Thanks to everyone who helped out! You’ll notice I’ve used some of your combos as they were presented to me and others are similar but jumbled about or tweaked for various reasons. There are also some names which are totally new but seem to work quite well as middles and some names I swiped from your suggestions It doesn’t feel entirely finalised but I’m a lot happier with it than I was before. I adore: three, four, five, eight and twelve.
This thread poses three questions.
I only have space for five in my signature. Which are your top five combinations? You can say why if you like but you don’t have to.
Currently, [name_f]Aira[/name_f] is my favourite name. As first born daughter she has to have [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as her first middle name but I’m still not entirely sold on the second. I very much like my new combination but I don’t love it. What wildcard name would you choose to finish the combination? [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] _____ You may choose anything you like, though my taste in names is foreign/traditional as demonstrated.
[name_m]Okey[/name_m] doke. Sorry I never replied to your last threads- I’m pretty hopeless at combos, especially when it comes to more foreign/unusual names so I thought it was best not to meddle :s But I can do top 5s!
These are beautiful! There isn’t any other reason why I picked them tbh so I’ll just say why I vetoed the others. For some, I really disliked one or two of the names, some didn’t have the right feel or flow, a couple felt a little too foreign, one reminded me of a TV soap character and one is still a little too buttery for my liking!
I really admire your names! There are some, I admit, that I’ll never get behind, but most of them are names I really like, just not enough to ever use them myself: [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], for example. So lovely! You’ve got a lot of pretty combos there and I’d be delighted to meet any of those wonderfully-named girls
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Ygraine. Very beautiful. [name_f]Love[/name_f] love [name_f]Aira[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] [name_u]Seren[/name_u]- so musical and flowy.
[name_f]Hester[/name_f] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]- I love [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]. This has a very Victorian vibe to me.
[name_f]Laila[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Midori[/name_f]- not the biggest fan of [name_f]Midori[/name_f] here, but it still works. I love [name_f]Laila[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Sayuri [name_f]Noor[/name_f]- so exotic and haunting. I’m a sucker for cool alliteration.
Beautiful choices. It was hard to choose
I’m horrible at combos. Wish I could suggest something different.
Saracita00: It has to be the first middle name really I’m the fifth [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but the first to have it as a middle name, the four who came before me where all first name Roses. I want to keep it as close to the front as I can. I don’t think I could use it as a fist name myself because it was my [name_f]Nanna[/name_f]'s name and my top boys name is my Pop’s name, [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. I couldn’t have a [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and a [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] together I cringed when JK did it with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_u]James[/name_u] 2.0 in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]
CopyandPaste: Wow, we’re both up late! I really love the sound of [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Evanna[/name_f]. It reminds me of [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f], which I love but can’t use because it’s not real [name_f]Queries[/name_f]: which ones didn’t flow right to you and which one reminded you of a soap character? Lol.
Dindlee-Deedle: We posted at the same time! Lol. Thanks for your top five [name_f]Laila[/name_f]'s combo ends in [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] though, not [name_f]Midori[/name_f]. Does she still make the top five?
Because all evidence suggests that [name_u]Neil[/name_u] Gaiman made it up for his graphic novel ‘Stardust’ and I’d be a hypocrite if I used it.
Yeah, I’ve just been thinking about this since CandP mentioned Evanna, as I’ve got it with Laila at the moment. It does fit really well in Aira’s combo though. I definitely think it’ll end up being ‘E-something’.
Haha, yeah it’s late! My body clock is screwed up at the mo [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like [name_f]Evanna[/name_f]. It always reminds me of [name_f]Luna[/name_f] Lovegood/[name_f]Evanna[/name_f] [name_m]Lynch[/name_m]
As for flow- [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Sayuri [name_f]Noor[/name_f] and [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] didn’t feel 100% right to me. There’s nothing totally wrong with them, they just didn’t sound right in my tired brain!
There were actually two TV characters but I’ve just realised I got one wrong! It’s [name_f]Laila[/name_f], which reminded me of the girl in Eastenders (who I’ve now remembered is [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. D’oh.) And also the other Eastenders woman, who’s played by [name_f]Laila[/name_f] Morse. Her character’s name eludes me right now. I just always think of her as [name_f]Laila[/name_f] Morse/[name_u]Gary[/name_u] Oldman’s sister!
As for [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marcheline[/name_f], [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], and [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] stood out for me.
For general thoughts:
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Ygraine - can’t get behind the 2nd middle name here. It looks a bit too much like ‘migraine’ for me
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] - this is a lovely combo
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] - see [name_f]Bridie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] [name_u]Seren[/name_u] - love [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] and [name_u]Seren[/name_u], but not together, and not an [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] fan.
[name_f]Hester[/name_f] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] - can’t get myself to like [name_f]Hester[/name_f], but love the [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] part! For the literary combo, I’d use [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] as the first name.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] Florianne [name_f]Delphina[/name_f] - I adore this one.
[name_f]Laila[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] - I can’t pronounce the 2nd middle name
Merit [name_f]Midori[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - not my style, although I love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - see [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Sayuri [name_f]Noor[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], not a fan of the middles with it.
