What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?

Feel free to answer only one or not to answer all the questions! I am curious

I would appreciate if you also stated the somehow less or more detailed reasonings behind your choice!

What is one or more popular name(s) on Nameberry that you find overrated? for me this is [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] :see_no_evil: it’s too similar to ‘evangelise’ for me

What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of? I’m not into what nameberry once called ‘the la-la names’ like [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], etc because they just sound like baby talk

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry? [name_f]Eleadora[/name_f], [name_f]Phyllida[/name_f], [name_f]Catrinel[/name_f], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], [name_m]Faramond[/name_m], [name_m]Bonaventure[/name_m]

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more? hmm, tough one because in many ways I would prefer rare names to stay rare because that is their appeal! honestly I would just like to hear someone calling their kid across the room and it’s not [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] for once :upside_down_face:

I prefer Eleodora to Eleadora. But the name is great! Means gift of the sun. It isn’t on my list and I would not use it but it would be nice to hear on another child
I like Alaric.
Of the L names I only like Lena and Leyna (this is GP because spelling difficulties and also different in style from my other names). A little Lina.

What is one or more popular name(s) on Nameberry that you find overrated?
[name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] & [name_f]Luna[/name_f] for girls, [name_m]Soren[/name_m] & [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] for boys. [name_m]Soren[/name_m] is one that especially feels strange to me, because it’s one of those common, slightly dated Scandinavian names, while people on NB seem to think it’s fresh and new.

What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?
[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] and all its variants

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?
So many, but [name_u]Storm[/name_u] comes to mind immediately. Also [name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m] and [name_f]Mehetabel[/name_f]

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?
[name_m]Baltasar[/name_m] & [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is used in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and I heard it a lot recently on young teens! I actually hoped it became rarer here haha
I don’t get [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] neither! [name_m]Can[/name_m] someone tell me?
[name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m] and [name_f]Mehetabel[/name_f] are so beautiful! Not the first things I would name my children, but so beautiful! (I prefer them to [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], actually, haha)

What is one or more popular name(s) on Nameberry that you find overrated?
Girls: [name_u]Blythe[/name_u] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. I have tried liking them, but I don’t see the appeal. I think they are names that look pretty on paper, and their pronunciation is disappointing.

What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?
Girls: [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] because of the pronunciation. I think there are prettier names.
Boys: [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I still associate it (and its popular nicknames) with [name_m]Ted[/name_m] Bundy.

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?
[name_f]Lalisa[/name_f]. I second [name_u]Storm[/name_u] (for a boy).

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?
Maybe [name_u]London[/name_u]? I think it’s the prettiest city name and is underrated compared to [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] and [name_u]Paris[/name_u].

What is one or more popular name(s) on Nameberry that you find overrated/IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?

I’ve combined these two, because these names are also popular irl in my area.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - not a bad name, but I don’t find it as exciting or appealing as others seem to.

[name_m]Roman[/name_m] - just, don’t get it - no good reason for this - but when there’s [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_m]Romeo[/name_m], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], [name_u]Rocco[/name_u], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_u]Logan[/name_u] - I just don’t get it

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?

[name_f]Clodagh[/name_f] - an [name_u]Irish[/name_u] name with a similar sound to [name_f]Clover[/name_f] - I think it could get some more love.

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?

[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] - a bit like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_f]Thomasine[/name_f] - I like it

[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. It feels so stuffy, consonant-heavy, and lends itself to mean taunting nicknames: Fatticus. Sadicus. I just do not see the appeal. It’s only redeeming quality is the tie to To Kill a Mockingbird, which is a stellar book.
Additionally, any of those [name_u]Irish[/name_u] names that no one else in any other country knows how to pronounce. Like, if you want to name your kid Co-en. Then just name them [name_m]Coen[/name_m] or [name_u]Cohen[/name_u]! No need for Coemgen. And this is one of the more mild cases.

What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?
Oakley/Oaklee/Oaklie/However you spell it. This name went through a boom in my community 3-5 years ago, and I still don’t understand why. It has a very made up feel to it, and if it were just one baby I would understand but I think I know 6 of them.
Also [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. Sorry people.

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?
[name_u]Delta[/name_u]. I think this name is stunning. Simple. Classy. [name_m]Charming[/name_m]. It is rarely mentioned here though.

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?
[name_u]Skye[/name_u]. I have yet to meet someone with this name, but it is gorgeous!

I’m not a fan of the word ‘overated’ but I do struggle with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] due to all the baggage assosciated with the concept of evangelism.
What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. I just can’t get the assosciation with opium out if my head, and I have American friends who call their grandads [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]! Ok, she’s a classic, bit she’s truly not that common - at least in my country - any more, and I think she deserves a bit of love.

Tbh there are quite a few. The first that comes to mind is definitely [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], I have a hard time seeing past the fact that it’s an endearment term, and it seems almost kind of self-indulgent to me… sorry to anyone who likes it. And [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], I find it blah and just makes me think about wood. I could these appealing to a few people, but I don’t understand why they’re so universally loved on here. Also all those boys names starting with [name_f]El[/name_f]- or Em-, I can understand the appeal but I’m not a big fan.

