This is my first post though I read nameberry every day. I am expecting a baby in [name_u]December[/name_u] so lots of time to consider. I have read I think every name there is at this point and now I need some advice about our top pics! I’m looking for a boy name, sibling to Griffyn and [name_f]Azalia[/name_f]. DH and I like unusual names and are partial to nature, mythological and art/writing-related names. But we also don’t want to stray into the super weird (or at least no weirder then the names we’ve already given DS and DD). We have ruled out all names that start with a G, A, M or H (our names start with those) or ones that we think sound too much like our kids names (eg. Griffyn and [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] have too much “fin” in them). We thought we had a name all picked out but I told a family member my top pic and was told to go back to the drawing board (ouch).
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u] (too flavour of the month?)
[name_m]Casparo[/name_m] (could also go with [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] but it reminds me of the ghost)
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] (a friend of mine has a dog named [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] so although I love the name am having trouble with the dog association)
Warwick (I prefer the pronounciation war-wick)
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m] or [name_m]Lev[/name_m] (all versions of the same name, pretty common)
[name_m]Lief[/name_m]
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m] (does this sound too much like [name_f]Stella[/name_f], super popular and a girl’s name?)
The only one I don’t like is [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] I know way too many girls with the name.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] and [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m].
Congrats on your pregnancy and welcome to Nameberry.
I think [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are my favourites from your list. I like Warwick and I don’t know how else anyone would pronounce it other than “war-wick”. [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] is fine if it’s spelled this way. You say you don’t want names that “match” with your childrens but [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], [name_m]Quillan[/name_m] and [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] all share an “n” ending with Griffyn so they’re matchy to my ears as well. I prefer just [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (a full name that can stand alone) to the other longer names. [name_m]Lief[/name_m] is usually spelled [name_m]Leif[/name_m] and I find [name_m]Casparo[/name_m] odd.
[name_u]Mischa[/name_u] - you are right! I spelt [name_m]Leif[/name_m] wrong. I wasn’t trying to introduce a new spelling! Yeah family member said the same thing about Griffyn and the “en” sounding names being too similar. I am not sure what I think about the endings sounding the same. Too me it feels like they go more together, but its definitely something to consider.
Gummibear - I think you are right about [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] being pretty girly these days (though I thought wast was more [name_u]Skylar[/name_u]). I do also like [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] though.
Wonderful list! Not too weird at all!!! The one I question is Warwick, which I personally just don’t like the sound of much. [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are a bit more common then the rest of your names, but that’s ok, if you love them.
My personal favourite: [name_m]Leif[/name_m]. I love this name…
My favourites with Griffyn and [name_f]Azalia[/name_f]: [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] or [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]. I actually like how [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] shares the ‘n’ ending with Griffyn and is longer/more syllables like [name_f]Azalia[/name_f]. In my opinion it works.
I also like:
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], tho its maybe a bit much
[name_m]Casparo[/name_m], this one is cool!
[name_m]Quillan[/name_m] and [name_m]Stellan[/name_m], but I also say these maybe match Griffyn too much with the 2 syllables ending in ‘n’.
Good luck!!
I love the name [name_m]Leif[/name_m]! (I think that is what you meant anyway–[name_m]Lief[/name_m] isn’t a name). It is simple and strong and masculine, but also seems to fit a little boy quite well.
I also like [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], but prefer the nicknames “[name_m]Pippin[/name_m]” or “[name_m]Pip[/name_m].”
And I like [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] well enough. I don’t think it sounds feminine despite its similarity to [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
[QUOTE=mvictorm;2032580][name_u]Mischa[/name_u] - you are right!
Regarding [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] - I love the name and since it’s three-syllables, it’s not as matchy with Griffyn as the other two-syllable names ending in “n” like [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]. Besides, if you call him [name_u]Perry[/name_u] most of the time, then it’s a non-issue.
I like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m](though it may be too popular for you), [name_m]Lev[/name_m](or [name_m]Leo[/name_m] if that’s a choice), and Warwick best from your list. [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] is okay as well, it just doesn’t quite seem to match with your other children to me. Have you considered [name_m]Liev[/name_m]? That variation is sort of a mix between [name_m]Lev[/name_m] and [name_m]Leif[/name_m], so it might be something that’s up your alley. Like you said, you do have plenty of time left to decide. Good luck! =]
I love [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] ([name_m]Penn[/name_m]), [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] & [name_m]Leif[/name_m]. These names seem to go best with Griffyn & [name_f]Azalia[/name_f].
I’m kind of neutral on [name_m]Quillan[/name_m], [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]/[name_m]Leon[/name_m]/[name_m]Leo[/name_m].
