first name.
Ozymandias [name_u]Jem[/name_u] - ‘supplanting empire’
Some pros: Literary and historical. Another turning of the [name_u]Jem[/name_u] on its head. It pulls more on the ephemeral and entropic nature of the supposedly everlasting empire than it does on the ‘replacement’ connotation. Cool nicknames of [name_m]Oz[/name_m] and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], but also the honor nickname [name_m]Manny[/name_m]. [name_u]Jule[/name_u]/Julian and [name_u]James[/name_u]/Jimmy mother-son honor.
Some cons: [name_m]Can[/name_m] come off as pretentious (but also not sure that any of my names ever truly escape this). Not my partner’s favorite first.
Taliesin [name_m]Artair[/name_m] [name_u]Milo[/name_u] - ‘gracious bear with a shining brow’
Some pros: [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u] honors [name_u]Jule[/name_u] through her interior design work at [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u] [name_u]East[/name_u] with [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] [name_m]Wright[/name_m]. Literary and mythological. One of the favorite first names for my partner. [name_m]Artair[/name_m] honors my partner though the meaning of [name_m]Artair[/name_m] as ‘bear’ (his Chinese name meaning blazing bear’ here echoed by the ‘shining’ meaning, too). [name_u]Milo[/name_u] is also one of his favorites via The Phantom Tollbooth. TAM initials honor MIL.
Some cons: Double middle?
Taliesin [name_m]Malachite[/name_m] - ‘soft shining brow’
Some pros: still a TaM combo for MIL. Partner favorite first name. Same as above, honors my [name_u]Jule[/name_u]. [name_m]Malachite[/name_m] also honors [name_f]Jade[/name_f].
Some cons: overall sibset flow? I’m not sure this is an actual issue.
Ulysses [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] - ‘bold voyager on an Odyssey’
Some pros: partner’s favorite first name. Literary and mythological. [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. Metal [name_m]Ox[/name_m]. Dashing, sea-faring adventurer vibe. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite first to say in [name_u]French[/name_u]. [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] takes the “wrathful” edge off [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] and makes it all about the adventuring.
Some cons:
Ulysses [name_u]Jem[/name_u] - ‘wrathful supplanter’
Some pros: Partner’s probable favorite combo. Literary and mythological. [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. Metal [name_m]Ox[/name_m].
Some cons: negative suspected etymological meanings. Shorter than siblings’ names?
Ulysses [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - ‘wrathful peace’
Some pros: [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] balances [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] with the meaning.
Some cons: Husband simply never a fan of [name_m]Solomon[/name_m].
Ulysses [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u] - ‘wrathful, shining brow’
Some pros: Dashing combo. Literary and mythological. I think I prefer [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u] in the middle spot.
Some cons: overall meaning isn’t as strong as many others.
Concessions (at least one element to make each of us very happy):
Constantine [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - “eternal (constant) peace”
He loves [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]. I love [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]. Perfect meaning for the final child.
Ferdinand [name_m]Scipio[/name_m] - ‘walking stick of the bold voyager’
I love [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]. He loves [name_m]Scipio[/name_m]. Great meaning!
Rubeus [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] - ‘steadfast ruby’
I love Rubeus. He loves [name_u]Constantine[/name_u].
Rubeus [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] - ‘red bear’
I love Rubeus. He loves [name_u]Oberon[/name_u].
Rubeus [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u] - ‘red, shining brow’
I love Rubeus. We both love [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u] but I think I might like it better as a middle?
Probably not contenders anymore (because they’re more about me than my partner):
Rubeus [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] - ‘bold, red voyager’
So handsome!
Taliesin [name_m]Benoit[/name_m] - ‘shining, anointed brow’
[name_u]Love[/name_u] this meaning!
Eek… it feels good to have some more substance to our boy list!
