Hello! We are expecting baby girl next week. I have a daughter, [name_f]Ava[/name_f], from previous relationship and we also have a little boy together, [name_u]Fallon[/name_u] [name_u]Bryce[/name_u].
Torn between two names: [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. We like the sound of [name_f]Cora[/name_f]; however [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is after my grandfather who recently passed. He was a big part of my life and I feel obligated to dedicate the name after him. [name_f]Nell[/name_f] also sounds cool. The only thing is deciding on middle names to go with that—because everything we think of flows better with [name_f]Cora[/name_f].
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] —-grandma’s middle name
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] [name_f]Carina[/name_f] / [name_f]Carina[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
Sklyar [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
Which one sounds better? What have you done when torn with emotional ties to a name and one that sounds pretty?
Thanks!
I feel like with [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], [name_f]Cora[/name_f] goes better in my opinion. [name_f]Nell[/name_f] seems like a classic, while your other two children have more popular names. Have you thought of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]? It flows well, and you get the honor name part of it. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]’s wonderful as well!
(Also, you could use [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f]; it feels more complete next to [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_u]Fallon[/name_u])
I really love [name_f]Nell[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Nell[/name_f] [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] would be lovely. Otherwise I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
Of your list of combos you have [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is my favorite but [name_f]Nell[/name_f] seems much more meaningful to you. Have you thought about [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]? [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]?
Second the ideas of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] would be pretty.
I love the recommendation of [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]! its the best of both worlds. Between [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f] I think [name_f]Cora[/name_f] sounds better with [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_u]Fallon[/name_u]. I love the idea of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] - but all I hear is [name_m]Cornell[/name_m]. Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]! two great choices!
I love [name_f]Nell[/name_f]! So cute ! What about [name_f]Nell[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] ?
You could use [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] as a slight alternative. It might be easier to pair with your chosen middles. [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]. [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] [name_f]Carina[/name_f].
You could use [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. [name_f]Eleanore[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] , then you get all of the sounds you love
I really like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] it’s sweet and works with [name_f]Ava[/name_f] & [name_u]Fallon[/name_u] the flow is a little disjointed so maybe a second middle name something like
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Trinity[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
Using two middle names breaks up the slightly disjointed sound of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f], honours your Grandfather & still uses your favourite name [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I really love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] for you.
Without factoring in the namesake angle, I thought [name_f]Cora[/name_f] goes with your sibset the best. But, you’re naming an individual. Siblings don’t exist as a set past their youth (e.g., I don’t introduce myself as “[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] sibling of ____.”) As an adult, which is the majority of your life, how often do the names of your siblings come up? And whether your name ‘goes’ with theirs?
It seems you are wanting to go with [name_f]Nell[/name_f], but ot means scrapping some of the MNs that you guys have already kind of picked out. The FN is the name that matters. How often does your MN come up in your life? We didn’t give our kids MNs. The spot only really makes sense for an honorific if it isn’t in the top spot - ie the FN. If you’re honoring an influential and beloved relative with the FN, what purpose does a MN serve? [name_m]Just[/name_m] food for thought.
Smush name. [name_f]Janelle[/name_f] could honor both gma and gpa, [name_u]Jean[/name_u] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is the intuitive NN.
Move [name_f]Cora[/name_f] to the MN spot, but lengthen it for flow: [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Coralyn[/name_f], [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], etc. Not knowinf your LN… Maybe [name_f]Nell[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]?
I think you have two strong pulls for using [name_f]Nell[/name_f], family ties and it sounds cool. [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], and [name_f]Nell[/name_f] all sound cool.
Absolutely love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] with [name_f]Ava[/name_f] & [name_u]Fallon[/name_u] However I agree with others that [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] would be a sweet and gorgeous combo.
If not,
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] [name_f]Carina[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f] get my vote!
