My husband and I are expecting our first in early [name_f]May[/name_f] (a boy), and are not broadly sharing our name selection with family/friends. I would love to get some unbiased opinions on which of our final two you prefer. [name_u]James[/name_u] is my husband’s name and will be the middle name either way. Our last name starts with an H and is three syllables. Appreciate any help!
I love [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] equally. They both have a charm and softness which is very appealing. I’m not sure that either stands out as working better with [name_u]James[/name_u] over the other to be honest so I would have to say go with the one that you love the most! But if I was forced to pick one I think it would be [name_m]Edward[/name_m].
They are both handsome, strong combos. I personally feel neutral about [name_m]Edward[/name_m], adore [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. I have only known/met/heard of one [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. I am surprised it is not more popular.
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] is a tad bit stuffy and [name_m]Ed[/name_m] sounds a tad bit old to me, but I do love [name_m]Ward[/name_m] and [name_m]Ned[/name_m] passionately, so that would be OK. [name_m]Just[/name_m] plain [name_m]Edward[/name_m] I find a little boring.
[name_u]Owen[/name_u] I am biased about since we named our unborn son [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. I still love the name, but it’s being used so much…
They are both good - just pick what you love most!

As someone who is an avid nicknamer I would choose [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], however I think that you can’t go wrong with either choice. I often think that if you have it narrowed down to 2 choices then it’s often worth waiting until little one is born and you can see which suits him best.
Both combos spund good, so that’s why it’s a difficult decision. I find [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] a little bit classier and timeless, however; and I also think it flows a tad better. Congratulations!

I really like them both; I don’t think you can go wrong either way. Maybe just keep them both on the table and see which one jumps at you when he is born.
I like both [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u], so I think it would come down to last name for me. My maiden name was [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], so I when I hear “3-syllables, starts with H”, I jump to that. And for that, [name_m]Edward[/name_m] sounds nicer to me. But my grandparent’s had the surname [name_m]Henderson[/name_m], and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] sounds better with that. I also support seeing which name fits better at birth!
I’m leaning for Edwatd as I love [name_m]Ned[/name_m]. He probably won’t get [name_m]Edward[/name_m] much so you should consider which nicknames you prefer. [name_u]Owen[/name_u] will most likely just get [name_u]Owen[/name_u].
I vote for [name_u]Owen[/name_u]! It’s more unique, but not far fetched. Personally, I feel [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is overused, but both sound lovely with [name_u]James[/name_u] and have a classy feel. I’m sure you’ll pick the right one for your sweet baby! x
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] hands down winner for me. [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is a wonderful classic choice, and has lots of great nickname options - [name_m]Ned[/name_m], Ted, [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], [name_m]Ed[/name_m], [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] - as well as being usable as the full name. I just can’t warm to [name_u]Owen[/name_u], which feels kind of wishywashy to me.
