I tried asking for help on babynamegenie and people were rude.
I’m trying to cap off the end of my list. I have 26 names for girls that we like. I want to eliminate one. I will post the full list below but I’m also going to point out which ones we are considering tossing out and why.
[name_u]Roux[/name_u] (Like [name_u]Rue[/name_u] but I prefer the [name_u]Roux[/name_u] spelling. I’ve gotten a lot of backlash because it’s “fat mixed with flour”
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (It’s pretty but I’m not sure we love it)
[name_f]Olivet[/name_f] (Named after my hometown but [name_f]Olive[/name_f] was a name my husband came up with his ex. Is that bad?)
[name_f]Jubilee[/name_f] (We like different names. We are huge nerds. And this comes from X-Men)
Full list (In order of what we like most to least, gets a bit murky towards the end)
We also just removed [name_f]Prue[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], and [name_u]Kendall[/name_u] from the list.
Out of the names you listed for the cut, I would remove [name_u]Roux[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Rue[/name_u], but the [name_u]Roux[/name_u] spelling might not go over well if you live in an area where [name_m]French[/name_m] isn’t common.
As for the whole list, I would eliminate Matinée. Sorry to be rude, but it reminds me of the movie theater, and it sounds silly as a name.
I love [name_f]Olivette[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]! ”
In your list I also like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Harlow[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_u]Story[/name_u], [name_u]Blake[/name_u]. [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] are nice!
[name_u]Roux[/name_u] is a masculine [name_m]French[/name_m] word. If you live in an area where people are not familiar with [name_m]French[/name_m], they will probably not know how to pronounce it. If you live in an area where [name_m]French[/name_m] is common, they will probably know that [name_u]Roux[/name_u] is a common masculine word. I will not recommand this spelling for a girl. However, I love Rousse, the feminine form of [name_u]Roux[/name_u].
As I am [name_m]French[/name_m], Matinée is not a name, and doesn’t sound like it could be a name for me Sorry.
Again, Matinee is not up for debate. And masculine and feminine do not matter to me. I respect other cultures but gender is different than sex and I don’t see what is wrong with giving my daughter a “masculine” name.
I think you should go ahead and toss all the ones that you mentioned. [name_u]Truly[/name_u], there is no need to keep any names you aren’t in love with.
My favorites from your remaining names are: [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] (I think this is your best), [name_f]Finleigh[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]), [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], and [name_u]Sinclaire[/name_u].
I think mixing the harder and softer names might be fun, for example: [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_u]Blake[/name_u] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], etc.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is also a lovely mix of feminine and masculine with the nickname [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
To bad that [name_u]James[/name_u] is out, I love it as a girl’s name.
My personal faves from your list are:
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]
[name_u]Roux[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_u]Story[/name_u]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
I didn’t want you to be upset, sorry. As you put the whole list, I thought I could give my opinion on the names.
Well actually it is not how it works because Roux is not a name but a word. In French we have a gender for everything and it is related to the sex, in our language. I know it’s kinda different in English but Roux is a French word.
Names are also old words, they are generally associated to a sex and not to a gender (historically, etymologically, etc). I know it is different for Roux because it’s not popular and it doesn’t really have a designated sex as a name, but as I said, for me it’s a masculine word and then I find it “silly” on a girl. But if you like it, go for it.
I’m just giving my opinion because you quoted my answer I hear your opinion.
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_u]Story[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] (although I would only consider this for a middle name)
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
Keep (** my personal favorites)
[name_f]Prue[/name_f] ** (I’d put this back on the list, it’s adorable)
[name_u]Piper[/name_u] **
[name_u]Story[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] **
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_u]London[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] **
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f]
[name_u]Blake[/name_u]
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]/[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] **
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_f]Jubilee[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] **
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Kiernan[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Olivet[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
I would Toss
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] (I dislike this for either gender)
[name_u]Roux[/name_u]
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]
Matinee
[name_f]Finleigh[/name_f]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
I mean this very kindly and respectfully - if Matinee isn’t up for debate/input perhaps it’s best not to list it here. If you list names here it seems as though you’re asking for input on them, and sometimes comments may be critical, but kindly meant.
Out of your list, my favourites are [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_u]Blair[/name_u], and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