I’m not a big fan of [name_m]Casparo[/name_m], [name_u]Skyler[/name_u], [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] or Warwick. I would prefer [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] to [name_m]Casparo[/name_m].
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u] (definitely not too pretentious)
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u] (but rather popular)
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
Warwick
[name_m]Leon[/name_m] (like more than [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] or [name_m]Lev[/name_m])
[name_m]Leif[/name_m]
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m]
I don’t know how Canadians pronounce Warwick, but in Australia and [name_m]Britain[/name_m], it’s definitely said “Worrick”. So you may have some issues.
[name_m]Quillan[/name_m] and [name_m]Casparo[/name_m] are the only names I’m not keen on.
[name_m]Quillan[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Quill[/name_m]) - Really cute. Unusual without being weird.
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Penn[/name_m]) - I like [name_m]Penn[/name_m], but not [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]. I know it’s a berry fave, but it’s just… weird to me. I just think of the falcon and get confused.
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u] - someone I worked with just named their son this last year. I think it’s cute. (Have you watched [name_m]Archer[/name_m] though? His first name is [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and he’s not exactly someone you’d want to name your kid after. It’s not a huge problem, as probably I’m the only one to think of this but… be aware.)
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u] - It’s gone quite girly as of late… but it still can be used for boys.
[name_m]Casparo[/name_m] - This just looks a little made up to me. If you’re looking for an alternative to [name_m]Casper[/name_m], have you tried [name_m]Gaspar[/name_m]? That might have its own set of problems though…
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - Cute.
Warwick - Makes me think of Warwick [name_m]Davis[/name_m]. Not a bad association, but quite proper.
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m] or [name_m]Lev[/name_m] - HATE [name_m]Leon[/name_m], but this is a personal preference. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], and [name_m]Lev[/name_m] is just ok.
[name_m]Lief[/name_m] - Meh. Very artsy.
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m] - [name_f]Love[/name_f].
My favorites are [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] and [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], and the ones I dislike are [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] and [name_m]Casparo[/name_m]. I think your list just needs a little refining, but you’re on a good track.
I think [name_m]Leif[/name_m] goes the best with Griffyn and [name_f]Azalia[/name_f]. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] also sounds good, but my favorite is [name_m]Leif[/name_m].
[name_m]Quillan[/name_m] nn [name_m]Quill[/name_m] - definitely quirky, but I like it. [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] nn [name_m]Penn[/name_m] - I like this as well, especially nn [name_m]Penn[/name_m]. [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] isn’t too weird - I’ve seen many mothers considering it lately.
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u] - reminds me of “sterling silver,” and I’ve never like jewelry-related names.
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u] - I know that this one’s unisex, but the “[name_u]Skye[/name_u]” part has always sounded feminine.
[name_m]Casparo[/name_m] & [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - I dislike all names with the “asp” syllable, it sounds ugly to me, plus, the asp is a poisonous snake (it’s the one that killed [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]). [name_m]Casparo[/name_m] also sounds made-up (though I’m sure it isn’t), I recommend [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] if you don’t want the ghost association.
Warwick - I only know one - Warwick [name_m]Davis[/name_m]. Okay, but there’s no good nickname possibilities with first syllable “war”. [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m] or [name_m]Lev[/name_m] - [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] is not common (though possible nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is), and is awesome. I’d love to see someone use this. [name_m]Leon[/name_m] is okay, but I prefer [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. [name_m]Lev[/name_m] sounds like a nickname for [name_m]Levi[/name_m]. [name_m]Lief[/name_m] - Nice, but not special. I mainly like this because there was an awesome book character called [name_m]Leif[/name_m]/[name_m]Lief[/name_m]. Maybe middle name?
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m] - Hmm, also nice, but not special. Griffyn and [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] are a little matchy.
[name_m]Quillan[/name_m]- This is okay but I prefer the nn [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. It is growing on me and is unique yet not too out there so it is a good option.
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]- This is more ott to me. I do like it but can’t imagine it ageing well.
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]- Sounds very hard to me as a sound.
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u]- Too popular [name_f]IMO[/name_f] but a nice name.
[name_m]Casparo[/name_m]- [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] take on [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] but I don’t think it fits your sibset.
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]- The dog situation is a worry but it is a nice name and goes well so I do like it!
Warwick- [name_f]Love[/name_f] this!
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_m]Lev[/name_m]/[name_m]Levi[/name_m]- These names are nice but I prefer [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] as a suggestion.
[name_m]Leif[/name_m]- Not commonly used which is good but may cause spelling issues. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name however.
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m]- Too close to [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and Stallion for me, sorry!
To conclude, my fave is Warwick followed by [name_m]Quillan[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and potentially [name_m]Lennox[/name_m].