What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?
[name_u]Aria[/name_u]! The first two thoughts I have are [name_m]Aryan[/name_m] and areola, which is not great, plus I just don’t like the sound. And I’ve said this multiple times before, but I’ve never liked [name_u]Noah[/name_u] or [name_u]Owen[/name_u] at all. I guess I just tend not to like names that are very vowel-heavy.

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?
Though they aren’t rare per se I wish that [name_u]Germaine[/name_u], [name_f]Laverne[/name_f], and [name_u]Floyd[/name_u] got more positive attention, I’m aware that bad associations exist and they’re all a little dated but I still feel like they’re talked about overly negatively. Other than that there are a few that are names of people I know irl that are very underappreciated, but I can’t mention them because I don’t want to jeopardize their privacy.

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?
Honestly I’d much prefer that my favorite names stay under the radar than potentially become a big trend, sorry this doesn’t really answer the question.

  1. eleanor, sorry! i like it but i don’t love it. i just don’t see the magic like most berries seem to. (also i read a few replies and i totally agree about evangeline, it just reminds me of evangelical christianity which is not the best association for a child imo)

  2. tbh i kind of get the appeal of most if not all popular names, but maybe liam? it’s just kind of basic and doesn’t have that sparkle. i also tend to prefer longer names so maybe that’s part of why.

  3. i have a whole list  here goes:
    [name_f]Adalet[/name_f], [name_f]Adelfia[/name_f], [name_f]Ainara[/name_f], [name_f]Alyona[/name_f], [name_f]Amabel[/name_f], [name_f]Anjali[/name_f], [name_f]Antonela[/name_f], [name_f]Araluen[/name_f], [name_f]Arcelia[/name_f], [name_f]Aysel[/name_f], [name_f]Casiphia[/name_f], [name_f]Elenoa[/name_f], [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f], [name_f]Florencia[/name_f], [name_f]Genoveva[/name_f], [name_f]Ismerie[/name_f], [name_f]Jumana[/name_f], [name_f]Lilaea[/name_f], [name_f]Lulani[/name_f], [name_f]Marcelia[/name_f], Martzela, [name_f]Rosaura[/name_f], [name_f]Roselore[/name_f], [name_f]Sereia[/name_f], [name_f]Theora[/name_f], [name_f]Zaltana[/name_f], [name_f]Ziazan[/name_f], [name_m]Adriel[/name_m], [name_m]Caswyn[/name_m], [name_m]Elior[/name_m], [name_f]Isamar[/name_f], [name_m]Lucio[/name_m], [name_f]Marsaili[/name_f], [name_f]Miray[/name_f] & [name_f]Miraya[/name_f], [name_f]Oriel[/name_f], [name_m]Remiel[/name_m], and [name_m]Zimri[/name_m]

i feel like all of these names are magical and gorgeous and pretty much all of them are easily pronounced as well, so there’s no excuses! people should use them more!!

  1. all the ones I mentioned above!

  1. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I’ve never liked the name and the fact that its also getting really popular irl baffles me. It has cute nicknames but thats the only redeeming factor to me.
  2. [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. I knew several my age and its still popular for new babies so it seems really overused and the sound isn’t very appealing for me, I think its maybe too soft like the end just kind of fades away as I try to say it?
  3. [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], [name_u]Beverly[/name_u], [name_f]Bethan[/name_f]. They aren’t completely unheard of but they seem like the kind of thing that would really appeal to the Berries so I’m a bit surprised they aren’t talked about more.
  4. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]. Both are names I absolutely adore but can’t personally use so I would love to see them more on other peoples’ kids.

What is one or more popular name(s) on Nameberry that you find overrated?
Eleanor and Evangeline. I simply don’t like Eleanor, because she doesn’t excite me or feel particularly interesting or magical to me. I prefer the alternatives Ella, Eleonora, Eleodora, Elodie, Elena, and Leonora. I don’t like the evangelical, religious ties to Evangeline, and find it a bit too close to ”evangelize” . I think Angeline and Angelina are much prettier and lighter feeling alternatives.

What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?
Brinley. I know two people who have recently named their daughters Brinley, and I just don’t like it or understand it at all.

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?
girls - Amarantha, Pomeline, Eartha, Marina, Calla, Wisteria, & Lucinda
boys - Starling, July, Auberon, Riven, Kelso, and Salem

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?
girls - Flora, Cleo, Gaia, Pandora, Daphne, Cordelia, Rhiannon, Phoebe, Calliope, Lorelei, & Matilda
boys - Ocean, River, Lyle, Sky / Skye, Elton, Milo, Phineas, Cassian, Flynn, & Indigo

(These are some of my favorites and I love that they’re rare, but would be so thrilled to meet someone who had one of these names!!)

What is one or more popular name(s) on Nameberry that you find overrated? there’s a few sounds i just irrationally do not like, and a couple names with these that are quite nameberry popular are beatrice, aurelia and nora.

What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of? henry  just not my cup of tea in a major way, and only getting more popular it seems!

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry? it’s not necessarily unseen per se but i wish people would pay more attention to bridie and not immediately dismiss her as a typo of birdie!