I love [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]. I’ve been crushing on [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] lately being of Scottish ancestry.
so top 5:
Oh you sneaky [name_u]Renny[/name_u], posting update threads when I’m asleep.
C&P; [name_f]Laila[/name_f] Morse played a character called [name_u]Mo[/name_u] I think ;).
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Ygraine - I really think this is beautiful. [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Igraine? I think the suggestion of [name_f]Evanna[/name_f] is rather delightful. I can lend you my glorious medieval find of Heleyne, [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Heleyne? [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]? [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Eseld?
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f] [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Erin[/name_f] - yay! [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]! I suggested that one. I think [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]'s beautiful, and I love the combo you’ve cooked up.
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Viola[/name_f] - this is really pretty. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (which I’ve finally started loving!) and [name_f]Viola[/name_f] makes [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] so elegant.
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] - there’s something off in the rhythm to my ears, but as we know I am no flow girl so feel free to ignore my comment on this one. All beautiful names!
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] - gorgeous, warm and cosy.
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] [name_u]Seren[/name_u] - [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]'s so sweet. And [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] and [name_u]Seren[/name_u], ooh, too cute. It’s like a brilliant little cupcake or tiny little kittens.
[name_f]Hester[/name_f] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] - This is lovely. I really love these three together, [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] and [name_f]Hester[/name_f] are absolutely brilliant together, and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] make them al cute and sweet.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] Florianne [name_f]Delphina[/name_f] - Very pretty. I really like Florianne and [name_f]Delphina[/name_f] is beautiful. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is one of the prettiest names in the world, so this is good.
[name_f]Laila[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] - I’m not crazy about [name_f]Laila[/name_f]… I don’t know why. Oh, hang on, I do. I had a horrible nursery teacher called [name_f]Laila[/name_f]!
Merit [name_f]Midori[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - Stunning. [name_f]Love[/name_f] Merit and [name_f]Midori[/name_f] together, and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] swoops in with pink silk ribbons at the end for a romantic twist.
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - it’s like a huge wild bouquet of flowers! [name_f]Love[/name_f] it, it’s so beautiful, and you made me love [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f].
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Sayuri [name_f]Noor[/name_f] - this is utterly delicious. I adore classic [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] with Sayuri and [name_f]Noor[/name_f]. A perfect [name_u]Renny[/name_u] combo!
My top five:
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Something
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] Florianne [name_f]Delphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Sayuri [name_f]Noor[/name_f]
Merit [name_f]Midori[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Viola[/name_f]
But I really love [name_f]Hester[/name_f] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] too.
[name_u]Ren[/name_u]- d’oh. I shouldn’t be allowed to use my iPad after 7pm. [name_f]Laila[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] most definitely makes my top five. [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] is gorgeous.
The only one I don’t really like is Merit [name_f]Midori[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. The flow feels odd and [name_f]Midori[/name_f] is too associated with cocktails for me.
As for [name_f]Aira[/name_f] combos:
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Corinna[/name_f]
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Albertine[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Ygraine - I find this lovely. What about [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Melisande[/name_f]? [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Melusine[/name_f]?
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f] [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Erin[/name_f] - OK, like [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
Saracita00: [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] is a good idea
CopyandPaste: [name_f]Laila[/name_f] Morse rings a bell but the only soap I watch is Neighbours, lol. Eastenders got too depressing for us x_x
LawsonHaley: Ooh [name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marcheline[/name_f] is nice!
EbenezerScrouge: I think [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is my favourite for flow too.
Ottery [name_f]One[/name_f]: Yeah I thought of [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] as well. In theory it works but I’m sort of on the fence about it as a name
Dindles: Yay! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like it!
Tuitree: Ahhh yeah, I forgot about the drink ‘[name_f]Midori[/name_f]’. Hmm. Might have a rethink over that…
Sorceress: Two is [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. I agree that [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]'s combination is reminiscent of water for some reason.
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - this is my fave! I love all three names.
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Laila[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Evadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Hester[/name_f] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like it I know you love foreign names (as you stated) and [name_f]Marcheline[/name_f] is my favourite of the [name_m]French[/name_m] names. (Closely followed by [name_f]Odette[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], swoon). [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find the perfect combos xxx
No particular order just the ones I think should be in your top five.
[name_f]Aira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Ygraine- I love [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and I am a lover of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but trying to think of a second middle since I am not a fan of Ygraine. Probably since I barely know how to pronounce it. But I love [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] it’s so pretty.
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]- I love this, I think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] is dashing, spunky and fun. And the two middles keep the same flow going. Its sophisticated yet playful.
Merit [name_f]Midori[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]- I never really heard of Merit till NB but I like the double M then going to a different letter name. It flows [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. It sounds very European to me at least.
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]- I love [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] it is so chic, I am also favoring [name_f]Iris[/name_f] lately as a middle as well. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] I am on the fence with. I guess since I knew one in HS it kind of ruins it. But still super pretty combo.
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Sayuri [name_f]Noor[/name_f]- Again for some reason I like SS and then a different letter in the combos. I like how [name_f]Noor[/name_f] is one syllable and you have two more then one syllables in the front. It sounds very exotic.
I am going to have to think about [name_f]Aria[/name_f]'s second middle.
