I’m due with my final daughter in [name_u]December[/name_u], but it’s looking more and more like it might be the last week of [name_u]November[/name_u]. In any case, I do have some time, just not oodles of it.
I love romantic and frilly names… the super girly… [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f]
I love “old lady” name. … like my daughters’ names, [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
I * love* some of the “cute” semi-trendy names… like [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], and [name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
I thought about a name like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], utilizing [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] as a cute, fun nickname on something slightly vintage and definitely more substantial. [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is out because [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is my niece’s name, though the idea of a name like that with a nickname like [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is certainly an option. I think I just want something “fresh”. I love that my son’s name, [name_u]Ari[/name_u], is an old name, but literally you never hear it. It’s not in the trendy resurgence of old names like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is (though I love her name, too!) I want something fresh and fun… definitely something different, but not insane (and definitely NOT a creative spelling).
Ideas? Thoughts? Questions regarding my ability to articulate my thoughts into actual written word?
I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is a great compromise of your taste and fits well with your other children’s names.I think you have done a wonderful job with your daughters names balancing between old revival but not too trendy and feminine but not too frilly, I would go with another name that fits into that balance.
What are the nicknames for your daughter’s if they go by any? I stuck with popular, somewhat trendy but still overall classic and simple names for my kids. I adore [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], and [name_f]Harlow[/name_f], then [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f], and last [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]. [name_u]Val[/name_u] and [name_f]Tina[/name_f] can be nicknames for [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] which is nice.
What about [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] or [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Hallie[/name_f]? I would avoid [name_f]Harlow[/name_f] as I hear it on little babies everywhere now. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] seems like a great choice and I love the nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. Other options might be a name with an r in it - then all your kids would have one!
Maybe:
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] nn Roo or [name_f]Rosy[/name_f]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f] nn [name_f]Flower[/name_f] would be sweet!
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tibby[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] nn [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]
[name_u]November[/name_u] nn [name_u]Ember[/name_u] or [name_f]Nova[/name_f] - this seems lovely! In fact [name_u]Ember[/name_u] might be a sweet middle name whichever month she’s born in!
[name_f]Mairead[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
My girls actually don’t go by any nicknames. We jokingly call [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] “Dirty [name_f]Delia[/name_f]” for her mad hip hop skills at the dance studio, but that’s the extent. Occasionally a playmate may call her [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but I’d say 90% of the time, it’s [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] was once on my list (as was [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], which I feel is slightly similar in feel) but I thought they sounded too close to [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f]. Opinions?
[name_m]How[/name_m] does one pronounce [name_f]Mairead[/name_f]? I see it on Nameberry occasionally and I couldn’t figure it out.
Why can’t you use Whilhemina with a nickname of [name_f]Mina[/name_f]? That would go great with [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and [name_u]Ari[/name_u]! I also really like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] defiantly works she has the right balance between classic and cute. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]’ fits right in with [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] & [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. I absolutely love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
Here are some names I think fall into that classic/vintage theme you like that are also not very popular. I hope one of them works for you!
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]: [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], Dela, [name_f]Laidey[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]: [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]: [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_u]Tris[/name_u]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f] / [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]: [name_f]Cammie[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]: [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emme[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]: [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Angel[/name_u], [name_f]Vangie[/name_f], [name_u]Angie[/name_u], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]: [name_f]Genie[/name_f], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]: [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is very, very trendy so it’s odd that you’d like it since you think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is trendy.
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is the best, with the nn [name_u]Willie[/name_u] or [name_f]Mina[/name_f] or [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. Or you could go with [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], nn [name_u]Philly[/name_u] (filly) or [name_f]Mena[/name_f]
I think I’d go with a classic with a cute mn.
[name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] are such great classic names that it would be a shame to not find another like it.
First Name Suggestions:
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucretia[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Helena[/name_f] is insanely beautiful with [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. It hits the sweet spot between old-lady and romantic. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], and I think that [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Harlow[/name_f] sounds magnificent!
[name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
What about [name_f]Paulina[/name_f]? Then you have [name_f]Polly[/name_f] as an option. [name_f]Paulina[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is good sounding name.
[name_f]Paulina[/name_f], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
I also like [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] with [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], although I’d probably spell it [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f]. [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is a good nickname.
[name_f]Phillipa[/name_f], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
I know that it seems you like longer names, but one name that might fit into all your criteria is [name_f]Faye[/name_f].
[name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the sound of [name_f]Dinah[/name_f]?
[name_f]Dinah[/name_f], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
Sometimes I suggest [name_u]Hillary[/name_u]/[name_u]Hilary[/name_u] to people who like [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and [name_f]Harlow[/name_f], but aren’t sure about the unisex vibe. [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] was formerly unisex, but is now strictly feminine.
[name_u]Hillary[/name_u], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
^^[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Dinah[/name_f] with your kids. I have a friend that recently named her kiddo [name_f]Pauline[/name_f] with a P middle name and baby’s nickname is [name_f]Pippi[/name_f]. I think you could get away with [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] there too, if either nn appeals to you.
ETA: I’m curious - how do people respond to your son’s name? I think we’ve landed on [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u] for this baby if it’s a boy. I’ve only met one [name_u]Ari[/name_u] in real life, and it really suited him (cool-guy counselor/music leader at a summer camp I attended in middle school). Otherwise, Entourage is the only other reference I have
[name_f]Mairead[/name_f] is pronounced Ma-RAID, to rhyme with parade or lemonade. It’s Irish. My daughter has a friend named this (with a sister named [name_f]Ailish[/name_f]!) and it’s just a stunningly pretty yet strong name in real life, imo. Seems like it might go with [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] very well:)