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more? i would love to meet a saskia!

  1. What is one or more popular name(s) on Nameberry that you find overrated?

[name_f]Answer[/name_f] for Girls: So, I’ve had issues with most popular names since I was a kid and I’ve never gotten why so many people like [name_f]Sofie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. There’s sooooooooooooo many of them and it’s just like…why? (Don’t come for me, you [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] lovers) it sounds like she’s a little sofa.

[name_f]Answer[/name_f] for Boys: this is more of a pattern but I don’t know what was with the trend a few years ago of two syllable B names for boys that had every ending under the sun: [name_m]Brayton[/name_m], [name_u]Brayden[/name_u], Brodyn, and what have you. They all have the same plodding stress pattern and it’s kinda monotonous. Oh and I don’t like [name_u]Dustin[/name_u] either because WHY name your kid after PARTICLES?

  1. What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?

G: Right now the most appropriate is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (#3 in the US last year) I’ve known at least 4 or 5 little Charlottes born in the last couple years and I just don’t get it. [name_f]Every[/name_f] nickname (Charlie, [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Char[/name_f], etc) annoys me as well so that doesn’t help.

B: Right now the most appropriate is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (#10 in the US last year). I’ve known several of those born as well and I guess it feels like I don’t want a grown man’s nickname someday to be “Teddy?” And there’s been so many throughout history.

  1. What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?

G: I think girls’ names with more stout sounds that haven’t been highly ranked before ought to get their time like [name_f]Nolwyn[/name_f], [name_f]Iscah[/name_f], [name_f]Desiree[/name_f], etc.

B: I’d like to see more thoughtful sounding names get their time like [name_m]Duncan[/name_m], [name_u]Raven[/name_u], [name_m]Bancroft[/name_m], etc.

  1. What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?

G: [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Osanna[/name_f], [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f], [name_u]Alcott[/name_u], [name_u]Nori[/name_u], [name_f]Rivka[/name_f],
B: [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], [name_u]Sascha[/name_u], [name_m]Theon[/name_m], [name_m]Aloysius[/name_m], [name_m]Ansel[/name_m], [name_m]Castiel[/name_m]

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband has, unfortunately, vetoed most of these names for our eventual/hopeful children. Alas…

Hopefully this helps!

  1. [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] feels childish. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is a pain to pronounce.
  2. [name_m]Jakub[/name_m] and [name_f]Oliwia[/name_f]. [name_m]Jakub[/name_m] is heavy and hulking. [name_f]Oliwia[/name_f] is so boring and… Oily.
  3. [name_m]Rembrandt[/name_m] and [name_f]Amalthea[/name_f]. Both have nicknames Nameberry loves (Remy and Thea) and I can see them catching on.
  4. [name_m]Romulus[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]. Both attractive, unusual, but recognisable classics that aren’t too different from popular names (like [name_m]Roman[/name_m] or Rose).
  1. [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]. I don’t like it’s sound at all, though I do like [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Junie[/name_f]. I also dislike [name_u]Blythe[/name_u], [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u]

  2. [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]. I don’t like this name for some unknown reason

  3. [name_f]Anthea[/name_f]. [name_u]An[/name_u] abandoned flowery name that has a lovely sound and meaning with [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as a potential nn, what’s not to like?
For a boy, I like traditional names that are not fashionable at the moment, like [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_m]Philip[/name_m].

  4. I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. I don’t hear much about her. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is such a lovely nn. I also love simpler girls names like [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f].

For boys it’s those well-used traditional names.

What is one or more popular name(s) on Nameberry that you find overrated?
— A lot of them :see_no_evil: they all just seem so overused, even if they’re not popular irl, it gets pretty boring when all theCAFs feel like its the same handful of names being regurgitated. I can objectively appreciate them and personally like most of them, but I don’t think they’re that great and I just wish the trends would change to something else now.
Some names for example: [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_u]Fable[/name_u], [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Bramble[/name_m], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Maple[/name_f], [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], [name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_u]Rain[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], ect…

What is one or more popular name(s) IRL in your city or country that you don’t get the appeal of?
— [name_u]Whitley[/name_u] / [name_f]Whitlee[/name_f]. I know several babies with this name and I just don’t get it, personally. Not to be harsh, but it sounds like someone talking through a mouthful of mush.

What is one or more unseen name(s) that you think deserves more spotlight on Nameberry?
— I’d love to see more of [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] for a boy and [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] just in general.

What is one or more rare or not so considered name(s) that you think should get seen IRL more?
— I would love to see more mythological names used irl, like [name_m]Osiris[/name_m], [name_m]Anubis[/name_m], [name_f]Hestia[/name_f], [name_f]Hecate[/name_f], [name_u]Mercury[/name_u], [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], Hephaestian, [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f], [name_f]Cybele[/name_f], [name_m]Hercules[/name_m], [name_f]Proserpina[/name_f], [name_m]Sindri[/name_m], and so many more. I’d also love to hear more word names being used, or creative compound word names like we see around here a ton, I just think they’re cool and would like to know actual people are getting to wear them.
